I recently put on a stone and a half in 2 months after my Steroid medication was upped by a factor of ten. The meds were gradually reduced again but the weight naturally stayed on. I've done lots of Keto in the past but being a veggie it can be quite tricky so I decided to try proper fasting, did a 48 water only fast, then 3 days keto then a 72 hour water fast. Lost 10 pound in 8 days.
The 48 wasn't too bad but the 72 was tough. Worked as normal but as my work is very physical I didn't do any gym stuff or anything, mainly just laid about dreaming of food when I wasn't working.

Going to start another 72 tomorrow.

After the 72 I steamed some veggies and poached a couple of eggs to break my fast. I swear I could go to the most expensive restaurant in the world and nothing they could put in front of me would taste as good as that first slice of carrot!

I did 32k last year, down from 118 to 86, June to December, so 7 months, by counting calories and sticking to 1200 per day.

.
I started at 119 and am aiming for 85kg if I put on some muscle or 80kg if I don't.

I can't think of living on 1200 calories though

Currently down 11kg in 7 weeks. Another 24kg to go

Well done up to now - stick at it ! smile

The 1200 calorie limit was chosen because I'm very old and fairly inactive. Exercise is limited to gardening in the summer and rowing machine in the winter.

You’re so close to the 80s now Rob. Your efforts are paying dividends. Doesn’t seem like that long ago you were trying to get out of the 100s.
That was mid July, not too long ago!

I think, if I’m looking at the numbers right, it’s actually been easier the more weight I’ve lost, which is totally backwards.

Need to plot it on a graph really.

I'd like to join this thread as a little extra motivation! I've been monitoring my weight since I joined the gym at the end of August.

Since the end of August I've only dropped 1.6kg but I have lost 7cm off my chest, 6cm off my waist, 7cm off my hips, 3cm of each of my thighs and 2cm of the each arm.

However as I try to track this each week I can see how much it fluctuates depending on what I've eaten/how stressed I feel.

I feel significantly better but at 5ft 7, i'm still weighing in at 88.4kg. Unless boredom gets me, an hour on the bike sees me burn 800 calories (according to my fitness tracker) and I've been mixing cardio with some weights.

In the last week I've been to two different classes at the gym (both HIIT) which have nearly killed me, but although I don't tend to drink during the week, over the last two weekends I've had various events/parties where I've drunk more than I would have liked. Coupled with my eldest's birthday there has been a lot of chocolate/snacks in the house which I've not had much will power to resist.

So, my commitment to myself is for the next two weeks - No booze, no snacks, get to bed a little earlier and work a little bit harder at the gym. Why two weeks? We have a wedding to go to

Hey Rob, I posted a couple of weeks ago that this happens sometimes (when you have a bad week, but the scales say different!!) but there's no need to take the mickey a fortnight later......hehe . Just remember this when you have a great week but put on half a stone!!

I've lost another 0.7kg this week, making 17.4kg lost in 15 weeks. Definitely plateau-ing right now, that's only 2.8kg lost in five weeks now. But a mate of mine that runs a spin class has bought me a heart rate & fitness monitor to measure my exercise levels and also suggested that maybe shorter, sharper walks mixed in with my usual longer walks is the way to go to reboot my metabolism.

Generally over the last 3-4 months, I've done walks of 2-3 miles at a quite steady pace (37-40 minutes) but also done lots of 6-7 mile walks at a similar pace (2 hours). The idea now is to get my heart going a little quicker and also test myself a bit, so this morning I did a walk that I normally do in 40 minutes in less than 34 minutes. Felt good and I'll do this now five days a week, around lunchtime. I generally walk on a cycle path next to an unlit steam railway track so at night, it's awkward to walk. Doing the walks at lunchtime means I can work, then walk, then work again and it splits the day up nicely. At weekends then, I will continue the 7 mile walks, maybe try a little quicker pace and see if that reboots my body.

Overall though, I am happy with losing 17.4kg (2 stone 10 pounds) in 15 weeks.
Good progress Marty. Personally I found that exercise didn't make a jot of difference to my weight loss progress. A whole lot of effort and sweat for, well, nothing really, except being a bit fitter than I was when I started. For me the entirety of my 6 stone weight loss was purely from changing my diet and eating pattern, specifically : reducing to one meal per day in the evening - no breakfast, dinner or snacking - and making sure it was high in satiety, so meats/proteins/fats mainly, and not pay any attention to calorie numbers because my body would naturally tell me when I was full - none of this CICO bullst you hear the broscience crowd banging on about. Give or take some noise either side, I was losing on overage 1.6 kg per week / 1 stone per month.

Currently maintaining at 80kg (74kg got me too many comments about being looking gaunt) and my body seems happy here. I stick to mostly keto stuff through the week to keep me feeling full up and I can enjoy some ice-cream and a 1.5 L bottle of my favourite Saisnburys TTD fresh orange juice with bits (!) once a week and drop back down to 80kg by the following week. I've still not had a pizza this year! I used to have 2-3 family size pepperonis every week when I was 17+ stone eek .
Cheers LT, you've done really well. Guess it's different strokes for different folks... I'm going to see what the next three months bring me and then reassess.

Not sure if it's bad form to quote oneself but it seemed the easiest way to update, albeit with a bit of snipping.

I previously said:
Never ventured onto this section of the forum before, I've also never been noted for my healthy lifestyle. frown

This changed when I had my first heart attack in April (Good Friday).
I'm still going and feeling good, though taking things a lot easier than I was and delegating a lot more work to others.

I previously said:
I'm in my mid 60s and have smoked over 20 a day since my early teens, so over 40 years. This has now completely stopped, not even had a drag of one since.
Still proud to be adhering to this with no exceptions. Not been easy at times but a quick look at my hospital wristband helps to remind me why I'm doing it.

I previously said:
As for the exercise I started gently with a walk or two round the block which tired me. Eventually, and after a lot of perseverance, I graduated to all the way round the estate and ultimately beyond. I'm currently on around 10,000 steps/day, which is around 7.5Km.
This is a bit of a struggle at the moment. I still try to walk most early mornings, which is my preferred time, though I now tend to do 2 days together and then give myself a day off. The main reason for this is that I've now developed "Plantar Fasciitis" in my right heel which can be annoyingly sore at times. I've just acquired some decent insoles and a support for nights which will hopefully sort it out.

I previously said:
Since I started in earnest, probably mid May - early June, I've managed to lose 10.9Kg, bringing me down to 90.3.
At the start of this week I was on 83.7Kg which I'm relatively pleased with. My current target is 75 - 76Kg which will hopefully feel good whilst not making me look too drawn which I don't particularly want. I'm now starting to run out of clothes, to the benefit of loads of charities, but don't want to buy any more until I've reached my target and stabilised around there.

When I started loosing weight (30Kg) last year I had a 42" waist. I bought new jeans when I got to 38", and again at 36" and 34". So now I have three pairs of jeans. I wear the 38" (with braces) for gardening, 36" for washing the cars and pottering about, and keep the 34" for going out in. It makes me smile and feel good about myself when I put the gardening jeans on as it reminds me of just how fat I used to be - just sayin'.

All the 42" have been thrown away smile cos I'm never going back there !

I'm back!

Not sure if I should be posting as my weight hasn't really dropped that much more since my last update, however body fat % is down 10%ish and muscle % is up.

Down a belt hole as well. Work trousers are loser than before.

Strength is a lot better as well.

Happy how things are going smile. Enjoying the gym a lot more.

Eating wise im getting there. Weetabix for breakfast, chicken and rice for lunch and dinner (depends what mood im in) comes in at around 1,950 calories (im allowed 2,300 a day). But not too bothered by that at the moment.

Fitness test at work didn't go brilliantly though, passed but had a cold and really struggled to breath!

2.2 units of alcohol were consumed with Sunday lunch and the calories are included in the above calculation.

Tomorrow is weigh-day and I'll report in again via the progress table.

There it is, in the 89s!

Had a crap week for exercise too, after the park run last weekend, I went for a run on Monday and pulled a muscle in my right arse cheek so haven’t been able to run since, I’ve had to walk my route instead which is horrible because it takes far too long and doesn’t even work up a sweat.
