Personal accountability and motivation? I looked through some old photos yesterday, and couldn't believe what a fat blob I've been most of my life.

One photo below is me, aged 29 at a weight of 80kg - which is pretty much the weight my brain had accepted as 'normal' for pretty much my entire adult life (77kg at the start of the year). The other photo is me yesterday aged 40, 69kg, 7 months or so after signing up to this thread.

Hell is going to freeze over before I let my self turn back into a fat blob. Average life expectancy in the UK is 80, wasting half of my life a fat blob is quite enough already, I have no intention of going back to my old status quo. If I do, there is only one person to blame, me, so it's all on me and my own accountability to not fail.

So I was I for the last 20years+ smile.

The way I see it now, there is no secret to any of this stuff, you don't need fancy diets or training plans, so essentially the only reason why any of us are fat blobs is down to us, been weak, tempted, making excuses.

However how many of us would accept mediocrity at work, or put up with a car we didn't enjoy, or be 'happy' giving buissness to a company that was lazy, full of excuses etc. So why would you neglect the most important/valuable thing any of us own?

I say all this, the test is come Dec 2022 how things look!!

Another good week for me. 97 kg last Friday, down to 94.6 kg today. For the past 2 weeks I've used Friday as my 'treat' day with some non-keto stuff like flavoured yogurts, some oranges and a big meal with meat, mixed veg & mixed beans (iron), gravy. Then on Saturday I'll cut back, maybe just one flavoured yogurt and a smaller meal. Sunday back onto pure keto stuff to 'flush' the carbs out of my system and prep for another intermittent fast. Monday I'll try to start the fast but it's usually hard with still some carb remnants triggering my hunger so I'll take the edge off with a light keto snack. Tuesday I'm through it, insulin level flat-lined again, and then I can happily fast then until Friday night.

I've been feeling great too. Was bursting with energy yesterday so went out for a loooong walk. I'm sure the keto purists will scoff at my regime above hehe and say I'm not doing it right. I know, but as the saying goes : "if it's stupid but it works... " smile .
There's a lot I could use from this I think - not keto but having carb free days (or even meals!) and some fasting mornings so I don't start eating as soon as I wake up would help. In the office I used to avoid breakfast, decent lunch at noon and then a mid-afternoon snack with normal dinner and felt great, it's difficult to keep that discipline when I'm ten yards from my kitchen all day though. smile

Have identified some triggers that make me feel st, so oats and milk are fine but hot porridge sends me to sleep, and yogurt seems to put me in a daze for the next day, could just be the quantity though. I need carbs in the evening else I don't sleep properly, so maybe carb free lunches are the way to go, fish and olive salads etc. Being at home should actually help to keep it interesting, and cheaper.

5'11. Ideally want to loss another 1-2kg of fat.

At 80kg my BMI was surprisingly just in the 'normal' range. However if I get to 67kg that is till in the same 'normal' bracket, but the physical differences is night and day!

Need to pull my finger out and get back on this. Dropped a good chunk of weight between 2020 to 2021 whilst WFH but managed to pile most of it back on since I returned to the office last June

I figured you were taller than me.

I am in the process of trimming a few lbs of fat too. Ideally I'd like to do more but I find getting down towards 10% body fat is a real effort and starts to get in the way of other things I enjoy.

10% is crazy level to aim for! Am currently at 17% according to my very inaccurate scales/watch, if I was a bit stricter with no eatting cake(literally) and not drinking I recon I could get to 15%. To get below that would need serious diet changes which as you say will take the enjoyment out of life!!

Strength training instead of going nuts with cardio was my biggest 'game changer' in weight loss. Though I am now at a point I think I can genuinely start blaming muscle bulk for not seeing my weight go down smile.

An annoying start to the second half of the year here - I tend to be very good during the week; tracking with MFP and keeping below ~1,700 calories while doing exercise every other day but the wheels come off at the weekend, mostly due to wine and beer.

No significant change, just creeping upwards. Maybe time to try to build in more weight training but it's hard to get to the gym with two small kids (1 and 3) - excuses, excuses!

Pies, cake, beer and take-aways, is probably the answer for everyone not making any progress hehe .

Not

You don't need a gym, but a 1 and 3 year old are very valid excuses!!! Forget weight loss If you aren't suffering from sleep deprivation you are doing well smile.

Well done! What you say is completely true, the fitness and nutrition industry makes people think that you need supplements, equipment, subscriptions etc but the reality is exactly what you've just quoted.

Like a few on here, I made great progress and have then gone backwards, need to get my arse back into gear.

Im not signed up to this thread (that would be a good start!) but just seen your 29 Vs 40 picture and bl**dy impressed! Out of interest what did you do to get the flab down? There are no secrets of course...I think for my South Asian genes, it's the starchy refined carbs that are the main problem.....the kebabs and maccy D's may also contribute.....

I am 41.....my excuses are WFH, marriage and a baby = crap diet, booze and lack of exercise but tbh I've struggled with poor lifestyle choices for a lifetime barring a few years in my 30's when I hit gym hard/tracked calories/ lived like a hermit to avoid nights out on the lash.

Lost 12.9kg, 2 stone in old money. Diet and movement completely transformed. Another 2 stone would be ace. Not sure what I hoped for before holidays, but I'm chuffed. Still not taking my T-shirt off on holiday! Fat fker.
