Do I have a drinking problem?

Try and stop for a month. See what happens.
How much goes in the recycling on bin collection days.
Thats a good point, both the heavy drinkers that I know lie about their drink and dont put all of their empty cans in the bins, they take them to work and hide the evidence. They still deny they have a problem. How much goes in the recycling on bin collection days.
The strict answer is anyone who drinks alcohol has a drink problem (me included) as Alcohol is poisonous to us humans, has no positive effect at all and is a chemical drepessant. The saying "whats your poison?" is quite literally true in this context!
Its just the case that some people have more of a problem than others and our social norms/media etc.. brainwash us into thinking alcohol is okay.

I then opened a 500ml bottle of port and finished it, I knew I shouldn't but couldn't help myself.
OP, there's your answer. You couldn't help yourself! So yes, you have a drink problem. I have never once been in that position in my entire life, knowing I shouldn't drink something but was unable to help myself. stargazer30 said:

It's the dose that makes the poison, no evidence that small quantities of alcohol cause any issues. Its just the case that some people have more of a problem than others and our social norms/media etc.. brainwash us into thinking alcohol is okay.
With young kids, if you haven't established this already, it's best to have set nights when 1 of you is responsible for the child and the other one has a 'rest'. If you have a drink on your rest nights then I don't see a problem as no-one else is impacted.
When babies wake during the night its pretty pointless both parents taking it in turns as both end up with crap sleep.
Whilst I'm no parenting guru and this isn't a parenting thread, it could help to sustain your moderate boozing (which is effectively what it is) to get the parenting thing sorted first. It sounds like thats the main issue with your other half, not the actual drinking.

You're not an alcoholic, but you're well on the way. With a 3 month old I'm truly amazed that you are so irresponsible. Do you seriously not realise what is involved 24/7/365 ?? - do you leave your wife to do everything ?
You're either stupid, or simply immature. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

That's nowhere near a drink problem.
Three cans isn't a massive amount of alcohol on its own and it you're only doing it on weekend nights I don't see the problem.
Even people who consider themselves light drinkers will drink more than that.
There was a show with Adrian Chiles a while back. Just being social and having a few drinks here and there he found himself tucking away 100 units per week. He wasn't giving much throught to his consumption and was vastly underestimating it.

No way you’re an alchy, alcoholics want a drink all the time and hide their booze, you’re a binge drinker but as said you were a bit selfish last night.
You’re a very naughty boy and need to face the music and grovel like a good un. With a hangover.
Imagine how your Mrs sees it.
ETA actually you’re probably on your way to being an alcoholic but not quite there yet.

If you want to give your liver a kicking, you don't reach for the strawberry preserve. Whilst I like jam, I don't neck a jar of it every night.Zirconia said:
