Interesting calculator on the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43697948

One thing I took away is that it's easy to judge yourself, or others, purely on weight alone. Obviously there's a big difference between a 5'6 guy and a 6'6 guy (or gal) and therefore weight is only one measure. The waist measurement they have is a more interesting one, albeit a bit black and white.

Having done some reading after a gym health assessment, the waist to hip ratio is a very interesting measure, as it's all relative. And mine's 1. So not a good thing. This re-affirms why I'm doing this, when people around me say I've lost enough weight. I may have a thinner face, but I'm still carrying plenty of midriff fat and that's a really unhealthy place to have it for a man.

Thats quite impressive Fred! I feel your pain, this time last year I was 93kg, by January I was 112.6kg!

Easily done.
yeah, i kind of took the brakes off for christmas and never put them back on - unfettered consumption of bad stuff with particular emphasis on alcohol. Summer beach holiday in august gives me something to aim at.

BMI has largely now been discredited.
Calories in vs calories out when you know your BMR is a better way to go, so long as you don't underestimate calorie consumption.
Waist to height ratio is also generally thought to be a better means of checking your weight than BMI.

Pleasantly surprising 1.2 kg loss this week. I say pleasantly as due to a lower back injury I've done zero exercise since Friday, went out drinking Saturday night (including a post session kebab) but otherwise ensured I stuck to my calorie requirements every day (approximately 1800).

I think it's close enough to say 10 kg lost. Edging ever closer to that 100 kg target.

I have posted in the Keto thread but that's one for people much more diligent then me so moving here.

Use of myfitnesspal for general understanding of how many calories are in foods and I have found portion control very important, trying to minimise carbs and sugar and stay to target on protein. Slightly dramatic 'seizing up' issues in the first two weeks but that seems to have sorted itself now, might have been all the eggs biggrin

Done very well on avoiding the cakes and biscuits, even chocolate over Easter, and have eaten out three times in four weeks where careful selection has kept me on a fairly even keel

Not very keen on gyms etc but I am managing an hour on a Saturday morning

05/04 17st 4
12/04 17st 1

Target was 16st by time I go on holiday in August which was 18 lbs in 18 weeks at week 2, but might exceed that now.

So I'm back in the saddle with things. Even though I know that it was just water going back on after I lost so much during the flu I found it difficult seeing the scales going the 'wrong' way. The trend is now back downward, albeit slowly.

08/4 - 157.1kg
15/4 - 159.1kg

That's good consistent weight loss right there. Well done.

I found cutting out the booze really helped. I reckon it's -300 to -400 calories I'm getting back every day.
That's the equivalent of a large sized bowl of breakfast cereal, plenty of semi-skimmed milk & a coffee with sugar.

I was 100kg at the start of the year, I’ve dropped to 90kg but can’t loose any more. According to that BBC website I need to be 85kg to be classed as ‘healthy’.

I feel the same. Was 110kg, now around 95kg and I've just stopped losing, no matter what I do. I know I'm a tall bloke (6ft 4) but I'd like to be around 85kg.

I think I need to sign up to this after the shock of weighing myself this morning....

102kg starting weight and would like to get down to 90kgs.
Managed to get myself down to 98 kgs.

Sorted the diet out pretty much and tracking cals on myfitnesspal. Also using fitbit to motivate me to keep moving - sedentary job. Getting to the gym 3 times a week and also taken up golf - gets more steps in..!! Would like to start the C25K but never been a 'runner' and a bit worried about it.

Main issue is the temptation to have a drink over the weekend. Had a bit of a relapse over the weekend and necked 2 bottles of wine on Saturday and a few beers after golf on sunday frown

Missed last week - was in a hotel with no scales. Pleased with this week though. Can't remember the last time I was this light...

Not sure where I'm at to be honest - marathon on Sunday, so I may still be dehydrated, or I may be holding a lot of water. I ate pretty well on the afternoon of the race, but descended into junk last night as the desire for calories hit hard. Back on the wagon today so hoping to head into the 71s and 70s in the next few weeks as I have another marathon coming and then an ultra. I can't add much strength but I could lose the weight of my backpack and consider carrying it a freebie...

I have to say that MFP helped get me back in the right frame of mind and realise I'm still doing ok:

I know I have a long way to go but seeing the steady progress and trend is a real boost.
