This has been a fab summer for me , the weather has of coarse helped, but just being outside going for walks and swims with the family, just simple stuff, I have given zero fks about anything in the news good or bad, not point losing your st over stuff you can't control.

‘’Lots of important stuff.’’

Demoted on Friday. Work - Waiting to find out this Friday what it actually all means re. demotion - it's being flagged as "helping" me, although no one has actually asked what i actually need yet..
Very honest and tough to deal with. Sounds like you are making the right decisions and priorities for the longer term. Impressed with the amount of reflection and action you are taking, and the support you have sought. Whatever the ‘demotion’ means understand it’s temporary. It means nothing in the longer term. Focus on yourself and your family and things WILL improve for you. Look after yourself matey. Welcome any updates you wish to share thumbup

The lingering challenge I'm encountering currently is with this 'hybrid' working environment. It has its advantages but the big downside is that it's quite difficult to get to know colleagues a bit better, given that I typically only see them in the office once a week. We have a lot of social events but it's during the day to day stuff that I find you get to know colleagues better.

Changed job - stress.
Moving house - stress.
Moving location - stress.
Family arguments - stress.
Demise of social circles - stress.
Demise of work social circles - stress.
Demise of mentors and coaches at work/life - stress.
Demise of sporting social circles - stress.
Dealing with a one year old who never slept at all - stress.
Money worries - stress.
Covid / lockdowns etc. - stress.
Working too much so as to ignore all of the above - stress.
No exercise due to working too much and terrible diet - stress.
Started drinking to deal with the stress to relax due to lack of exercise and terrible diet.

2022 -
Gave up drinking - found out i was using it as a coping mechanism..
Breakdown / burnout - moderate depression.
Advised boss four weeks ago i have moderate depression / burn out hence why performance issues in H1/22. Demoted on Friday.
Inflation/recession worries - Stress

I've deleted all social media, hardly bother watching the news anymore, and plough all my free time into family, exercise, and reading self-help and self-improvement leadership/management + emotional intelligence etc and doing "me" things. Sought out exec coaching, and reconnecting with people. Work - Waiting to find out this Friday what it actually all means re. demotion - it's being flagged as "helping" me, although no one has actually asked what i actually need yet..

Sorry to hear but totally understandable.

Not sure demoting you after you’ve informed them about your depression is acting as a caring employer.
Maybe offering to appoint someone to work alongside would have been more appropriate?

It’s times like this you need the support of family & friends not more negativity and the occasional ‘swipes’ that get launched.

Well done for binning the booze. It only ever makes situations worse.

Good luck for Friday

PS keep away from the news wires . Totally depressing rubbish.

Todays headline is all about how families are already behind on fuel bills and the worst is still yet to come.

I find it draining too

If you’re trying to avoid negative stuff, stay away from the Internet.
When I think about it, my life is good. The vast majority of people I interact with are decent and pleasant.

If I take in the news or browse social media I get angry and anxious.

Respect to you, mate. Sounds like you're taking control of everything you can control.
