Hello everyone

I'm going to change out the battery on the Sagaris. Whilst the wheel is off is there anything I should check or carry out any maintenance? I seem to remember that there's an earth point somewhere nearby?

Thank you

When I recently replaced my T350 battery I selected a battery with a different post layout such that the +ve terminal is away from the engine. Cables reached easily. Later Sags may be like this anyway.
It's worth checking the bolt that acts as the ground conductor through into the cabin. You will need two people otherwise tightening the nut within the battery bay could loosen the bolt on the cabin side.

If its anything like mine was; while the battery is out; give the battery tray area a good prep & paint

Thanks for the replies.

My Sag was originally registered in May 05. This is what I found. +ve on the left.

..and with a wooden block as a wedge! Normal practice?

That is how my battery was, except my T350 had an insulator between the metal heat shield and the positive battery post. I would say that what you have looks positively (pardon the pun) dangerous. They have been known to short out, which sets the car on fire.

This link may be interesting, certainly made me change my battery type when it was time to replace it. From your photo it looks like the cables are plenty long enough.

I doubt it is the original battery, TVR used BANNER in 2005 . So don't blame TVR for the block of wood smile
I use BOSCH and there are different codes depending on which side of the battery has the +ive post, its just a matter of buying the correct battery in the first place.

Totally bodge-tastic! Mine's another vote for someone fitting the wrong battery.

It's the wrong battery, but TVR fitted them with the positive post on the engine side until sept 2005 I believe. There should be the plastic insulator in place, but better to change the battery type to move the positive post away from the engine.

Hmmm interesting. Thank you everyone.

This battery was apparently changed out by one of the renowned TVR specialist... a few years ago!

In terms of maintenance, check out the Anderson connector cable and make sure in good condition, then pack with grease ... It very exposed to the elements and a potential danger point for shorting.

and don't forget to leave a door open (and the rear hatch window in a Sag) just in case when you reconnect the battery it decides to close all the windows and arm itself and you can't get insidesmile and have the key fob handy to turn off the alarm smile

For the ultimate protection...
Good idea to have the sealing cap at least. Not sure if they were fitted as standard.

The cap should already be on !!!!! I'd question who services your car if it isn't !!!! It's the cover that I pack with grease... There's an alternative hard plastic one which I think is better than the rubber one.
Available on E-Bay
