Its a funny thing.

Getting back on the exercise horse last couple of nights, and I caught sight of the gut in the mirror, in the really full bore side on view. It is so very easy to think 'oh whats the point?' at that moment in time. The trouble is that then gets you thinking about just how you got like that in the first place - and you go down all sorts of dark roads to do with self esteem and what not.

Anyway.

down to 14 st 3 this morning, so I was presumably just retaining something easy to shift.

I believe that in the first few days of dieting/cutting down/attempting to lose weight etc, you quickly lose a lot of retained water, I'm 0.5 kg lighter than yesterday, plus I weighed myself after breakfast and a coffee, as opposed to "dry" (straight out of bed, after a poo but before breakfast).

I'm in! 85kg this morning weighed at the gym after a circuits class. I'm 188cm so I'm not overweight by any stretch, but I seem to carry a lot of it around my middle which as we all know is not a good sign...

My target is only 2kg, and to 'redistribute' it a bit. I've entered the Spring Wolf Run at the end of April and I'm thinking about entering a local sprint tri at the start of April, so that should keep the motivation up. I finished couch 2 5k in November so I've downloaded the fastest 5k follow on podcast, which should also help with my Parkrun times. It seems like a lot of things to change, but I know it is just a routine change and as I slipped into a quite unhealthy routine easily it 'should' be easy to slip into a healthy eating and exercising routine.

I'm on the wagon as November / December was quite booze heavy, but I don't have a time frame for that, just as long as possible. Diet is starting to get back to something resembling healthy. Breakfast in December was mostly a Ginsters pasty, share bag of crisps and a can of Monster! Not everyday, but often enough for me to feel like sh*t about it.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm in! Well I've been secretly in since May last year.

After a very serious illness a couple of years ago and continued medication (steroids) and general over eating (partly due to steroids and partly due to lack of self control) and a lack of exercise I put on a fair bit of weight. May last year on a nice hot day I went to put on some shorts and found that only a couple of pairs fitted the rest were simply too tight as were many of my other clothes. That day it really hit home that it was time to do something about it. I wanted to fit in those clothes again, I wanted to be healthier, I had to lose weight and that meant a lifestyle change.

May 2017 weighing in a just over 84KG (I'm 172 cm so it wasn't great...).

Since then I have completely stopped eating between meals, no more biscuits, no chocolate etc. Significantly reduced what I eat and generally have low carbs which has meant cutting out all potatoes, rice pasta etc. I have a normal breakfast (special K cos I like it and a slice of toast) but lunch is generally salad based most of the week except the weekends when I will switch to sandwiches. Dinner is chicken based with stir fry veg or the like...

Food was one half of the challenge, getting off my bum was the other. Actually, I've quite enjoyed that side and exercise around 5 times a week, varying from walking around 6 miles, running 4 miles or following youtube videos if the weather isn't so great along with some squash and cycling. The key for me is just to keep going, exercise regularly and not be lazy.

So almost 8 months on how has it gone... Well I am now weighing in at 65.8KG so just over 18KG lost which is great and I think about another 3-4 to go. It has been a much much slower road than I expected. Typically in the first four weeks a fair bit of weight dropped off, but there have been a number of plateaus where I are very carefully, exercised harder and nothing changed and this could go on for 2-3 weeks which is really disheartening. The thing is you just need to sit back and look at the bigger picture, or helpfully plot your weight on a graph as over a few months that is quite satisfying.

Has it been worth it? Absolutely, I do genuinely feel much better for it, I am much fitter and simply don't need as much food or crave food as much, although I still have my evening moments when I want to eat something, more out of habit than hunger. At those more difficult times I try to side track myself with a diet coke, highlights chocolate or something or go and do something that completely takes my mind of it. It's certainly not a walk in the park, but being able to fit in all of my clothes again is a wonderful feeling.

If you want to lose weight YOU can. You need self control, you need to keep yourself motivated, setting yourself small goals will help with this (e.g. lose 2kg, walk 2 miles etc) and you need more self control :-) Good luck all and sorry for the long post!

15.7.2, was 15.9.7 on the 1st, 2 and a half pounds down but reckon like has been said, water and just not boozing, not really on it, everyone still at home, got a cold and loads of food still around, so next week will be when I really cut down, i.e. when back in a normal routine.

Porridge this morning, so introducing sensible stuff back in slowly rather than going cold turkey, will send the rest of the Christmas stuff back to Uni with the kids.

I'm in.

Currently 94kg (was 103kg Aug 17), conservative target for Q1 is 88kg though I'd like to see if I can get nearer 85kg.

Ashamed to admit that I weighed last night at 106.6kg @ 182cm

Target is 90kg by end of May

Will be assisted with a massive reduction in beer and more visits to the gym, diet is generally ok but will be monitored.

I'm in. The scales tipped past 104kg on new years day, the heaviest I've ever been (I'm 6').
Slightly better at 102.9kg this morning now that all the Xmas excesses have cleared out.

Getting down to 80kg would put me back into the healthy BMI band (I know that's mostly cobblers, but it gives an idea of what to aim for I guess) so that's the target.
So is 10kg a realistic target for the quarter?

Doing dry Jan to help kickstart things, and a combination of Slimming World (the wife is on it, so easy enough to eat what she does, and it appears to have worked for her so far) and keeping portions under control using MFP.
Have dusted the running shoes off as well after 12 months of relative inactivity.

Good luck everyone!

Had an absolute disaster just now, thought I’d try to be super healthy and have poached eggs for dinner but decided to mix it up a bit with avocado. WTF? How do people enjoy it?! Maybe it was under ripe or something but it tasted like the inside of a conker shell. Won’t be doing that again!

Filthy stuff.

Flavourless mush.

I don't eat for fuel (I await someone to tell me I am wrong) so 'superfoods' and the like can kiss my arse smile

I have to like it

I'm in. Precious little support from Mrs Neptune188 so looks like it's just me and this thread.

100.5kg, 181cm. Not in bad health but work in an office and don't have a gym anywhere convenient.

Target for Q1 90kg based on diet. Q2 into the mid 80's to be supplemented with a bit of exercise (IE Biking to work when it's got a bit warmer and lighter)

How do you do that, I've had a look on my MFP but can only find "Friends" and you have to have either FB, add from contacts, or e-mail address?

There may have been chips last night. I blame my son, who when asked, requested sausage and chips for tea while I was sole guardian. To be fair though, he always says sausage and chips, so I am simply deferring blame on my desire for fried potatoes.

A full 1,000 calories over my limit and I also failed to do any exercise due to the day running away, so a double whammy. That took what, four days? Nice going Smitters. I have had the unsweetened porridge of shame for breakfast as penance and will manage my exercise today, even if I have to do it in the pitch black.

Really depressing how a seeming small slip can cancel out literally days of hard work. Im crap at these types of slips - they kill my progress all the time.
