1000 calories in one hour is mad, and you wouldn't be able to sustain that long term. Doing 250 calories in 20 minutes for a recent FTP ride made me feel sick!!
If you want to actually loose weight you have to reduce/modify your food intake. You don't have to starve your self but you do have to eat less, and build it into your dialy routine.
not sure on long term I've been doing doing 1.2 - 1,5k overall a day for 4 days straight. Will keep pushing myself, just bought a bike so will mix it up and doing weights. Really enjoying it, yes the eating less but at least this way it is a 360 approach. I used to do 2 hours cardio a day before work about 14 years ago, so nothing really new. Feel great as well. 2hrs cardio everyday before work, good going, I barely have time to do the 3Ss before starting the school run than work .Not stuffing my face with snacks at work is far easier to sustain for me.

Another 1.4 kg dropped over the last week, down 16.3kg to 127.7kg. Clothes are wayyy too big now and even I’m noticeably slimmer to myself which is good to see!
Well done buddy. I'm dropping about 1kg a week at the moment, roughly in line with your figures. My clothes could double as a Victorian bedspread.Thankfully I have a wardrobe full of attire from when my weight was in the ascendancy, so I'm sure I can find something to fit me, all the way down to 110kg.
Not done too well this year, but found an old weight slip from a year ago and still 2 stone down, go the gym 4 times a week, eating what I want. So even though not lost much, still kept it off and hopefully another 2 stone in 12 months, i think 4 stone in 2 years isn't too shabby and unrealistic. Well hopefully.

That seems sensible, I dropped four stone in several months last time I tried and that was way too much too quick and was clearly unsustainable. Slow and steady leads the way!! biggbn said:

long term it is very hard. My issue currently is boredom and hunger. But when the summer comes so much more to do in evenings. That is when I lose weight. Just bought a new MTB as well, going out the weekend.i do think it is good to keep track on things as sometimes you forget how far you have come.

Weighed in earlier today..total of 2st loss..4lbs under my adjusted target weight - happy with this as I will be indulging on a weekend in london on Friday - Show booked…table at gaucho also in for Saturday evening!
Time to switch to the maintain diet which is basically more points allowed on the WW app
Exercise wise I’ve managed to get back to running on the treadmill- started some machine assisted weights for toning up - work have laid on a weekly 45min boxing lesson which I’ve enjoyed thoroughly - so much so I’m starting one to one hourly lessons on Monday
Feeling really good - keep on keeping on everyone!

Now this suggests last week was a 'false' weight, big birthday weekend, load of beers, curry Saturday night etc but this morning I'd dropped from 138kg to 132.6kg, so even allowing for error, I've shed a few pounds. Have been brutal with calories to be fair, rarely over 1500 daily and no crisps, sweet snacks or anything so moving in right direction.

There was an article recently about a weight loss drug that said 90% of dieters end up back at their start weight! That's a bonkers stat and shows how flawed we are.
Down 0.2kg this week which surprises me as my diet has really slipped but I'm still exercising.
There is a theory that your body has a "weight set point", which your body will attempt to maintain. You can change it but it has to be done fairly slowly - I seem to remember 1kg per week or something. That's just your body playing games with hormones (i.e. ghrelin) - you've also got to unlearn habits/form new habits which takes time too like having supper in the evening, sugar in your tea or whatever.Down 0.2kg this week which surprises me as my diet has really slipped but I'm still exercising.
Losing huge amounts of weight with strict diets and immense amounts of exercise can be thwarted by your body and brain when you can't keep up your regime. You're too far ahead of your weight set point. I will also say that everyone is different and some may have the strength to ride all that through to permanent weight loss.
I think I’ll be leaving this thread., I reached my target weight and wish the rest of you well. Without lecturing, after most of my life really believing the calories story, (ie the number of calories is what’s important) I now understand it is bullst. You may disagree and I can understand that reluctance, just as I did.
Ie what you eat does make a difference - most carbs are going to have the effect of making you gain weight.
I’ve lost my weight mostly by doing keto / some days just low carb, and lately started getting into fasting. It’s quite interesting topic and also it does of course work. If some of you aren’t making progress I would advocate looking into it, what have you got to lose.

I think it is complicated. I was thinking how even though people on benefits have all the time in the world, they don't make food from scratch. When you start making everything you eat you end up not feeling as hungry as you should. I think the fact people can have hundreds of calorie foodstuffs in seconds drives this hunger demand and fulfill. We just aren't used to being hungry anymore.
Would be interesting if maybe they taught cooking in schools (mine did) . Move away from processed crap.

New to this thread, good to find it.
I sat on a bar stool on New Year's Eve in what was my favourite shirt and realised I was pretty close to popping some buttons. I'm 48 and getting married in July and thought that was as good a reason as any to lose some weight and get fitter. I'm doing a bit of karting with friends to, and PWR makes a big difference obviously! I am a cyclist but a not very serious one, I could do a 50 mile club ride with a bit of huffing and puffing but would likely then immediately negate any gains through the mediums of ale and pork scratchings. So I was starting from an OK place, but had lots of room for improvement!
I have been using the "myfitnesspal" app to track calories and exercise. I did dry January successfully (even into Feb) but realised how "bad" snacks are and how easy it is to tip into the red on calories in/out with just a few nibbles here and there, and for me if there's any treats, there's got to be exercise to counter it! I did a lot of Zwift (indoor cycling) over the winter with real world riding and running in the better weather, obviously that's going to be the norm now the clocks have gone forward.
Anyway since NYE I have gone from 90.5kg to 83kg so that's 1.2 stone lost in old money, and I'm looking totally different with a thinner face and I am in need of a new wardrobe which is both satisfying and bloody annoying in equal measure! I will be doing a 10k/6mile road running race in July and I've been running the course once a week and have got my time down to just under 50 minutes which I'm happy with for a middle aged git. Amusingly as a cyclist, obsessed over the latest carbon fibre this or titanium that to shave a few grams, losing almost the entire weight of the bike, but out of the rider, has made a huge difference to times/climbing ability.
I still have some way to go, and I'd really like to try and get rid of the belly blubber without my arms and legs etc getting thinner, any tips gratefully accepted!
