The pain has almost gone now. Another course of antibiotics to finish off and then can get booked in for a root canal.

If an impacted wisdom tooth has resulted in decay in the tooth adjacent to it ,to a point where it requires root canal, I would seriously consider removal of that tooth. Frequently this will give room for the wisdom tooth to erupt into a functional postion. This saves having to dig out the wisdom tooth and a better option than trying to preserve the root filled tooth which can be life limited even with a crown.

The impacted tooth isn't the one that needs the root canal. The wisdom tooth grows along my gum into the back of the molar in my bottom jaw, there is no decay there. The tooth that needs the root canal is in my top jaw.

Ah..ok. I thought the tooth needing root treatment was the one next to the impacted wisdom. As you are acutely aware the pain does refer up and down. We sometimes have a real job convincing people the offending tooth is not the one they think.

Angrydog - you are about 2 weeks behind me - Having been on the antibiotics and having waited for an appointment, I finally had 3 teeth extracted on Thursday.

I know that you can think of nothing but the pain at this time, but you will soon forget all about it.

My experience,

Toothache - abcess - blood poisoning - hospital

Had to get the blood and abcess under control and come back for the tooth, when they tried to take it out it shattered, they then had to cut it out.

I can remember just being laid out on the living room floor in pain, if someone had told me they could have fixed it there and then for £20k I'd have paid up. On the other hand I think if I'd had a shotgun I would have killed myself.

Anyone with toothache has my sympathies.

Root canal. Completed it mate. Finished on Wednesday, still a little infection but it will go. Filling done with no injection to numb the area.
