Im not really into these self indugent "look at me" posts but thought I might share that I am stopping smoking tomorrow. My company is running a seven week course with outside experts advising. First was a meet and greet, the second was advising the different types of medications and nicotine replacement therapies available and how to use them.

I have gone with patches and an inhalator, they say doubling up is better that using one product alone. Patches so I dont need to keep reminding myself to chew gum or put a tab under my tounge, inhalator is in case I need a hit and something to occupy my hands. Next session is tomorrow and everyone is going to stop smoking at the session.

I feel odd sitting here drinking and smoking and knowing tomorrow will be quitting day.

Wish me luck. Money saved could pay for a cheap track day toy or a season karting.

Any speeling or gandmar errors is because I am getting drunk tongue out

Good luck, I stopped on the 10th of January and have saved £500-550

It is a struggle at first but it passes after 2-3 weeks, try to avoid the pub or where you would usually socialise while smoking.

Well thats the thing, in the past stopping smoking and going to the pub was a no-no because of the other people smoking but there is no smoking in pubs anymore so no temptation and I can puff on the inhalator inside when the others go outside in the cold.

good luck. Quit real fags at Christmas using an e-cig, had a stomach bug last week that put me off eating drinking or smoking and haven't touched the e-cig either since!

Go for it - I stopped over 4 months ago after several decades of smoking. Patches are the way to go, though I stopped them after a couple of weeks. thumbup

Now you'll start to notice how strongly smokers smell!

Best decision you will ever make. A life free of the smokes!
Good luck with it, if ya get the physical "urge", distract yerself with semething/anything for 5 minutes, and it passes. Within a couple of days, all that's gone and then it's a mental game, and if you really want it it'll happen! Well done in advance smile

That's what I thought until I could smell the smoke off them when they came back in. It's odd when your sense of smell comes back after quitting.

Its the taste buds I am worried about, I have only recently started to eat things I hated as a child. Hope I still like them whan I can really taste them.

i did the same, picked a day in the not too far future and stopped then.

that was march 1st 1999

30-40 a day to zero

take it a day at a time

at the time was £3.40 a pack of 20, so even without price increases i've saved probably £20,000

do you find if you think about it you can get that urge to light up just as easily as if your last one was yesterday?

On a flight to Cyprus two years before quitting, I found that patches worked each way but smoked after the flights anyway.

I bought my first Lamborghini in 2001 and stuck on a patch at 10.30 on 20 October that year and have never smoked since and never wanted to either!

Due to not paying attention, I did have to quit the patches when I found myself waiting for a chemist to open to buy a weeks worth of the really tiny ones...

You will feel odd for a while, your hands will have times when 'they' don't know what to do with themselves - I recommend giving yourself the chance to make minute, detailed changes in the shape of your fingernails as often as you can.

You will begin to notice how rank smokers smell, try not to fall into ex-smoker self-righteousness if you can, you were once as smelly as they are.

You might save some money, but it won't feel like it - that's where an old Lamborghini can 'help' and you'll have a very good reason why you haven't saved the money anyway...

Your sense of smell will get better, though that can be a two-edged sword sometimes...

You will notice a steady improvement in your sense of taste, again, not always for the best. Sometimes coffee from machines that haven't been cleaned for a few hours tastes vile whereas a cup of a freshly cleaned Gaggia's macchiato is only the first of three or more...

It will take years for all of smoking's toxins to clear your system - if you have smoked from being a teenager as I did, you will rediscover some teenage activities that smoking might have restricted. Sadly, these will need squeezing and cleansing and you'll have to clean bathroom mirrors again, like you sometimes did when you were a teenager...

I don't miss cigarettes but sometimes smell and recall some of the less well-known things I've smoked like cigars and pipes and may, perhaps, have thought about them for a minute or two once more, but never for long...

GOOD LUCK - you're a grown-up, you can chuck your dummy away now wink

Good man!

The chemical addiction wears off after a few days. After that you're wrestling with the psychological addiction, and that can be a bit harder.

Every time you want a fag, find something else to do; the craving only lasts a few minutes.

If it were me stopping smoking over again, I'd do it the same way - complete and utter abstinence. Get that crap out of my system and out of my life in one fell swoop. A week of being a total bd and then all done.

That said, Mrs J stopped and stayed stopped by using patches, so it's whatever works for you.

I gave up 2 and a half years ago. I feel so much better for it.

Go for it, and don't think that you NEED the patches or whatever...it's about willpower. If you don't want to start again, you won't.

I have the inhalator to give me something to do with my hands . Also bought some bread sticks, celery and healthy dips. Rasberies and grapes to munch on.

Even as a smoker I have never liked vending machine coffee. Only one machine has actually managed a half decent tea, it actually dropped a tea bag into a plastic cup eek
