As a bald man myself since 27 years of age, the thread intrigued me, it looks like I've stumbled into a hornet's nest.

Do whatever you think will make you happy, I'm pretty happy with the way I look.

I have seen some bad thatches in my time, it's not a good look, I hope it works for you guys -peace
I’ve had thinning air since my early twenties, I’m now in my 50’s and being bald doesn’t bother me one bit. But, and it’s a big but, I’m happily married with grown up kids. Had you asked me at 25 did I mind going bald, absolutely, I would of done anything for it not to of happened.

In fact I can’t believe for a minute that any man would honestly say it didn’t bother them going bald at a young age. Yes, some men may accept it more easily than others but I’m sure everyone would rather it didn’t happen.

I admire anyone who’s had a transplant, it’s a big step and not cheap and from some of the pics on the thread it looks great beer

I wasn’t bothered for a while. Recently though I’ve been on many conference calls, my window is behind me and I couldn’t cover it up any more. I’m also on a music scene with a particular style and can’t carry it off any more. Lastly, I can now afford nice stuff, so why not make my external appearance match the way I’d prefer to look? I have mates happy with the totally shaved look, and that’s cool, it just isn’t my preference. I looked in the mirror and saw someone else, and it made me unhappy.

Ok pics as promised.

Before:

The evening after… hairline designed to be somewhat age appropriate and I opted for more density on top and leave a bald spot

Today one week on, similar to my Dad’s hairline in his late 30s with the widows peak I used to have. I lost mine from the middle out, he lost his crown first, then the temples.

Thanks for putting the photos up. That's quite alltnof coverage for 1,600 grafts.

Are you using any medicine?

Thanks for sharing-be interested to see your results, will you consider getting a second one for your crown or see how this goes?

I've a bit more hair but a similar profile and was recommended 3K grafts. Can I ask where you had it done?

Anyone tried minoxidil tablets?
i was on minoxidil for years. Not sure if it actually made any difference as i can track my hair loss continuing gradually the whole time i was on it. Maybe it slowed it down but it's just conjecture.

It messes with your testosterone so not sure it's a very good idea despite any vendor telling you it's very safe. I had some symptom or other one day and at the next routine check with the vendor they told me to stop taking the drugs and never resume. They weren't really terribly clear about why, however there was a long list of side effects which they say are red flags. So that was that...

Better than the other one that starts with a P as I only took that for a week and it just (temporarily thankfully) entirely deleted any ability to get a boner.
Thank you B2CV, that’s very helpful.

No medicine except some OTC pain relief. Will start Minoxidil in a couple of days to see if the crown will thicken a bit and help retain the grafts.

As for the crown, I’m OK with it at the moment. Funds are a factor, as is how much hair is left at the back to move around! Maybe some day, but I think I can get the look I want without. I’m happy to turn back the clock 25 years without trying to look like I’m 20 again.

The monek look looks absolutely dreadful in every sense - If you're not having a transplant then please have the confidence to crop it close as it always always looks better and takes years off you.

The UK set ups I've spoken to have recommend finisteride prior too and post op. I'm not sure minoxidil does much (according to them).

ETA it could be due to age and current loss there really isn't much of the original folicals to die off.

Missed this - I'm in the US, I used Jernigan's Hair Replacement Clinic https://www.jernigans.com. They're in Raleigh, North Carolina, but have clients from all over the world including the UK.

I used to have it sort of combed into the middle. Not exactly a combover, but as the middle got thinner it looked a bit silly. My plan (if it all works out) is to do what I used to do when about 30 - keep the sides and back short at a number 2 and grow the top longer and take it backwards. I tend to go for a 1940's/1950's look, so a "high and tight" or just slicked back. It worked for my dad anyway!

Regarding the crown, did they say you have enough grafts left to cover in future transplants?

I agree, the photos where he has cut it off he looks younger straight away.

As a laugh during lock down I stopped shaving mine and grew it, ginger hulk hogan was the look I achieved at 31 years old.

Are people really that bothered about going bald, they resort to surgery?
Are people bothered when their front teeth fall out?

I see no difference. Both are disfiguring. Why not fix that issue. I like to look at nice cars. Why not have yourself looking the best it can.
Absolutely.

I'm not bald, but thinning (and have been since my 20's). It doesn't bother me that much, but if I could make It look better I would. I'd spend a few thousand getting it done, but not tens of thousands.

It's not a massive problem, but if it reasonably priced and the results are good then why not? Equally if you're happy being bald (or missing teeth!) that's absolutely fine.

Possibly, but it’s marginal.

In that pic I’d let it grow for a few weeks more than normal and it was deliberately brushed to show the hair loss for the pictures. Normally I’d have a number 2 back and sides, the top was brushed into the middle and flicked up. Didn’t look bad to me until maybe a year ago. During lockdown I just did a number 4 on top and it was ok.

I’ll add some more pics - all the scabs are gone now and the redness is fading. Most people think I just had a haircut, so my previous hairstyle must have been fooling people fairly effectively!

It'll be really interesting to see how yours turns out. My procedure was 1,984 grafts to cover pretty much the same area as yours, though I think you had marginally more hair left than I did.

I'm only just over seven months into having mine done and my hairline is already looking a lot better. In fact, the difference is so stark that when I look at pictures of myself from the last couple of years, prior to the procedure, I'm bloody horrified! It's a reminder of why I chose to get it done!

I'm also aiming for short at the back and sides and keeping it long and swept back on the top.

I'll hopefully post photos after the twelve month mark. Not really bothered about sharing the work in progress pics...

Most of it yes, but that's completely normal.
