I can't understand why people get so worked up about this "issue" I really can't. Unless it's just the thought of having a piece of skin removed from one's penis that gets blokes all worked up.

There's far worse things done in the name of religion.
And I get more worked up about those!

Not in this country thankfully. Mainly because people stood up to behaviour that was once deemed moral (by religious standards) but thanks to enlightened movements of thought have been done away with.
Really? That's the worst thing done in this country in the name of religion?

At the end of the day it's a small piece of skin - not having it doesn't stop you doing anything. So like I said, I don't see why people get so worked up about it.
Leave the decision to the individual when they're an adult and no one will care. Do it to someone else without their consent and people will.

There are much worse things done in this country in the name of religion but they're already illegal. Which is sort of the point.

As mentioned above, it's a question of consent verses benefits. There are certain decisions that are made by parents, such as vaccination, that have an immediate and well characterised benefit to the child's well-being and it would be irresponsible not to make that decision on your child's behalf.

However there are other decisions that have no benefit to the child and may put your child in immediate and needless danger. We tend to have laws to protect children in these circumstances. In my opinion genital mutilation is one of the circumstances where children should be protected. Just put an age limit on it.

If either of my sons want to go in for a bit of penis remodeling when they are 16 or 18 then they're free to save up and get it done. I doubt they will because no (or at least very very few) adult men in their right mind would want penis surgery for the sake of it, but we deem it as fine to inflict it on a child.

Put an age limit on it and let the individual decide, then nobody gets worked up..... except members of various religious/cultural groups who seemed obsessed with children's genitals!

Prepare to wince and be disgusted.

Orthodox religious people when carrying out this procedure usually use a finger nail and teeth to cut and remove the foreskin.

This is why I get so worked up about it. It's vile and disgusting and utterly pointless.

I'm not disagreeing btw, I agree it should be up to the individual, or to sort out a tight foreskin (or other medical reasons).

There are plenty of extremely not-okay things done in the name of religion, yes. Many of them are worse than this.

Without actually ranking them, I do count removing part of a baby's genitalia, where there is no physiological necessity for that to happen at that time in that individual child's life, as amongst those extremely not-okay things.

In UK law "the interests of the child are paramount". To me that means, doesn't matter if it's a local, cultural, ethnic, religious, traditional, whateverthehell norm: it cannot be in a child's best interest to have clinically unnecessary surgery.

Mine went missing when I was too young to know. My parents told me that it was 'the thing to do' at the time, mainly for hygiene reasons. That was in the late 60's. I've no problem with them having made the decision and as far as I can tell, it hasn't had a negative effect on me physically or mentally.
One thing for sure, I've never experienced any unpleasant odours down there or had any problem pissing straight. So many blokes seem to piss all over the floor instead of down the pan and I've assumed it's because they're incapable of pulling back their foreskins properly!
I'm not aware of any lack of sensitivity downstairs either and if it is less sensitive, then that gives me more playtime I guess. I'm happy with that.
I don't have a son, but if I did I would not have him circumcised. I do believe it should be his choice even though it wasn't mine. But I would just say that's a sign of the times.
As it happens, my best 3 mates at school had also had the chop. We used to call ourselves 'The Circy Gang'. laugh

Christ, there was me afraid of the needle when I had mine done.
