I'm having a full TRT blood test done on Friday - While I'm not looking to cheat the test and score lower than I should....is there anything that I should avoid (or do) to not have it go the other way and show better than reality?

My diet is low carb (though not keto) and train in some form daily (although Saturday I have a 3 hr obstacle race so will up carbs Thur & Fri to normalish human levels!)

Or am I overthinking and just go get it tested?
Best to just carry on with your normal lifestyle to get a proper reading. Important to have blood taken 1st thing in the morning too as that is when T is at peak. Whenever you have blood tests, always try to get it done at the same time of day to get accurate comparisons. Also consider asking GP to request test for SHBG. It's not included in standard blood profile but is useful in calculating free T.

However, if you did want to artificially lower your testosterone, heavy boozing and sleep deprivation for a few days before the test might help!

So just to clarify...

When I do go for the doctor appointment for the prescription it 'Testogel' the one to request?
NHS would not give me testogel. Only one available was tostran. I think it may have been a supply issue. But probably money.

There was indeed an international supply issue with Testogel last year as the company stopped making it. Then they brought out their new version in a pump dispenser. Might have been tostran that I had during that time and not Testim, can't remember. Didn't like it whatever it was.

Getting the test via medichecks and it tests 43 markers - including SHBG. I draw the blood, send it to medichecks then email the dr the results. If they look low, I go in for a consult and discuss treatment options.

They take a lot of blood. Just had my own endocrinologist appointment this morning and they took the usual four vials. Only thing that was annoying was asking about Nebido every nine weeks and he just said well that will increase your estrogen levels. Trying to mention anti aromatisation drugs was like speaking and alien language. On the other hand, my last appointment I was 19st and now down to 18st 3lbs. He said that was about the normal weight loss for first 9 to 12 months on TRT that he sees. I’m 6ft 2 and carry it well. He thinks I maybe do metabolise Nebido faster and after these blood results will look at every 9 weeks. Also raised the question about sustanon. Been 8 weeks now since last injection and all the negative symptoms are coming back.

If you can afford to go private for the test and stay private forever for the treatment then you will obviously find that quicker and easier. If you go via GP/NHS though for the treatment, regardless of any private tests done, they will probably want to do their own tests and diagnosis unless you get a letter from a private Endo explaining a recommended treatment plan.

I had a private test done with pharmacy2u a few years ago and it came back so low that their Dr said they wouldn't offer me treatment (even though I would be paying for it) and recommended I saw my GP to diagnose the cause! Maybe different with medichecks if they offer a consultation service too.

I'm doing the test via medichecks - you draw your own blood (or get someone t o do it for you if you can't) and post it back to them. Those results I then send to the private clinic and (assuming the results are low) I go see them for a consult with the blood work for step 1 already done (saves having a consult and the blookd then showing there was no need)

Morning.

So my xrays have come back good.

My consultant has said they'd like to start me on a daily application of tostran gel at 60mg.

Anyone tried this or have any experience guys?

Want to go into this eyes wide open.

Thanks again. LT

Tostran was my first before Nebido injections. I felt tostran work within a week. Brain fog lifted, was not tired during day and sex drive started coming back. I started on six pumps per day then 8. I would get shower at 6am and then rub two pumps on stomach and two pumps to each inside forearm. You may get red agitated skin from it. Once applied I literally laid there till it was dry which can take up to 30 mins. Inside of thighs is also a spot I used.

I think I had tostran once when testogel supply dried up temporarily. I preferred testogel in terms of drying time but there probably isn't much difference, they both contain the same active ingredient.

Testogel, for example, delivers 1.25g of gel containing 20.25mg of testosterone per pump. The old testogel sachets used to deliver 50mg of testosterone per sachet and the usual starting dose was 1 a day. So I now do about 3 pumps a day to get about 50-60mg.

60mg of tostran would seem about right as a starting dose. Presumably that would be daily. Most gels are daily. I suspect you will start to feel some benefits within a few weeks but it can vary person to person.

I had to use Tostran last year when Testogel was unavailable. It's sticky and smelly, and takes ages to dry.

Got my blood work back - over 40 tests done but I think the relevant ones are:

Test: 13.4
Free Test: 0.201
SHBG 48.7

Will call the clinic that advised to get tested prior to a consult and see what they say.....I'm hoping they suggest a consult will be worth it?

13nmol is low and private would treat it. But some people naturally have low testosterone levels and feel fine. NHS would not treat 13nmol.

What private clinic are you going with? PM if you don't feel comfortable indicating on here - I won't divulge.

SHBG is on the high side. That may be part of your problem making you feel like crap. What little testosterone you have will be getting bound by all the SHBG making it unavailable for your body to use for the beneficial effects.

Some good info on SHBG here: http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2011/may2011_Do-You...
