I decided to treat myself to a cup of coffee this morning (can't remember the last time I did, hardly ever have hot drinks) but ever since I just can't keep away from the loo with the need to urinate every 1-2 hours.

I had same problems before (unrelated to coffee I think) and had tests done and everything came back fine and it gradually eased over a few weeks.

I know coffee has a diuretic effect but surely not to this extreme? And stomach ache?

How do people drink 5 plus cups a day???

Bloody hope its goes away soon, am keeping hydrated with water.

Never touching it again.

Jimbo.

It can quite easily upset yer’ guts and get things, uhh...flowing/moving. Quite a common thing even amongst regular coffee drinkers. If this was the first cup in a while, chances are you’d feel it even more. The jury is out on whether it’s the caffeine or something else within the coffee. Nowt to worry about. First cup of the morning hits me as described but after that I’m good.

Caffeine has an irritating effect on the bladder. Speaking as somebody with neurological damage to the bladder, a cup of coffee results in a really bad day with extreme urinal urgency for about 4 hours after. Sadly I have to avoid the stuff now.

As you have already mentioned, adequate hydration is critical.

What tests did you have done?

Had a blood test last year when I went through an extreme period (months!) of constant feeling needing to urinate. Tests came back clear and was told to do bladder training which worked after a few weeks.

Lasted all day yesterday - still not 100% right today but much better!

Surprised they haven't looked further to be honest.

I'd be screening for any sort of urinary infection, getting a prostate check etc. anything which can impact bladder.

Cut caffeine and alcohol completely if you haven't. Drink plenty of water.

Any lower back pain, sciatica etc? If so I'd be getting an MRI (privately if necessary) to rule out any sort of nerve compression.

It's a myth. You are most like hyper sensitive to caffeine or it is psychosomatic.
