I suffered with IBS for years and after a random conversation with a taxi driver, I now drink Kefir most days.

It has transformed my life. I started about 12 months ago and I had never heard of it and had to make my own. Now you can buy it in the supermarket ready made.

It is like a yoghourt drink. Try it, numerous people I have recommended to have also seen the benefits.

Out of interest, do you have arthritis?

Mine was entirely stress induced - the more I worried about it, the worse it got. Went on for probably 3 years before I changed jobs and it died down tremendously for me. It's still there sometimes but most of the time I don't have to worry about it.
Hope you can get it sorted!
The same for me. I owned and managed a recruitment business which was stressful. I sold up, retired and the problem is almost behind me. It occasionally comes back at times like a couple of years ago when my mum got a terminal prognosis and I got stressed again.

The trouble with IBS is that it’s different for everyone. Mine made me much too ‘regular’ which I controlled with prescribed drugs.

I can relate to everything everyone has said so far, I believe stress is a big trigger for me as well, however I seem to have a really random trigger pattern.

I can eat say a hot curry one day and half expect to be suffering for the next few hours or days and nothing happens I can then eat that same curry a few weeks or months later thinking il be fine and the heavens will open, I'm bloated, lethargic, gassy, stomach cramps, burping a full on episode of discomfort and I'm left wondering why! What did I do differently!

I have tried to keep a food diary but I'm always left with no clear answers.

I removed caffeine from my diet for a full month and no change, I've tried a gluten free meal and I ended up on the toilet, I've been to hospital and had the camera as well as all the blood tests available and everything was normal go figure!

I can go weeks with absolutely no problems but equally I can go weeks with suffering.

I'm so tired of it but nothing works for me so if anyone can offer up and more suggestions I'm all ears.

Yes all major ones. Don’t have more than 200ml to start as it can give you the runs ! I promise you it’s worth a go, my Dad suffered all his life and it has sorted him out to.

As has been mentioned above, I tried low carb and drink kefir and the difference is night and day. I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance in 2011 6 months later I went from nearly 140kg (I'm less than 6 feet tall) to 78kg. Literally saved my life. It's well worth getting tested. I got treated for h pylori last year and all ibs symptoms have gone. Still drink, still eat spicy food, no issues at all.

Kefir is ace though.

Check the Polish section of the Supermarket for Kefir.
I have tried it for IBS Symptoms. Didn't cause any problems but not found it to be a miracle cure.
Peppermint Tea seems to help. Senocalm when the Bloating is particularly bad.

I've never had or heard of Kefir before but a quick Google and you tube search came up trumps, it's easy to make literally takes 2 minutes of effort and you can have an unlimited home supply of the stuff.

I think il give this ago.

Change of diet was probably what sorted me out the most.

Could manage mine with cutting out dairy and high fat/rich meals (which would trigger it almost instantly).

Cut out most carbs a good year or so ago for weight loss. Seemed to help even more (especially with beer induced bouts).

Also humoured my mum and tried bimuno.

All of these have helped to the extent that I very, very rarely get any sort of flare up now. And can eat dairy whenever I like now without issue (having not eaten it for a while, I don't hanker after it often...but when I do it's fine (I'm pretty sure the bimuno helps me on this one, but haven't control tested it).

Take your time on diet changes - changes don't happen overnight if they are the root of the problem. So give them some months to work.

My wife is Polish and always maintains a perfect figure despite eating a st load more rubbish than I do, come to think of it they all seem to eat loads of cakes, sweets, ice-cream etc with every meal. 2 breakfasts a day, You very rarely see overweight people in Poland. Saurkraut (kapusta kiszona) and pickled vegetables are eaten with nearly every meal, Kefir is drunk most days. Bucket loads of tea and they all seem to stay thin. Obviously there are exceptions but as a whole they stay thin. (Especially the women) Food is very similar to British food in terms of ingredients. Stodgy, meat, potatoes, vegetables. They fry a lot more than we would in the UK.

It seems that they have it drilled into them from a young age that they must eat this pickled stuff. Gut bacteria is taken very seriously as I found out when I went to the doctor once.

As disgusting as rotting cabbage is it seems to serve a purpose.

Kefir - if you can't tolerate it bag of frozen strawberries or raspberries, stick a handful in the blender and blend with kefir and you won't notice the stuff. (It does take a bit of getting used to)

With kefir for the first few days it may make things worse as your body won't be used to it but after a week or so it's amazing.

It would seem most of the Eastern European women are slim and maybe this Kefir is why!

Any recommendations on the best place to pick some up so I can make it?

I've looked on Amazon and they sell a powered version and also a grain version, I'm not whats the best option.

Thanks

I'm not sure about making it as I just buy it ready from the shop, It's everywhere here and really cheap.

I'll check online here for grains and let you know

Ayran is a Yogurt Spritzer.
Yogurt, Water (still or soda) and a pinch of Salt blended together.
Good after a spicy Meal.

Kefir is all about the good Bacteria.
Naturally a bit fizzy.

I had mine since I was 19. Last year I had my gall bladder out and it seems to have pretty much cleared up now. Most odd I know.
