Has the OP had a low level snotty nose cold or similar, that could be the body working to clear it and taking energy away from training?

I've no idea if it could be a factor but I listened to a podcast recently about the function on hormones. Low testosterone for example can make you feel fatigued.

I'm younger than you but have been interested in getting one of those full blood panel tests you pay for circa £100 but cheaper options.
I'm thinking about those panel tests too - please do post any good options that you identify!
I have used https://www.forthwithlife.co.uk/ before.

Useful for checking Vit D levels and also keeping an eye on cholesterol

I used medichecks last year, really good detail and included tailored doctors report.

Sometimes it is hard to quantify fitness, I found the VO2 max thing on my Apple watch which is a good indicator, well the VO2 Max is but not sure of the Apple implementation and its accuracy compared to a proper test.

However it does seem to track progress, been doing a lot more running this year and my VO2 Max has gone up 5 points, so however it works it seems to be registering my fitness improving.

Might be worth a try, it takes a reading for running and walking outside for any workout over 20 mins and then tracks it on a graph.

Purely anecdotal but looking back, a drop in fitness level was an early sign that my thyroid had gone into overdrive. I was struggling to lift weights that had been easy before and was finding it very frustrating. I didn't make the correlation for a couple of months though and was losing motivation because I was going backwards. It was the increase in resting heart rate that really had me going to the docs so if you're seeing that too, it's worth getting checked out.

All fixed for me now and I'm seeing gains again in the gym.

I suffer with Hay Fever and before i get physical symptoms, my energy levels drop off a cliff and my motivation to train or engage in hard physical activity wanes.

I agree that OP's comments sound like over training but don't ignore other factors such as post-COVID, hay fever, stress etc.

Ease back in gently, try not to beat yourself up and most importantly, be kind to yourself and listen to what you're body and mind is telling you!

Lol he's doing 2hrs of training a week for goodness sake, I'm sorry that really doesn't constitute overtraining, if you have nailed rest, nutrition and daily stress then you can place a way higher load on the body.
Er, no, I said 2 hours of rowing, I didn’t touch on any other training that I am doing

Then your OP is misleading.

Possibly, but as stated this was CV training

If your doing high volume aside from CV like a heavy weights at the gym or such like then that would definitely impact on your rowing, if you had given a bit more detail then it would have been helpful, anyway not here to argue, so hope you find a solution
