If anybody wants some decent reading - James Smith "Not a Diet Book" is incredible. Well worth a read/listen.
What makes it so good jd?

I seem stuck at the 81-79kg mark, fluctuating between. Partly (ok, mostly) I suspect down to the focus on food slipping in the last week, but also a bit of illness and a few meals out that I'm determined to enjoy. I don't go out to eat often, so I'm buggered if I'm eating an egg white omelette with a side of water.

On the upside, I've made it through another training cycle and to rest week, so I'm looking forward to feeling less tired and less permanently hungry for hi-calorie snacks for a week.

As far as I can tell (zero science behind this), my fluctuations seem to be to do with water retention. A big meaty meal needs more fluid and longer to digest, so the body hangs on to water, therefore extra weight, a bit. Easier to digest stuff passes through more quickly, obvs, so the fluctuations are less.

For me, it's not so much about the actual number as the trend. As long as I'm dropping weight overall, I don't mind a bit of seesawing. It's just when it lasts for a couple of weeks it means a need to review and adjust.

Makes the whole fat loss/weight loss thing seem like less of a chore, its more of a lifestyle book than a weight loss book. Its really opened my eyes. Can't stop recommending it to people!!

Back up to 16st12 today (107kg) from 16st8 (106.6kg) which I dropped to last week with illness, which is disappointing. I had hoped it would remain off. Still, down 2.8kg since the start of the year. It doesn't sound very much for the effort I've been putting it but my mother commented yesterday that I'd lost weight, and it was noticeable. Whilst the scales might not be dropping as rapidly as I wish, the loss is noticeable it seems.

Cycled - 21 miles

I didn't seem to be losing weight on the scales although I was getting stronger at the gym and losing 'inches'. I weighed in at 92kg at the beginning of August, 90kg when I joined the gym in August (19th) and I was 87.7kg when I got on the scales this morning.

However, (and more importantly for me) i'm down 5" on my waist, 4" inches off my hips. Target is to drop down to a 29-30" waist (I was 38" when I started this - although I would wear 34-36" trousers with a belly hanging over the top.

The big changes for me this year have been:

  • The gym had a 30 day challenge group on FB during January which was really good for ideas/motivation
  • I did a couple of PT sessions
  • Had a couple of mates join the gym who want to train regularly
  • I've stopped drinking (At least until Mid Feb)
  • We've eaten a lot better post Christmas - Rice, chicken (or salmon) with broccoli, kale, peppers and fresh chilli has become a firm favourite. Snacks have been replaced with 50g of porridge oats mixed with three tablespoons of natural yoghurt and some fruit etc

An added benefit seems to be that my posture has improved a lot too, I seem to sit more upright too - bizarre

This is really one of the big wins for me. I'm also hoping that it will ease my plantar fasciitus by taking off some of the load.

At the start I needed to lose 30kgs, my 4 year old boy weighs 20kgs, so when I pick him up, thinking what a big lump he's become, I realise that I am already actually carrying around 1 1/2 of him already, ALL FREEKING DAY!

Am coming down, aiming for a pound a week until I go on holiday in Sept, 230 today, aiming for 200.

Have created a Spreadsheet (How very PH/IT...) of Weight vs target for that week and will track my progress, basically aim to be one pound less than last week Friday to Friday, spreadsheet has a graph and converts pounds to stones/pounds and Kilos.

I find if I dont bother with breakfast I am actually less hungry at lunchtime, or at least no hungrier than I would be.

I take the dog for a walk every day, about 30 mins.

Gym 3 or 4 times a week, one visit is a class, rest are weights and cardio.

I am aiming for around 2000 calories, if I skip breakfast that is very easy to do, even if I have a fairly big meal in the evening.

No booze whatsoever unless special occasion, not had any this year yet, have some zero alcohol beers, 56 cals each.

Avoiding restaurant and takeaway food.

Same here. Mine has graphs too smokin

Well worth tracking some measurements too (chest, waist, hips, thighs, arms) - I've seen a lot more progress in this area compared to the scales. Regular photos too.

Would you be willing to share? I'd be interested and at the moment I'm only really noting the waist measurement decreases.

If you have a desk job your hip flexors were probably tight, your chest would have been pulled forward and your core wouldn't have been properly engaged.

Thanks I’ll give it a go do you think the audio book will suffice or is a physical book better?

Yes. Joe Wicks, for all his spaniel hair, is very good. Just remember to warm up first.

I've uploaded it to my sharepoint so hopefully you can just download it from here if you want to use it.

Thanks for this, have ordered myself a copy too. I caught the end of an interview with him on TV last month and his approach sounded good.

I'm late to the party on this thread and the weightloss scores on the doors chart. Great idea.. I've been going a month tomorrow and I'm almost a stone down but finding it tough!
