Anyone got/using one of these:

https://skullshaver.co.uk/

Any good? Current shaver doesn't really get close enough for my liking even on the shortest setting and the battery (non-replaceable) is now only just about managing to do head and beard in a single charge, it's had a very good innings though. I saw these on Facebook I think and wondered if they were any good, would only be for my head though, would need something else for the beard.

I have seen some criticism of these on Amazon reviews. A mate has one and says it isn't great, for the money.

If you want to go closer than clippers with no guard, just wet shave it. I started this a couple of months ago - it only takes a couple of minutes.

Wet shave would be far cheaper & probably closer.
(I wouldn't recommend DE to begin with)

I have the Chinese knockoff version which was around 20

It's OK, actually it's really good for the money...but my trusty old 3-head Phillips is quicker and is a slightly closer shave. I found the large 5-head cutting deck was just a bit too cumbersome, and it didn't really follow the contours of my head or face too well. It was a bit like trying to mow a small garden with a ride on mower laugh
Having tested the water with the cheapo version, I don't personally think spending more would fix the issues I found.

A half decent set of clippers with no guard and a shave will be miles better than that. Isn’t it just a glorified electric shaver?

I bought a knock off Chinese one for 20.. Worked OK, but you needed to go over parts many many times and it clogged up quickly before conking out a month after purchase.

I then bought a remington one for 60 which lasts longer, can cut through much thicker hair a lot quicker and doesn't need emptying so quickly.

Far quicker and less messy than clippers with no guard which I've used for years (and tended to cause my scalp to dry out and flake too) . Also a much closer shave and can be done in the shower.

I use a Phillips 3000 series wet and dry shaver. Intended for the face but provided you don't go more than a few days, you can skim over in a few minutes and keep things very short. Ingot mine for less than 40 quid in a sale. Batteries last well, it charges quickly and the heads last too.

Any recommendations for trimming to 4mm?

I'm using one at the moment that does this but it's about 4 years old so looking to upgrade

Not sure you'll get a skull shaver to clip to that length.

For that i use a wahl magic clip.. Don't buy from amazon as it seems rife for fakes. You need to find a proper supplier via the website.

Very powerful even on battery, lasts ages and can be zero gapped.

If your Wahl trimmer doesn't come with the ideal length attachment it is easy enough to source a more suitable attachment on Amazon or Ebay.

The magic clippers come with a no.1 and no.1.5 as well as the ability to adjust infinitely in between, so you should be able to get 4mm no problem.

But you just won't get a skull shaver type device to give you a stubbly length.

Headblade moto, you won't regret it. Worth using their headslick too.

Thanks all - SkullShaver doesn't sound great so I'll leave that alone, cheers.

Interesting, thanks. Might give that a try.

yes

A tub of proper shaving cream last a good few months, and a box off 100 blades will last several years for roughly £10
This is for face and head

I use mine without the guard and its perfect

Until recently I used 1/8" (No 1) but have since gone hardcore with no complaints

Indeed me too for my stubble. It was more a reminder you can buy attachments of different lengths to whatever comes with your clipper at purchase - eg I have added green 1.5mm, red 3mm, & purple 4.5mm Wahl combs - I no longer use any of the originally-supplied attachments as a result. smile
