Does anyone else suffer from this? Recently I've had the contents of my stomach trying to say hello to my larynx and I'm not happy about it. irked

I'm currently trying to get on top of it with various treatments but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had surgery to get it sorted. Thinking about it I think I've probably always produced too much acid as I'm really trumpy paperbag but I'd like to get it sorted now.

Yes, I've seen the GP and been to ent for the old camera down the throat etc.

is it after fatty food, or worse when you lie down. are you overweight ...if all of the above like me....go to your GP !!!!!
seriously , some medication can help, but losing pounds and exercise has helped me.

A friends son had surgery to stop a serious case - he can now no longer puke, which I guess has some advantages.

Does Gaviscon not work? I would imagine you could buy weapons grade Gaviscon.

Eight Gaviscon tablets a day doesn't even touch it. irked

No puke you say, that could be handy, but hangovers would last months hehe

I do like my fatty foods (chocolate and coffee) but I've recently given up smoking as a result of this, I'll be buggered if I'm giving chocolate up just yet.

As for exercise, I swim between one and three miles a week.

I have a severe form of this to the point it has burned my esophagus.

I take Ranitidine to stop the acid production and it works fine but if the doctor prescribes Lansoprazole make sure you live in the toilet as you will be there all the time.

My next step is surgery though.

But I suggest a visit to your doctors.

Been the docs, just trying Omeprazole which seems to be better than Ranitidine, I got some unpleasant side effects with that and Famotidine.

My triggers are bread and pastry, I definitely think you can have a great deal of success by looking at your diet, my Dad suffered for years, his was alcohol.

Funny, if this was in P&P I'd have not bothered with it...

That aside, general advice is to lay off the booze, the fatty food and lose some weight, you fat bloater (sorry, thought you were missing P&P hehe )

My 10 yr old son is suffering from this or something similar - and nobody seems able to get to the root cause of it. He regularly vomits (small amounts, eg mouthful) up to 20-25 times in a day, sometimes more. He is on Ranitidine with Domperidone, the Omeprazole didn't seem to help. Mind you the Ranitidaine isn't either. He has had a camera down his oesophagus as well as a 24hr pH study, both of which appear normal. The consultant also ruled out coeliac disease at the same time. His next test is a barium meal next week. We are at our wits end with this as it is severely restricting his lifestyle (hockey, karting, football etc have been put on hold due to the symptoms). We've tried to see a pattern in his diet, but nothing seems obvious yet. It all started about 6 months ago and was not present at birth. If anyone has any idea, or suggestions, I'd like to hear from you. PM me please.
Cheers

Mine started about six months ago too. I thought my trigger could have been olive oil as I started using it a lot more when I came back from Spain, but I've cut it right out and still nothing.

In my case I think it's possibly just a case of losing muscle tone grumpy Ironically it's not too bad this morning.

Does your son take the Omeprazole well apart from any other remedies? You're supposed to leave an hour after and two hours before anything like Milk of Magnesia or Gaviscon!

Anyway Pods, what's a stone between friends biggrin

HRG - He's just on the Ranitidine and Domperidone tablets at the moment, I'm not sure how effective either of them are.

Check if the same rules about timing apply for those. Apparently they need to sit in an empty stomach without Gaviscon etc.

My son suffered the same problem several years ago. had all the same investigations and treatments. It stopped forever when his mother (ex-wife) and I sorted out which school he was going to after primary - it was all stress-related.

I get it when stressed- very stressed though luckily

Mainly chest pains and excessive burping, feeling of burning, but not sharp
Nothing major enough to warrant seeing doc again, just try to relieve the stress as quickly as possible and it goes away

Both my children had reflux one silent and the other not. We have been offered surgery for one recently and have turned it down. We are using a very high dose of omeprazole, gaviscon & dom peridone.
You know its bad when the reflux causes tears and blood in vomit. YUK

Some foods do seem to trigger it - we are keeping a food diary
