Well seven weeks after first falling ill, the last couple of days are the first where I'd say I'm now pretty much back to normal. Unfortunately there was no shortcut or treatment that worked, just had to ride it out. The cough was the worst thing, glad to pretty much see that back of that...

I am one week into what started as a cold and has got worse . Testing negative for Covid. Last night in spare room I turned the light on twice as I could hear a really strange noise . Called out to wife in main bedroom to check all was ok . Back lying still and listening it sounded like someone moving the bins around outside. It was then I worked out it was my breathing, my lungs are rattling .

I had fever for a few days after xmas, then I had elbow inflammation last month where the doc put me on fluoxicillin (4 times a day 500mg). Elbow cleared up on the ABs, the doc checked in with me and i responded with an image of ig where it looked red and was peeling, i had no response for 3 days and by then it was a friday (he was ill tbf), he saod he recommended going back on the ABs. I had work up north and felt recovered so didnt go back.

This week has been the worst ever, My body temp has been 38 and 39 for 75% of the week, body feeling like ive had a match with mike tyson, no deep sleep as in pain so i decided to go back friday. Head is also pounding on one side when i stand or bend.

I felt ok yesterday but he said i wanted me back on the ABs and i have a blood test next week.

Im worried this is athritus or gout, last night after two pills i was blotching up thats all gone and my opposite elbow was in similar pain.

Add in the mix an ill missus and toddler running riot and its hell.

I just want a diagnosis.

I woke up today and it’s back, but with a twist. I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus and am displaying exactly the same symptoms as last time. However, this time my first test for COVID is positive. Oh well, some time on my own away from everyone is no bad thing.

I've been dealing with something the last few weeks, I think I'm on day 18 or something now.

Chest infection, sore throat and to top it off I've lost my voice. Went to the docs this week and she diagnosed Laryngitis but said my chest is pretty clear, Sp02 at 96% so I'm over the worst of it but feel very weak and drained.

The 100% worst thing about it is the mornings, I have to spend an hour hacking up all sorts of multi coloured gunk but after that it's okay.

First time for me too. I actually feel loads better today, but not being conned by this, as I kept having false dawns on my recovery last time round.

Haven’t a clue , my wife and I had this so called coughing bug for most of December. Hers faided out, mine got worse. Boxing Day she called, NHS 111 who sent a para straightaway, she did every test you could think of. This is not good news, straight to emergency critical care unit at RBH Reading. Streptococcal pneumonia, Sepsis, left lung full f fluid, heart rate 50% above normal ( no wonder ). I was on my way out. This was seriously scary.
Plugged into computers, drips, everything you can think of. I was just flat on my back for 9 days. Those people there are just wonderfull, they saved my life.
Been moved to the normal ward, getting better, but can not get out of bed unaided. Not shire how long I will be here. Next will be re hab.
I will keep you posted.
Fyikesk me - you lucky bd - well done your missus - get well slow and steady - I have found rushing this 'orrible bug just sets you back again.
I’m going to have surgery on my Spleen to stop it bleeding

Had a flight recently and sat next to a chap who was coughing his lungs up all the way !

As you may have guessed I am doing the same now. It appears worse at night , I am coughing up all kinds of gunk and chest is very wheezy.

I need a break from this!

That was reasonably easy this time round. One day of aches and pains that was very painful. Two days of the pain subsiding significantly, no recurrence, a day of a runny nose and then tested negative yesterday after two tests, one by a hospital as wanted to visit a friend who’s been stuck there for a week, unrelated to this.

Bit weird, but very thankful I didn’t have to go through it all again.

They did not need to do it , Spleen stopped bleeding.
Some time later the Docs decided that I was fit and well enough to be released from captivity.
I was transferred to a rehabilitation unit in Wokingham Hospital. That’s 70 days in hospital and counting.
Lots of gym work, but it will take a very long time to get my leg and muscles working properly. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will never be as fit and active as I was before Christmas.

I don’t get ill very often, but oh boy, this is kicking the crap out of me !

I got caught in a brief shower at work yesterday. Not enough to get me wet, just a little damp. By the time I’d put my rain jacket on, the rain had stopped.

Almost instantly I started to feel iffy. By the time I got back home a couple of hours later I was in a bit of a mess.

Symptoms:

Despite being wrapped-up like Scot of the Antarctic, I’m cold to the bone. I’m wearing 2x long johns, 3x socks, vest, t-shirt, thermal top, hoody, a fleece, winter jacket, thick Woolley hat, and my dressing gown, and I’m still freezing cold.

Despite having drunk loads of water, (7.5 litres in the last 15 hours), I’ve only been for one small wee, and that was more like treacle than urine.

My lower back absolutely kills. It feels like I’ve been kicked in the back by a horse.

I’m incredibly dizzy. Even sitting up in bed I’ve got to hang on as the room is spinning, (but if I lie down, then I’m ok).

I’ve got zero appetite. I haven’t eaten in about 20 hours.

All of my joints really hurt. Feet, shins, knees, shoulders, elbows, hands, fingers, etc.

I’ve no idea what I’ve caught, but my God, it’s knocked the stuffing out of me.

Thanks for the nice words of support McGee.
After 85 days in hospitals I’m going home. For the time being I will live downstairs. The occupational therapist has arranged for a state of the art push button hospital bed to be located in my dinning room, a special chair for the TV room and other equipment to make life safe and convenient. Not sure about a smelly commode in me dinning room though. We have the usual hall way loo but the OT is not happy with that. I will also have someone coming to my home every day. How about that for service.

I can now walk around with the aid of a walking frame. Wash and dress myself, it’s amazing how I have improved in a few weeks of rehab. The stairs are the next task, when I can climb them home life will be complete. I was planning to spend £3000 on a stair lift, but what’s the point if it’s redundant in less than a year.

Being with my wife in our home will boost my mental health %1000 and food? say no more. I may even be tempted to a pint and an Indian take away.
All said and done the NHS a have been wonderful. Lovely dedicated people from the pretty young nurse who attends to my personal needs, to the top consultant who worked wonders on my in critical a care
I will be grateful to them all for the rest of my life.

Kraken, maybe? https://www.sciencefocus.com/news/covid-variant-xb...

From what you’ve said.. very similar to what we had 6 weeks ago, caught in Barcelona in spain and knocked us off our feet.

we both had covid for the first time last year and this variant had all the same symptoms plus some new ones, so very similar but wouldnt show on a lateral test (as it only stays detectable for 3 or so hours)

Within the last 6 weeks my wife has been into hospital for an unrelated operation and before admission she was pcr tested for covid and again results were negative, both of us coughing like smokers the whole time we were there.

Ive only stopped coughing this last week but even then theres a mucus at the back of my throat still.

I haven’t had the cough, despite being a heavy smoker.

I’m still feeling like crap, but a little better than I did this morning. For the first time in 17 months, I’ve just had a day off of work, most of which I’ve spent sleeping.

I'm not a medic but I think you need to ring 111 asap and tell them your symptoms, sounds like your kidneys aren't working for some reason, possibly infection.

10 days ago I had a mild chest infection. Called the doctor, and given a 5 day dose of amoxycillin. Seemed to be doing the job, feeling OK. coughing less, etc.

2 days later went from fine to 41.5c, twitching, not quite sure what my name was, odd hallucinations in less than 20 minutes.

Phoned 111, and 30 minutes blue lights ambulance to local hospital.

Community acquired pneumonia, apparently, so more antibiotics, etc via drip. don't recommend it. but quite common this spring, about a month for full recover.
