Weighed in today. 116kg. Down 1kg from last week. If I'm honest the first few weeks I've not really got started but made more of an effort this last week.

I went to the docs and he took my blood pressure. Was very high. Kind of a wake up call for me. I've been overweight my whole adult life. 38 now. Problems are going to set in (if they already haven't) if I dont fix it. I have quite bad health anxiety too, that doesnt help!

NHS website says my ideal weight is around 13 stone. So got about 5 to lose! Going to be a challenge. Lost weight in the past I got down to 14.5 st but that was for a holiday and nothing i was doing was sustainable. This time I'm not denying myself anything. It wont work for me. Going to calorie count. So if I have something bad, I cant just eat what I normally do for the rest of the day.

Fruit and veg was the other one. Cant really remember when I had fruit last, which is shocking. Got bit of a journey ahead!

Could someone update the table for me. I'm on my phone. If not I'll do it when I'm next on pc.

Sorry the long post, just feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all!

Down 0.9kg (2lbs) this week which is great - 3.2kg this month and a large dump away from 31kg in total now gone.

Also I've discovered that I fking love hex bar deadlifts. I love Leg Day... biggrin

My belt required pulling in a notch this morning to prevent embarrassment on the school run.
A small but positive sign things are changing.

I found that when my weight seemed to stay static for a while. I've gone from a 52" waist to a 44" and am already now thinking I need 42". My size changed so rapidly that I've got three pairs of pretty much brand-new 46" jeans which are destined for the charity shop along with a coat which now looks like a 2-man tent on me...

Gym was heaving last night, it was grim. Couldn't work through my routine in the sequence I need to, loads of waiting around - I know we were all new once etc but I can't wait for it to level off again. Hopefully maybe only another few weeks and it'll be back to relative normality. FWIW I was never a 'NY,NM' joiner - I waited until March! biggrin

As a consolation prize I decided to try and smash my PB on the leg press....and I did - was even able to do 10 reps at 179kg which I was quite pleased with! Still need my shoulders to get on board and join the party, my gains there have been pretty crap.

Was 17 st at the start of the year, now back to 16.7.

Have been doing Dry January and once that had bedded in focused more on my diet, doing a fair bit at the gym, plus walking the dog daily.

Will keep the Dry January going, I dont think drinking and losing weight are really that compatible, going away for a few days for our anniversary soon so will just have what I want with a bit of damage limitation.

Plan is get to 14 ish and then maintain from there, was pretty slim at 14.7.

Just weighed in at 95.7kg which is 15st 00lb and about 12oz! One more day/dump to get into the 14 stones!

Down from 99.5kg though and I've definitely put a noticeable amount of muscle on as well, so I'm really happy with the results.

As above, being dry this month has helped enormously. I'm a bit nervous about tomorrow; I almost feel obliged to have a drink to celebrate being dry, but then that's very much the booze talking. I really don't think about it beyond the odd pang when I have a particular meal or watch a particular thing on TV. Much like stopping smoking, although seeing people light up that first 'dirty' cigarette in movies when they wake up with a hangover still gets me 20 years after I stopped!

Sorry I've digressed. Looking forward to continuing the training through February.

Funk, been lurking on the thread for a while.

I use the Polar H10 and cross-referenced with an Apple Watch. i think your elliptical numbers are over estimating, make sure your age and weight are in.

For a 40 year old, Over 30/60 minutes you are looking for around a 375/800 cal burn after the 4 week training mark i.e once you have puked up a few times.

Here is my H10 and Watch readouts to help you gauge where you are.

Thanks Carl, appreciated.

My elliptical is 30 mins of my session but conveniently the Fitbit breaks down the individual exercises which the BLE app doesn't - it just tracks heart rate and estimates overall calories burned. Weight, age and height are identical on both apps though. What's your current weight? If I'm heavier than you it would explain the additional calorie burn for me moving that extra around?

I'm now splitting cardio and weights, I was at the gym at 06:30 this morning (ugh). Here's this morning's elliptical session:

Here's the output from BLE HRM & H10 which includes the 5 mins rowing machine warmup and 7 mins cool-down on the bike:

Looking at Tuesday's session though, the Fitbit reckoned 999 cals on weights, 699 elliptical, 34 on the rower warming up and 68 on the bike cooling down - total 1800. BLE HRM reckoned 1983 so they're not a million miles apart. I reckon the Fitbit is under-reading slightly on the rowing though as I have to enter that manually (can't believe it's not listed as a pre-defined exercise like Weights, Elliptical etc are) and it's the thing that spikes my HR the most, up to around 170 but only for 5 mins warming up.

The other consideration is that the Fitbit is only measuring the exact actual activity (ie. not counting periods in between exercises for example) whereas BLE HRM is tracking from the moment I start to the moment I walk toward the exit so a 180-odd calorie variance is probably within spec.

In any event, it's the Fitbit which is getting logged, BLE HRM is ace for seeing real-time HR etc though.

Your 60 min burn level looks sensationally good, i am jealous.

I am 96kg.

i am coming down from 103kg back down to 89kg which is my long term weight level.

Sadly the more training you do the less effective it is, I am in my 7th year of cardio.

I have an intermittent trapped nerve in my back which means i need to go up and down weight wise depending on timing and lager consumption. I drink like a fish during summer which affects my weight if i get injured at the wrong time.

This is my third cycle going from 105kg back down to 89kg and each time cardio seems to be less effective.

Another two pounds off this week, means I've finally gone through the 4 stone loss milestone since starting on July 1st.

That equates to losing just under 26kg in 30 weeks, so a little bit behind target but as I've said before, if I can keep this rate of loss up for the whole twelve months, I'll be absolutely delighted. Eating a lot of crap this week but had some big step numbers; in fact, my target steps is 5k a day and I've done nearly 120k in the past eleven days.

Onwards and downwards.

I'm just over 141kg now so nearly 50% heavier than you, that would explain the calorie rate difference. I've dropped nearly 31kg and imagining doing everything I do now with 30kgs strapped to me just seems insane. I've only been going to the gym since last March and I'm sure that as the weight continues to come off I'll see the burn rate slow down.

I've just trimmed the table of those who've not updated in 4 weeks. If you're in that list because you've not updated the 'Last Update' let me know and I'll get you back up the top!

End Jan update.

11 days ago I was 17st 10lbs, today, I am 17st 11lbs, so 1 lb up. There has been little exercise. But on the scales at work, since last Friday I am 3lb down. Whatevs.

Overall since start of Jan I am 8lbs down, I’m happy with this. If I can consistently shift 2lb a week I’ll be happy.

I made the following changes to my diet, I intend them to be permanent changes. Stopped chinky take away, stopped all processed sugar rubbish, no cakes/biscuits/ice creams/flapjacks/puddings/sweets etc. Swapped dairy milk for oat milk, I have a lot of milk in the mornings rather than a cuppa, I reckon I have saved a 100 calories. At lunch I have a bowl of soup and salad, I have stopped having the crusty bread with salad and stopped heaping on a load of croutons. Salad I avoid the spuds and pasta ones, stick to white meat, fish, toms, cuc, leaves, sweetcorn, beetroot etc. No dressings.

Fruit snacks at work, usually 5 bits of fresh fruit a day. i have reduced to 2 fruit and 2 carrots.

Dinner is what it is, but reduced carbs, no more mash spuds Himalayas. Brown rice only. No naan if we have Curry.

I have taken hundreds of calories out of my daily diet.

Can a long time lurker join?

I'm the king of losing weight (and subsequently putting it all back on). As an adult my weight has fluctuated between 11st and 22st 4lbs. The 11st was a bit of an anomaly as I was working as a builder's labourer having been kicked out of University. I've leaned more to the higher figure over the last few years having gone self-employed and working from home. The lack of exercise associated with actually going to work and no longer needing the discipline of fitting in to the same suit each day meant that my weight crept up from around 15st in 2008 (ex hooker and well built means that I looked pretty fit at that weight) to the 22st+ by 2014. I have then lost and regained the same 4st for the last 5 years.

Last January I started at 20st 12lb and had got down to 18st by May when I unfortunately developed Plantar Fasciitis in both feet. This completely curtailed my exercise of choice (walking) and the weight has all gone back on (plus the obligatory additional lb).

So here I am, 52, fat with fked feet looking to try again. Hopefully doing it here will help with the willpower.

I weighted today and I'm 20st 13lb - 133kg. I'm 5'11" so BMI is 41 (morbidly obese). For st and giggles I'll also add that my chest measurement is 52.5" and I'm 51" around the largest part of my belly!

My aim is to get below 16st by my Silver Wedding Anniversary Party at the beginning of May (hopefully the same weight or better that I was at the Wedding) and then, ultimately, lose 104lbs by Christmas. Might as well aim high! smile

Can I be added to the list by someone more capable than me?
End of January update. I am down to 19st 1lb so that's a loss of 26lbs (11.8kgs) in 29 days. BMI now 37.3 so no longer morbidly obese, just obese now. smile

Chest has reduced 3" to 49.5" and belly down 4" to 47".

Very pleased with that. I must say that whilst this is all anonymous, and nobody would care either way, I do find the mere act of reporting back has kept me on the straight and narrow when I could easily have strayed.

February is going to be a bit harder as it's Six Nations time so I will be out drinking for the games when Wales play on a Saturday. I just need to control the munchies when I get home!
