I stayed 3 nights in Turkey. Both areas healed within a couple of weeks, some of my scalp stayed pink for a couple of months but it’s fine now.

I had 1947 grafts on the front and 699 on the mid scalp and crown.

Right folks, after using this thread for research, I can confirm that I underwent surgery last week at the Harley Street Hair Clinic. 1,984 grafts, pretty much all of it on the frontal area and mid scalp.

The crown wasn't touched at all (yet). The recommendation from several clinics was uniform, i.e., not to harvest too much initially, given the large amount of loss I had incurred and the amount, therefore, needing done on the front and mid scalp.

However, the feedback from the first operation is that I have very good, healthy hair at the back and there wouldn't be any doubts about being able to get the crown done in 12 months time. I'll see how it looks in 12 months time and make a decision from there.

How much did that set you back if you don't mind me asking?

£7k. I probably could have got it done cheaper abroad but I didn’t even entertain that option for a minute. Given that I'm fairly local to Harley Street, I was fine with paying a bit extra to get it done locally. Should there be any issues, I can just pop back and get them sorted.

Cheers I may drop you a PM if you'd be OK with that. Something I've thought about doing so it's either time to st or get off the pot...

Yes, that's fine to drop me a PM. I found this thread very helpful in my decision making process.

I first explored the idea back in 2014. However, I chose to wait until I sustained more loss because I wasn't interested in taking medications as a preventative measure. May as well lose the bulk of it then get it done (assuming you have a good donor area).

Well done. Patience, grasshopper, it’ll look great in a few months.
One of the best things I’ve done (3800 grafts 15 months ago).

I’ve been chatting to Ahamed from Harley at healthcare. - hair-transplant-clinics.co.uk they seem to be a bit of a broker for transplants as not all the clinics are under their branding. I’ve been offered 3400 fue for £2.5k. It seems very cheap for the uk. Not sure if it’s just because things are quiet with covid or it’s some amateur at the job, technician rather than Dr.

I’m having a meeting with him before I pass across any money.

Are there any specific questions that I should ask
I've been shopping around and getting some quotes. It's a bit of a minefield as there are loads of places with very similar names and harder to differentiate one from another i.e. many have Harely Street in the title wobble

I think I've had a quote from this same outfit and the price for the UK seems too good to be true 4000 grafts for a 'special offer' price of £3500. They've been really good in terms of response and no hard sell.

I've tried other clinics many mentioned on here and the response has been poor, weeks between emails despite a genuine enquiry.

I've had a couple of quotes from Turkey but I've pretty much ruled this ruled out. But for anyone interested its ~2k plus flight's for 4000 grafts.

A question for all those who have had this surgery...

Will the new hair not suffer the same fate as the original hair did - ie thin out and return to being baldy?

The hair round the back which is moved up top is of a different type that isn't prone to being eaten by the hormone that causes hair loss.

However unless you're done balding you may end up with a ludicrous patch of perfect hair up front surrounded by desolation as the rest of the weedy hairs clap out.

I guess you're encouraged to go on Finestrade to stop the rest of it falling out.

My hairdo is on its way out and I haaaaaaaaate the feeling, but I'm not willing to potentially mangle my hormonal balance to keep a few bristles up front.

The translated folicals should last a lifetime in theory. But hair from the non transplanted folicals will likely continue hence why you're better waiting until you've gone through the majortiy of your loss otherwise your potentially looking at multiple operations over time.

That's the reason I waited eight years from my first consultation to getting the work done. I wasn't keen on taking finasteride so I did a good job of losing what was left in those eight years... hehe They then had a 'blank canvas' on which to work. The surgeons actually prefer this start point because it gives them better control of the final outcome and the patient doesn’t have to worry about further loss.

17 months on, looks pretty good:

The transplanted area is a bit Arthur Scargill but nothing that a bit of the wife’s conditioner and a blow dry can’t mitigate.

I was pretty much completely bald on top. 3800 Fue; happy as always to answer any questions.
