Well I'm back at work. Went back on Tuesday and was in the office on Wednesday and Thursday. My cough is mostly gone, just hanging on. I still feel a bit bunged up and my left ear is still full of fluid, as well as my right ear. I'm pretty much deaf now.

Brutal viral infection whatever it is, only had 4 days but reading this is not promising. Started mild, then end of day one 4am, splitting earache, it burst and went away but still slightly deaf on both ears.

Now have everything, runny nose, sore throat, cough that comes and goes and this weird ear thing, feels sinus related to be honest and meds seem to help.

Had a couple of days off, went in yesterday, but last night it nailed me again, coughing all night, horrendous headache. it is a brutal bd of a virus whatever it is. AS it hits every part of your head it seems!

Haven’t a clue , my wife and I had this so called coughing bug for most of December. Hers faided out, mine got worse. Boxing Day she called, NHS 111 who sent a para straightaway, she did every test you could think of. This is not good news, straight to emergency critical care unit at RBH Reading. Streptococcal pneumonia, Sepsis, left lung full f fluid, heart rate 50% above normal ( no wonder ). I was on my way out. This was seriously scary.
Plugged into computers, drips, everything you can think of. I was just flat on my back for 9 days. Those people there are just wonderfull, they saved my life.
Been moved to the normal ward, getting better, but can not get out of bed unaided. Not shire how long I will be here. Next will be re hab.
I will keep you posted.
That was a close call. You were also lucky that you were in RBH. I have had relatives there before and they are so good and professional. One of the best hospitals I've ever seen.

A friend's son around 50 years old, had these flu symptoms, had to rest for a couple of day then went back to work then felt tired and ill again. He collapsed and passed away. He was at home on his home at that time.

I haven't heard any results from the coroner's examination but I suspect it was pneumonia (saturation of the lungs preventing oxygen to get through).

Yes I don't know what bug I had. I have all my covid jabs and booster and have had annual flu jabs. Already had this season's one two months' ago but this cold/flu took 4 weeks to kick. I'm now only slightly coughing now and then.

Well my remaining ear problem is still here. Paid to visit a private audiologist (no chance through the GP surgery) on Tuesday and he said I had minor ear wax in the affected ear, but not enough to affect anything. Had a good look and couldn't see any infection or the like. We discussed the symptoms that I had namely pain in the right side of throat (not like a sore throat), sharp pains running up from throat and ear into head, dull consistent headache and worst of all loud ringing in that ear. He said, going by the symptoms, it was likely a problem with my Eustachion Tubes as I can't pop it when holding my nose and blowing, it's either inflamed and closed up or completely blocked. He gave me some info about massaging that side from my throat up to the top of my ear and doing the inhaling thing with Obas Oil or Vicks by breathing in and out through the mouth whilst holding my nose over a bowl of hot steaming water. As of today nothings changed.

Oh, and still get the sweats at least once a night and the top of my head on the right side is very tender when touched.

GP again today as after 10 days of night sweats and shivering plus the daytime symptoms and subsequent very little sleep I am completely exhausted and close to collapse- prescribed replacement inhaler for SOB and zopiclone to sleep. Never had sleeping tablets before and I’m a bit anxious as I’m an incredibly vivid dreamer and a major side effect of zopiclone is hallucinations.

I guess I will either sleep or climb the walls.

Just about getting over the Lurgys Revenge - has anyone noticed with this bug you get lots of symptoms but not necessarily at the same time?;

Both "runs" through now I've had a day or two of coughing, which has subsided to be replaced by sinus issues and much snottiness, which is now on the way out, but now it is my left ear is getting blocked up for no reason.

They worked well then. smile

It's getting on for a month and I'm nearly better. The main issue outstanding is fatigue and weakness. I still feel like I'm 10-20% down and it's a bit variable. Appetite is normal but normal taste has taken a while to come back.

It’s finally got me properly, after a month of feeling rough AF I’ve now it the sore throat & cold/flu. I have the weekend off work so will self-medicate with San Miggy, tequila & a decent chilli-based curry. It worked with Covid so fingers crossed

Anyone having yellowy phlegm especially in the mornings even though you’re pretty much recovered? Feel like i’m 95% back to normal now.

I now have both ears feeling blocked, coughing is keeping me up at night, is about as dry as a cough can be, but today have a little bit of phlegm which is welcome! Sore throat has largely gone, but yes hearing is odd, early on massive ear ache one side, then a crack and some bubbling as it cleared, but both dies now feel rough

Deffo a sinus things aswell as others. Weird infection, could it be a sort of weak Covid hybrid?

I knew there would be a topic on this, it's doing the rounds near us.

Haven't eaten since Saturday morning, snotty cough that is really quite painful on the ribs now, dizzy and nauseous, can barely get up to take a piss without collapsing with exhaustion. Oh and the bd fever has me adding and removing layers of blankets every 30 mins.

COVID was a little sniffle compared to this evil bd!

I didn’t get any phlegm at the outset although probably after a week after been laid up for 3 days I developed a cough which 1 month on is a bit phlegmy although clear. And not in the morning

Yes. Felt fine for weeks but still wake up with a tickly cough and throat has a lot of phlegm. Without being too graphic if I don't cough it up and gob it out it makes me dry wretch.

Well after about 2 weeks off im frigging ill yet again with the same old sinus/nasal cold, culprit being my son who had running nose all weekend and is now better.

This afternoon I had the shakes and now burning up with nasal drip, yet easier less running nose. Horrendous.

I really am getting fed up of it but there is nothing I can do but ride it out.

It worries the heck out of me reading about Strep cases (Jeff Beck died last week from it). Reading into symptoms the stuff Im getting doesn't have shortness of breath just scratchy throat, pounding headache and cold/flu nasal, but what has been the real symptoms you've had?
