It is so odd, my dad is 62, Type one and it didn't affect him at all! Not even a sore arm!

Had mine Friday evening, AstraZeneca. 51, fit, cycle a lot, no underlying conditions. Had COVID last year, mild symptoms and recovered fine in about 10 days at home.

Felt ok until about 11am Saturday, started to feel achey and headache started. Overnight into Sunday felt pretty rough, Very cold, aches everywhere and pounding headache. Woke up Sunday morning and headache and aches had largely gone. Fatigued Sunday but had a crap nights sleep anyway. Ironically at the worst I felt worse than when I actually had COVID.

Now just have a sore arm at the injection site but otherwise fine. Mate is a doc and says it's seeming that side effects are often worse when you've had COVID and already have some antibodies, but also that it's showing a good immune response so all good.

Can you ask your wife, girlfriend or significant other to report back if you don't make it?

Exactly what I posted.

Why would I chance being injected with something that protects me from something that is incredibly low risk when the long term rinks of the vaccine are unknown?
I see that the other way around. We have no reason to think there are likely to be any long-term risks from the vaccine, whereas we know for certain there is a significant risk of long-term issues from covid.
Au contraire!

We absolutely know the risks of Covid for those under 60, fit and healthy - we have real life stats. We cannot know the long term side effects of a vaccine that has only been in existence for months - unless you have a time machine.
I'm not at all sure we do know the risks of long covid. Its been stated as a binary outcome, largely, in the media and so on - you either die or you don't. I still see media spouting the "kids don't catch covid" nonsense. They catch the virus, they may or may not develop covid. Fwiw, and this is PH after all, I am 45 and fit, and for a large part of last year was firmly in the "not bothered at all" camp. Well i caught it early Jan and am still suffering effects now. In fact in our bubble of 5 healthy adults and 3 healthy children, one of those children is still suffering effects, 3 of the adults had a terrible dose, one didn't catch it (bizarrely) and one is no longer with us. Its bizarre how it can affect some people so badly, and others barely at all. The long covid side, though, is largely not known.
All valid points Mike. You’ll see from my post a day or so ago that I’ve changed my view and decided to get the jab after considering all the points made.

Hope you feel better soon!
Gary - just wanted to say fair play for posting that you've changed your mind on the vaccine and will be getting it; many people wouldn't have admitted it even if they had, perhaps just quietly gone off and had it done.

Kudos and respect for that.

It's one of the things some recommend taking to reduce any side effects, however, along with aspirin/ibuprofen, it can also reduce the effect of the vaccine.

Well done, and thanks. I've had the bug, but still will be getting my vaccine soon. At 45 i'm not sure why i've been called but am not complaining. I honestly would not wish covid on anyone.

More puzzling is that OH and I both had the Antibody test last week, mine was negative and his was positive!!
Which antibodies was his test showing positive for? On a LFT, there will be three possible lines, one is the control line, the other two are antibody lines. One is evidence of a previous infection, some time ago, and the other is evidence of probable more recent infection, because one type of the antibody tends to pass from the system more quickly than the other one. If you have both lines present ( in addition to the Control line ) you have both types of antibody present.
It wasn't the test for current infection, we had the Nuffield Covid-19 IgG antibody blood test (to see if we have had it previously) - it didn't break the results down like that

I'm just out of the other side now but had the AZ at 2pm Saturday. Ok the rest of that day. After 24 hours had major loss of energy had the afternoon in bed a Sunday. Didn't sleep well Sunday night and was hot/ cold/shivering. Felt just about ok to go to work Monday although I had some kidney type pain in my sides but mid way through Monday PM just in an instant went back to normal just like that. Today Tuesday I'm fine feel great.

The overall side effects for me were a bit like the tail end of a bad cold with general body ache and pretty bad tiredness. I would certainty advise not booking anything in for 48 hours after you have had the jab.

Feels great to have had it for lots of reasons our docs are really cracking on and it was very well organised. I guess within a week or two or pretty much guarantees protection from the worst effects of this horrible bug and life can start to slowly get back to normal.

Really pleased to see Garyhun decided to go for it. Hopefully as many people as possible can get on board and we can all do our bit.

Thanks, nice of you both to say.

I like to think I’m an open minded sort but sometimes you do need others around you to help you see the bigger picture. So thanks right back at ya!

And, I believe we managed to do this without the normal personal insults that occur on Covid threads smile

Just to add ....

I booked my jab using the website and once the date and time was selected it also allowed me to book the second jab. Quite impressed with the efficiency.

I tried to that and was offered the options of 04:35 or 05:15 somewhere in the Andromeda galaxy, the first Christmas after next. I would have had to park on the moon and walk the rest.

I then got the number for Fast Queue and spoke to "Ruby" who sorted me out one locally for Friday of this week.

38 and had my Pfizer jab this morning on account of having Bipolar. Currently on a 6 month course of steroids for an auto immune issue and was reassuringly told that they have no idea how it interacts with steroids or auto immune conditions. 3 hours in and no side effects yet!
A lot of people there for their second dose which was good to see.

Out of interest, is there much queuing involved?

My final post on the subject. First jab of Pfizer 3/2/21 and second 3/3/21. Didn't feel the needle and no side effects whatsoever except a feeling as if I had a slight bruise on my arm (which is quite probable) for a few hours after the second one. I am 75 by the way.

The news footage of people getting the jab shows quite a long needle being pushed directly in, which would enter the muscle if appearances are correct. Is that the reality of the situation?
