I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and swap out my Quicksilver Supersports exhaust back box which is basically a straight through box with no sound deadening and is just anti-socially loud.

I’ve been considering Larini and Capristo as they both do a valved switchable backbox similar to the std AM offering but having no experience of either manufacturers products I wondered if anyone here could comment? Especially as the Capristo is nearly twice the price of the Larini one.

I've just spent a fair amount of time on the websites of both Larini and Capristo, both detailing how much better their exhaust back boxes would be (Capristo claiming a 15bhp increase) and with headphones on I listened to the sounds of both their back boxes. For me the Capristo just nudges it but its not a night n day difference. Given the differential in the costs, I think the Larini would win it for me on a price per sound level.

Of course the Capristo states it was trialled on a V12 engined Vantage but the car in the video was a 4.7 V8 ... I'm sure also, the sound would change if you had replaced stock cats with hi-flow cats etc.

If money was no object then Capristo, otherwise Larini.

What's wrong with the Quicksilver exhaust you have on your presently?

Thanks Jon,

my car is a V12 (DBS) with secondary cats removed. I’m not really looking for power gains and (unusually) I’m trying to make my car quieter so those videos don’t really help as they’ve filmed inside a workshop to make the sound more echoey.
I’ve been in touch with both manufacturers and they seem to be focusing on an increase in sound. Bizarrely neither of them could give me db readings for with and without valves open which would’ve been useful.

It’s not a case of money being no option as an extra £2k is still £2k but if it’s worth the extra I’ll pay it, the Capristo certainly looks a nicer made product but I have no first hand knowledge of either brand.

It’s way too loud, I’ve basically got straight through pipes after the primary cats

Interesting, have you thought to go back to the stock back box as fitted by AM when your car was new?

Does a gen 2 vanquish exhaust fit a DBS? As I might do a swap, does your quicksilver have valves?

I dunno if it would fit but I will be selling my OEM V12VS exhaust with valves soon, in great condition. Drop me a PM if your interested (and have figured out it fits a DBS).

This is not spectacularly helpful, but I have the Capristo system on my V12V, and there is not a single thing about it I would change.

Acceptable whilst cruising, and properly epic when on full chat.

David
South Herts, if you want to come and hear it in the flesh.

I don’t know if it does? No it doesn’t have valves.

I can’t find a used one and a new one is nearly £3k and twice the weight of both the aftermarket ones

That is really helpful, thanks Dave. What’s it like on start up with the valves closed?

Kreissieg money no object, was extremely quiet with the valves closed and incredibly loud screaming high pitched F1 sound when open. I've never heard an exhaust like it.

I had Larini on my Vanquish, and Vanquish S and now waiting for one for the Rapide AMR, I loved them! That being said I cannot imagine anyone would dislike either so I don't think you can wrong really!

I had Larini back boxes and X-pipe on my Maserati, while I can't comment on the Aston sound, I can tell you they were quality-made.

I have Larini ST2 on my V8 Vantage with secondary cat deletes. It sounds great, no regrets. I liked the looks Capristo, but it is over twice the price. Many Aston dealers are Larini resellers if that means anything.

I’ve just ordered the Capristo with the remote controlled valves so I’ll feed back once it’s fitted.

Will do, I have a sound meter at work somewhere so will take some dB readings along with the video. Most videos show them being revved up in a garage or workshop which doesn’t give a true representation of how it will sound in the real world.

Thanks Andy, I see that you have the Larini already.

I went for the Capristo in the end because of the variable switching of the valves and that I can programme it to suit when I want it to be quieter
