Have you had a scan and/or eye test?
MRI scan end of August, just before migraines started happening. All clear.

Eye test a few weeks ago. All clear.

Another week and another migraine. Aura with a mild to moderate headache. Amitriptyline dose increased to 20mg now as per gp instructions.

No alcohol has passed my lips since last Friday. I am ruling out alcohol as my main trigger. I am thinking that they may be being caused, or at least not helped by my drinking zero sugar drinks. Aspartame is an enemy of people who suffer with migraines so i am going to give them a miss for next week or two.

I’ve been suffering a lot recently with migraines and all the associated issues. Took a couple of Tramadol earlier in the week for an unrelated issue and hey presto, no migraine. Im not sure if the effects of Tramadol is any better than having a migraine tbh.

Spent Saturday afternoon drinking beer and had a strong beer on Sunday night. No migraine afterwards.

I've been aspartame free since last Friday.

Aspartame is an interesting one - I would probably drink a lot more soft drinks whilst away snowboarding too... Might just avoid that entirely (or as much as possible) moving forward and see how I do.

I suffer migraine frequently for years since starting work when I was 17 used to drink a lot of soft drinks which I cut out too see if it helped and did indeed help however I do still get them. Ive done loads of things to try and see what the triggers are and what I can remove or reduce to help.
What I find is to do with my job technician Im Costa tly going from hot too cold several times throughout the day and if there is a huge temp swing which what happened last week Wednesday went from a toasty workshop to -2 outside and bang within a hour or so full on migraine.

So will try and mointer it over the winter too see if its actually that, that is causing it. The only thing I find that eases the pain is a dark, silent room everything else makes it worse or has no effect.

11 days migraine free, 11 days aspartame free. It could be a coincidence. I am on 20mg daily of amitriptyline, haven't increased the dose as I haven't had a migraine. If / when I do then I will increase to 30mg.

It is definitely worth dropping aspartame if you can.

I get migraines, maybe 5-6 times a year. I used to take tramadol when the first signs showed. I got no side effects with tramadol and could function normally after a 1/2 hour lie down in a dark room.
I recently had one. Symptoms were tunnel vision, was like looking down a bog roll tube, struggled to speak basic English (welsh was fine) and had this over bearing rush of a headache coming on. I went and lied down in a dark room and was ok 1-2 hours after but I felt groggy until mid morning the day after.
I get a lot less migraines since wearing glasses whilst driving and eating small amounts often.

I decided to reduce the dose back to 20mg. I have been migraine free since my last one on the 29th of December. Either it is a huge coincidence or removing aspartame from my diet is making the difference. I would quite like to see how I fare reducing the amitriptyline to 10mg and then back to not taking any at all.

Stress used to be a big trigger for me.
Me also.

Years ago I got one per week roughly whilst I was going through a tough time, although I wasn't eating properly either.

Not had one since, eight years ago now.
Me too, was getting them a couple of times a week, changed jobs in 2015 and never had another since.

First migraine of 2019. Currently stuck in London waiting for it all to settle down so that I can drive home. Suppose I should not grumble too much considering it is over 2 months since my last one. No idea what the trigger was. No aspartame, no tooth ache.

Does anyone here take magnesium as a preventative measure? When I had bad migraines 10+ years ago, the doctor recommended trying it. I've taken two tablets every morning ever since and even though I still get some cluster migraines for a week or two every other year, I'm too scared to give up the pills just in case they are working.

Triptans are more effective if you can persuade your doctor to prescribe the nasal spray or the epi-pen although this latter delivery system is generally reserved for cluster headache sufferers. Tablets are way too slow to work due to the way they have to reach your bloodstream and are therefore unfair on the patient

I also really recommend accessing this website; the people who run it are truly wonderful.

https://ouchuk.org/

There is a lot of information on it along with a very detailed section on various types of headache and how to access proper diagnosis for your condition.

My bugbear remains too many people are suffering cluster headaches which get palmed off as migraines by their doctor due to cost of treatment with the triptans and O2 therapy.

I take 375mg of magnesium a day. Should I be taking more?

I don't usually get a very bad headache when I get a migraine. It's usually either silent, or I have a headache each time I cough or swallow, but it isn't persistent. I do not think I suffer with cluster headaches. Tbh, if I were to get a migraine once every 2 months then I think I could live with that, considering I was getting them most weeks.

I used to really suffer as a child from around 7 years old, took the pink migraleave tablets but once the aura started, it was a full day out with the aura running for around an hour then a banging headache for rest of day.

Stopped in my 20’s then started again lin late 30’s but not nearly as bad. Get the aura then a slight washed out feeling, more annoying than anything and nothing as bad as some of you on here.

I was once at dinner when one started and not really able to duck out, so continued with the glass of wine I had thinking ‘sod it’.

The alcohol seemed to take it off straight away, the aura went in minutes and no further effects.

I can also get micro versions which are the start of the aura but they don’t develop.

The aura for me starts as a blind spot and I notice someone’s eyes for example seem to be missing. They then develop into a neon type diamond pattern that is really quite beautiful if it didn’t signify the coming blindness and slight nausea to follow.

Definitely agree with me broken sleep patterns and snow can trigger them. Can go months with nothing then get thee back to back over a week.

Not frequent enough to be able to map mine and not severe enough to stop the aura with drugs (does anything stop them??) but there is always a chance you may outgrow the severe ones as I did.
