They really are. I am bored of having cotton wool in both ears now (it lessens the symptoms but makes my hearing worse, obviously). What are you having done?

I contacted my ENTs secretary on Thursday. She is going to speak to him on Tuesday when he is back. I am sure a top up will be all that is needed as it isn't as bad as it was.

No word from the ent yet. I'm going to call the hospital tomorrow to see if there are any cancellations that I might be able to use.

Sorry, I missed this when they put me on the naughty step hehe The next op is to fit a TORP, it's a titanium replacement for the bones in my ear. In theory it'll give me some hearing back in the ear...

As for ENT, you definitely have to make some noise. Unfortunately there's people like me who jump ahead in the queue, mine went from "it'll probably be a year's wait" to "Are you free on Monday?"

IMO the NHS is like Nanny McPhee, it's never there when you want it but when you *need* it you'll get fantastic treatment.

Hope you get it sorted soon beer

I'm on the list!

Yeah I can imagine. I should wear a hearing aid in my left ear but I just cant get on with it.

I've had a cold for a few weeks which has been bliss for my right ear, until this week when my eustachian tube decided that it no longer wanted to open anymore and has since basically filled my ear with fluid. I am now suffering hearing loss in my right ear as expected and it is very annoying. No pain though. I am also currently on holiday so cannot go to my GP until Monday. Joys.

No I haven't. Will that work on eustachian tubes? My nose isn't blocked so maybe?

It's all interlinked, it'll either help or it won't but it's quite pleasant anyway smile

I guess it cannot hurt to try.

Looks like that issue is gone now. I bought some Steroidal Nasal Spray from the Chemist (on advice of my GP) and today I can now hear better in my right ear. I have only used the spray 3 times so looks like a cheap win.

And now it's gone back to how it was it seems before my cold.

Hi just came across your post. I suffer from PET both ears for about 5 years now. Looking at the injections with Dr Bottrill. Sounds that that is what you have had now on more than one occasion.
How have you found it I see from some of your earlier posts that it has been a mixed bag. Has it improved any over time

At the moment I believe that there is a very long waiting list for the injections as the equipment used is damaged and they're having a difficult time replacing it, which isn't what I wanted to hear.

I find it tends to last up to 5 years, and then another top up is needed. I have recently had a grommet fitted to my right ear as it was full of glue after a cold. While I can now hear again, the PET has returned.

If it gives good relief for 5 years then it would appear to be worth it even if a topup is required after that. Horrible condition I have had all sorts of tests and no obvious reason why it happens. Started in left and about 1 year later the right started. Met Dr Bottrill about 3 years ago and he told me of the options although I see he now seems to offer other surgeries in addition to the injections.

It does suck. I've had it for 22 years and it was fine until 9 years ago. I'll be seeing Mr Bottrill soon so I will have to ask about the alternatives.
