Vaccine side effects
Discussion
Heard a lot of people having had very bad side effects from the vaccine but tonight a close relative is in ICU not with Covid but after having a very bad reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine.
I'm young and healthy so wasn't planning to have it anyway but you couldn't pay me to take it now.

Why not EVERY medicine has side affects this is no different to any other illness or medication.
Most medicines you take because you're ill or you're vaccinated against something which has a good chance of harming you. Most young people are being vaccinated to protect people who are already vaccinated with a vaccine which protects them.
It's a bit like when you get a new carpet so you buy a mat to protect it. Then you see how nice the new mat looks so you get another mat to protect your mat.
Except I don't know anyone in ICU through getting a mat!

It is statistically likely to be the case that with the sheer scale of the vaccine program that there will sadly be cases that end up reacting. I say this as someone that has ended up in a&e with clots after the AZ vaccine, but I still believe and wholeheartedly support the vaccine program. However, I also appreciate that everyone needs to make their own choice.
I hope your relative makes a quick recovery.

2nd AZ yesterday. Not a thing. Top of my arm still numb from the first, but nothing from yesterday
Took advantage of the bringing forward for over 40s so rebooked on Wednesday and joined the old folk’s queue this morning for my 2nd AZ. No bother as per 1st, and I know it’s working in and out in less than 10 mins, very organised. The was some woman who was chancing it trying to get her 2nd Pfizer after 5 weeks, she was soon seen off though.

We’re your clots after your first or second jab? If the former, did/are you having your second?Assume AZ?
Had my first Moderna jab on Wednesday morning.
By mid afternoon I had a slight headache which got worse during the evening, my arm hurt like hell and then I had flu like symptoms. Luckily I had the day off on Thursday because I would have struggled to go in.
Friday I still felt pretty crap but a little better, the symptoms only really buggered off completely yesterday (Saturday).
Still glad I did it though, but I’m hoping my 2nd jab goes a little easier!

Anyone else been having trouble sleeping since having the vaccine.
I had my first AZ jab in March and my second 2 weeks ago. I've had a stiff shoulder since the first jab and I think it's this that's keeping me awake. I get off to sleep fine when I first go to bed, but then I wake about 3am / 4am and just can't settle. I'm that fed up with it I've ordered a new bed. I have never had issues with sleeping before.

End of march, 1st dose numbers 18m, ViTT cases were ~30. They increased quite significantly after. We are only now at the second dose 17-18m point with I think 27 reported ViTT cases from second doses. It's unclear if it will follow (or not follow) first doses from the 18-24m dose levels.
Until recently I was very dismissive of "side effects" but a colleagues other half had a minor stroke 2 days after their first AZ shot. Aged 51 with a history of clots and on the same medication as me to prevent them.
I'll be one of the ones top of the list for a booster but I won't be having the AZ one!

Had my first Pfizer injection on Wednesday afternoon (29 y/o). Everyone was telling me that I would have anything from flu symptoms to waking up the next day feeling like I had a major hangover and that I should consider taking paracetamol for two days to keep the worst at bay, but all I had was a slightly stiff shoulder for the first 24 hours. Being honest I felt slightly washed out after leaving the surgery and part of that evening, but I put that down to it being a pretty warm day and the car not having functioning air conditioning (drove 20 miles there after the car had baked in the sun all day). Other than the shoulder I felt as normal on Thursday and have done since.
Looks like I'll have to wait and see what the second round brings.

Thanks. I had a reaction 4 weeks after my AZ jab. I have a consultation on the phone tomorrow after lots of tests as I believe I had lung clots. Won’t be having jab 2 if it’s confirmed, that’s for sure.
A blood test will confirm both low platelets and a d-dimer reading (from blood test) will confirm that you have had clots. Had 2nd AZ a fortnight ago. Very rough that night and next day. Been ok since. Today I feel rough again, mainly achy joints and neck, even my wrists hurt! Not sure if it's side effects or the fact that we moved my son out of his house this week and its involved a lot of lifting and carrying. And I'm putting the hot sweats down to nature.
Negative LFT yesterday.

My GP had confirmed low platelets from blood tests (never heard of d-dimer) but she wanted me to see a cardiologist to rule out heart issues. Once that’s completed today, I get discharged back to GP and then I can have the clot discussion. It’s a nightmare trying to have two lines of enquiry about health issues at the moment.
There is a specific antibody related to ViTT I believe. PF-4 platelet factor iirc from some of the medical literature. I'd assume that's the differentiating factor used for the moment to exclude other potentially 'normal' clot incidence.isaldiri said:
