Are you not supposed to keep the muscles warm ?
Thats what the running does! I'll only switch to leggings if below zero and even then reluctantly.

I guess everyone's different, but even though I'm fine in shorts down to about -5, I have noticed more aches and pains and more tendency to get injured if I train with bare legs below about +4/5C. Last winter I reluctantly got my first pair of leggings and they've made a noticeable difference.

There was a guy at the Basingstoke Half a few weeks back who was literally wearing a bin bag (on top of his regular running clothes). The idea being that it would keep him warm until he was fully up to temp, then he could easily rip it off. Looked stupid.
That's fairly normal at big half marathons and marathons; it's advice often given out to runners. Unless you're an elite, waiting for your starting call can cool your muscles down and undo the good that your warm-up's done, putting you at risk of injury and slowing your run down. Bin bags are easily disposed of and keep the chill off, plus are waterproof.

He was the only one I saw and it wasn't that cold a day, but it does make sense.

Good point there on the gap between the warm up and the start - it's basically useless, albeit entertaining (I never get involved in them).

Great fun at lunch, dialled in some intervals on the treadmill. Only intended to do 10 rounds of a minute at 16km/h and then a minute at 6km/h. Stopped after the 6th round, something went in my left quad. Right in the freaking middle of the quad. Ouch. Taking it easy now for the rest of the day, just have to play it by ear for the park run pacing tomorrow. May have to be very, very slow.

Did my first parkrun this morning, 6 seconds slower than my previous 5k PB. I’m happy with that, considering I didn’t know the course and it was hillier than I expected despite being around a lake. Running with other people was good, gave me people to pace against!

Parkrun is addictive

Another PB today at Ganavan, doing times I only dreamed about a while ago. (28.02) It's quite hilly. tarmac, and there was a strong, cold wind blowing. Felt a bit brutal TBH, I was amazed at the time, beat my previous by 30 seconds. Would love to go back to my previous two Parkruns to see what I can do there now but they're 250 mile away.

Did a 6.5k run through the week must have made a difference to my stamina

Competed at the OCR worlds last saturday so was thinking of having some time off - but a local run to me had an XMen themed medal!!!! So went and ran a marathon yesterday. Feel cool today. Was off road so happy enough with a time just over 4 hours ish.

Quite nice to have got to a point where I can just go out and run 20/30 miles without needing to train for it as such. This time last year I had to prepare properly for a parkrun!

And still holding around 220lbs (big fear was all the running would rob some size, seems ok so far)
