Damaged big toe nail

Good Morning Folks

I hope you're all well.

A few weeks ago I banged my foot's big toe nail which resulted in the nail becoming bruised and the nail turned a reddish colour.

I went to the hospital and the doctor advised that I wrap a bandage around the nail in order to protect it, and that it should eventually heal.

Does someone know if there is a special name given to this type of bandage?

Would I have problems putting my socks and shoes on top of that ?

Socks not a problem at all. Some shoes were too tight but others weren't. I wore it for several weeks until my toe stopped throbbing and had returned to its normal size and colour.
