My trainings taken a hammering over the last 2 weeks. First week I got a bad cold and had zero energy. The second week I was away with no gym access.

So today was going to be the first day back and…. I come down with D&V💩💩💩

Yesterday, 40 km road ride with my wife, she’s very strong, some hills and a decent avg of 31kph, then a cold sea swim, then a nice back session at the gym, four plates on the chest support row and weighted pull ups on the rings.

Today, first full gas effort on the road for a while, hilly hour with an average of 34.3kph, legs felt great, then a super cold swim, big range of hr today, 34 coming out of a cold swim and peaking at 180 on the bike, still walking around 17km a day with my recorded elevation for the year around 8000m, my goal is 30000 by year’s end, an upcoming trip to the Alps should help that along
Do you not spend all day eating? You must be burning over 4000cals a day at least doing all that.
No, I don’t have breakfast, just a coffee, first meal is around 12.30 that’s something simple like a tin of mackerel with toast and half a dozen eggs a banana and coffee, late afternoon will be cream of rice with blueberries then evening meal will be lots of anything that I fancy, have come down from 220lb to 170lb single digit body fat over the last couple of years.

Lower body today
Squat 100kg 4 x 5-8
Standing calf raise 80kg 4 x 10-15
Hack squat 80kg 3 x 8-12
Lying hamstring curls 55kg 4 x 8-12
Leg extensions 66kg 3 x 10-15 and then a drop set

Safe to say I can barely walk after this

Wow I should try that. Pretty much a fast every day.

Best mid week gym sesh in a long time last night, felt crazy strong, incline 105kg, then weighted pull ups off the rings 20kg plate, then finished off with a set of BB curls 120lb and four 30 second L sit holds, swim was done earlier, step count still hovering around 19000 a day.

Can't really compete with that sadly, having just ventured back into the gym after 8 weeks off following shoulder surgery (actually more like 3 months as the dislocation prior meant I couldn't do much)....

Managed to progress from 1kg lateral raises last week up to 3kg this week frown. Feels like i'm lifting 15kg, which is what i'm doing on the other shoulder. I guess the positive is I haven't lost any strength on the 'good' side, even after a few months of not doing much.

I do look fking odd though, a completely flat shoulder on one side and then there's the embarassment of lifting the small coloured weights in the middle of a gym....

This is a very bad idea. Try to lift the same (light) weight for both shoulders and build up gradually, over months. Everyone gets injured, the wiser athlete recovers quicker.

I'd be happy with an incline like that nowadays, I can put 100kg up but it's a far cry from the days of 180 on the incline and 225 on the flat!!

Those are impressive numbers, I rarely do flat bench, I find inline gives me everything I need plus I feel more comfortable with the movement, pretty certain there is a 120 in me.

I can't do incline at all anymore, either with 'bells or the bar. Inflames my shoulder for weeks. How the heck anyone can press 180 incline is beyond me.

I was pretty strong for many years, and pressing was my thing. Different days, different life. I got my flat bench up to 140 from 90kg over the summer holidays, so 6 weeks but then became really inconsistent again so it's back down again. I jist use the gym for fun now, messing about, whereas when I was strong, every day was a challenge. I'd rather lose weight these days but believe strength training of some sort is essential to retaining health as we age, so I'll always train with weights. Easter holidays from tomorrow so wll get a decent run at the gym again from Tuesday...Will be nursing a hangover till then, put on Saturday and it plays merry hell with me!!

I managed to run for thirty minutes today, the longest I've managed since tearing my calf weeks ago.

Today, 60km on the bike, then usual chest workout, chopped incline for flat DB press, felt strong but a bit shonky on the movement, been ages since I last did them, got up to the 100s for 5 so not too shabby, then seated press with full stack for 2 sets, finished off with 3 fairly quick back 2 back lifts of the 80kg sand bag onto the box stack which I was super pleased with, nice cold swim in the bay to cool off.

2nd session with the PT today, definitely an upperbody day today. Shoulder press with increasing weight, found out my left arm is weaker than the other. Moved onto bench press again with increasing weight and reps from last week, then squats with weights, straight leg dead lifts and finished with a HIIT style session, battle ropes, farmer walks, weighted ball throw down and over the shoulder ball lift. Arms are DEAD.

Yesterday, 45km on the bike, then a huge back session at the gym, was fkin wasted, gonna include 6hrs of prep work on a wildflower meadow that I'm creating, utterly backbreaking, step count was over 30000 for the day.

Today, quick race on Zwift, 25th from about a 1000 starters, then a fab swim in the bay, it actually looked inviting for once!

From me this morning in the rain -

Trap bar deadlifts 100kg X 26
Kettlebell clean and press 32kg X 13 each side
Ring pull ups X 24
Burpess X 20
Kettlebell swings 32kg X 120

27:10

Done as a circuit. Pull ups were hard as the rings were wet thanks to the great British Bank Holiday weather.

3rd session with my PT today at 11am today, gym was packed. It's BH Monday and pissing it down, why are you all here?! Done purely upper body, proper deadlifts using that big bar with the handholds as well as bench press, shoulder press and a couple other things. Need to work on my left shoulder still, it's weak as hell compared to my right, right arm was getting through shoulder press easily, left turned to jelly after a couple reps.

Holidaying in the Alps so everyday is morning ride generally about an hour and a bit with around a 1000m of climbing, then a trail walk in the afternoon with about 250m of climbing with lots of eating, just about the perfect health perception, one huge effort on the bike put me 180th out of 65000 people on a local climb, pleased.
