I've had Tinnitus that's off the scale for the last 13 years, it sounds like the noise when you remove a tyre valve but with your head up next to it,
truly horrific and it's every waking second, there is no escape other than deep sleep, there is often another sound behind it which can sound
like listening to a rock band from outside a concert hall, or a tumble dryer with half bricks in it ,and I have counted 4 different types of sound all at the same time.

In those 13 years I have 3 times woken up to find silence and it was bliss, but none of those occasions lasted longer than an hour. How did
that occur?, no one knows.

The things I have found exacerbate it are..... Monosodium glutamate, things like gravy with high salt content, caffeine, any moderately loud
noise, and antibiotics especially.

I know of a woman locally who had it so bad she jumped off the Forth bridge and took her own life. I've learned to ignore it now but sometimes
you can't help focusing on it.

The one thing that I find astonishing about Tinnitus is the fact that humans have achieved some utterly miraculous medical advances,
they can even put a rover on Mars and send pictures back to Earthbiggrin, yet this noise no more than about 60mm away inside our skull
cannot be dealt with. Astonishing.

It's very closely related to stress and increased anxiety / blood flow for many people.
The main problem being the viscious circle of anxiety caused by the tinnitus, making it worse.

2 things which worked for me-

- Acupuncture - free of tinnitus for the first time in decades...sadly only for a couple of days but there's something in it.
- A sleep / stress therapist, a kind of calming therapy, again with diminishing returns.

But basically if it's taking over your life, it's time to change your life.
Over stimulation, unneccessary first-world anxiety, ego stress. etc.etc.- addressing some basic underlying issues and staying calm is the best way to minimise and make peace with it. Trying to 'fight' it is the worst possible thing you can do IMO.

Its got worse since my father passed in January, Im having a rough time and feeling to blame as I took him to Essex to stay with some of my family for Christmas, I needed a break as id been looking after him, he got ill there and I felt they didn't really care, so the tinnitus is punishing me.Sleeps pants, fell out of love for exercise, concentrating on new business etc

I've had tinnitus since my mid teens after damaging my hearing at gigs and I'm 51 this year, I've just got used to it.

Rain works very well at masking it for sleep, but in my experience the only way to cope with it is to take a deep breath and relax; I find that if my brain tries to 'fight' it, it become infinitely worse. I always have a radio on at home, that also brings some relief...silence is not golden for me!

I developed tinnitus after a corona infection. My ears were clogged, dysfunction of the eustachian tube and a weird clicking in my ears when I swallowed. I was sick for 3 weeks, but the ear dysfunctions remained. The worst 3 months of my life for sure. I will have my appointment with the Staten Island audiology and ask for some tips how to avoid that in the future.

I've recently purchased one of these, in conjunction with Spotify rain sounds it really helps mitigate my tinnitus and improves my quality of sleep.

Maybe of use to someone.

Thats pretty much mine as well. Very high tone, mainly in my left ear, but also left centre. I dont suffer from stress or have a stressful life etc etc.....

The thing that makes me laugh to myself is occasionally the tone will change or another pitch will come in and then fade out......weird but its amusing in a weird way. Wish it would go away, I have forgotten what quiet is.
