Toothache, horrendous horrendous toothache
Discussion
I find it quite incredible that in this day and age, even when you are paying one of these muppets to treat toothache, that they just leave you in agony and tell you to wait for the AB's to kick in.
When I was in Vegas a couple of years back I had a tooth flare up and called a mobile dentist out to take a look and he loaded me up with antibiotics, painkillers, you name it, all on the proviso that I absolutely must not drink alcohol for at least 36 hours. 2 hours later I was back to normal, tooth pain completely gone and it didn't return until I was back in the UK and able to visit my own dentist.
So why can an American dentist prescribe something seemingly not available over here?

Cheers! I think the ABs are kicking in as I am definitely in less pain. I was feeling very nauseous earlier as well and I was convinced that I was going to be sick. Managed to have a nap after letting the pain hit me and then letting it subside. Not sure how it will be tonight / over night, but right now I am taking the improvement.

Try to sleep sitting up. Reduces the local blood pressure and your pain is caused by pressure from the infection.
That is what I tried last night which did not work. I was just in constant pain. Pain is kicking in again now that I have gone to bed. Might be another night on the sofa for me. Not sure if it's been suggested but maybe try ice cold water, I needed a root canal for a while and the pain was insane. Swillimh cold water round my mouth helped an incredible amount. It's something to do with cooling the build up of gas that settles the nerve pain. Hope you find something as tooth pain is horrendous.
Or whiskey, just drink through it to get to sleep.

if the ABs are cillin based, then the nauseous could mean you are sensitive to them.I have been on Clarithromycin for a week due to infected shoulder and it didnt touch it, been on Flucloxacillin for a week and its clearing up but by hell does it make me feel ill.

can I ask why they are telling you not to put clove oil on the area?
It does nothing more than dull the pain by numbing it... it does nothing more than numbs the area you touch with it.
There is nothing out there to suggest that you cant use it and was recommended to me by a dentist until I could get the root canal treatment I needed.
Don't get clove oil on your tongue, unless you want to feel what REAL pain feels like It does nothing more than dull the pain by numbing it... it does nothing more than numbs the area you touch with it.

The pain has come back today. Not as bad, but definitely worse than yesterday. Maybe the infection is fighting back.
I had exactly this, the AB's prescribed were working to a point, but then there was a resurgence in pain. Rather than risk another day of intolerable pain I went to an NHS emergency dentist who took one look at the AB's I had been prescribed and told me they weren't either strong enough or a large enough size (I forget which) and she dished out these big mofo's and 6 hours later I was back to normal.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
