interesting.

At work we have a bottle of nicotine. It smells amazing (am not a smoker) but is incredibly, incredibly toxic so I try not to breathe it that often.

Do you get a nice smell from these things?

A cheaper alternative is a nicotine inhaler. A friend is giving up smoking and rather than spark up, he just gets out the inhaler thing which more than resembles of those blowy things you get in party bags, and inhales the nicotine.

Don't know the price, but it's a lot cheaper than the e-cigarette, and spending £35 a week on fags.

He hasn't banned it as yet, just threatened, I'm as delighted with it, as he is disgusted by it, and we have a very long history (nearly 20 years) of just about tolerating each other.
He sounds like a right tw*t, how's it worked out now a month later? I've just ordered one to 'smoke' in my local, so expecting some fun next week from the holier than thou's.

Firstly, the inhaler is only cheaper if you enrole on an NHS giving up smoking course. Buying them over the counter it quickly becomes more expensive. £4.50 for a kit incl. 6 nicotine cartridges, and they reckon you need 6 cartridges PER DAY. Compare that to £30 for an e-cig, then £10 for a bottle of 'e-juice' which has so far lasted me 4 weeks...

Secondly, IMO the inhalers are crap. To get a decent 'hit' off the inhalers you have to have massive lung capacity and strength, strangely something smokers are not known for! It's like trying to suck air through a wet flannel. You also cannot reduce the nicotine strength, you just have to suck on it less. I'm already down to med strength e-juice with no withdrawal symptoms.

What E-Cig have you got? Tempted to look at getting one as I stink, the car stinks, house stinks. Are they really a good replacement as they look? - Currently smoke rollups

This one: DSE901

I think if I were buying again I'd probably get the classic - it's substantially bigger but less frequent charging needed. You can get either cheaper elsewhere, was just recommended e-cigs for their service (which has certainly lived up to reputation). wherever you purchase make sure you get a pack with 2 batteries, I need to recharge twice a day so have one on the go, one on recharge.

Don't expect it to be identical to a normal cig, they are subtly different. I'd liken it more to a pipe than a cig but after a few goes on it you won't notice. I've smoked for 20 odd years, 20 a day minimum and never managed more than a few days without cigs before even on all the NRT's. I think it's day 26 today without a real one.

Was on rollups so the weight / size was odd to start with, but after a few days I'd stopped bothering with the rollies -I've still got 3/4 of a 50g pack of virginia sitting on my desk with a few packs of skins!

Go adventurous with the flavours as well - I'm on vanilla at the moment which is really nice - like smoking a cake hehe Wife, who's an avid non-smoker, even likes the smell of it.

ETA: I found the pre-prepared cartridges ran out of "smoke" quite quickly - buy e-juice in bottle from same place and just add 2 drips every time the smoke thins and you'll get a much more enjoyable experience.

So how long does a cartridge last? I've read on the website its equal to about 5 fags, can you add the e-juice stuff to any cartridges or do you have to have a certain type?

I'm starting to realise now that all of the ones for sale on different sites are essentially the same models but have just been re branded/re-named.

Have you had any of the symptoms people go on about (ulcers/headaches etc?)

I reckon you get 3 cigs worth of 'full' smoke, then up to 6 further smokes of a reduced level of smoke. While the reduced level of smoke still does the business it's just not as pleasurable. You can just add the e-juice to old empty cart's (that's all I've done) or you can buy empty carts to use with the more delicately flavoured e-juice - I've never bothered with new ones!

If you do decide to go for the e-juice, DON'T overfill the cartridge, otherwise first suck you get what feels like half a pint of liquid in your mouth instead of smoke!

Yes you are correct, the vast majority are the same (or at least, each of the 3 different sizes is)

No symptoms other than bleeding gums, though I was told 1/2 hour ago by the dentist that that is quite common for people who give up smoking due to the large increase in blood supply (suggested I look at it as a positive that my body is 'healing' already) which could I suppose account for some people's headaches?

yikes

Not looking forward to that part! I'm going to get one ordered tonight so I'll let you know how I go, looking forward to it to be honest!

Last two q's if you dont mind! Firstly, how many refills do you get from a bottle of e-juice, secondly, how do you know when you have effectively "smoked" a fag. Does it automatically cut off when you have had a certain amount of nicotine or do you just keep going until you feel like you've had enough?

the reason I am asking is that nicotine is very readily absorbed through your skin, and very toxic.

about 30 - 40 mg (that's 0.04 g) is enough to kill an adult human.

If you spilt a bottle on you then you could make yourself very unwell/dead.

dunno the first one - yet to finish a bottle! I thought a month when I started, probably on target for that (smallest bottle)
second one - it tells you about 15 tokes is effectively a normal ciggy, but flashes at you if you are toking too much! I rarely take 15 tokes, more like 10 every hour.

The extra and super high carry rather substantial warnings - the high (what they recommend to start on) doesn't. It's labelled as 18mg but per what I don't know. It's mostly water, glycol and glycerine
