you.ve gotta accelerate the last 250m. so leave something in the tank for that. A good session for that is multi sprints. 20x100 rest 1. go as fast as you can and you'll get confidence in your ability to speed thru thu the line.
well done Richard..the PP is excellent. Sub7 is bloody diff. I havent tried a race for a year. pb still 6:47.6. Have done 100 and 500 pbs though. 15.8 & 1:28.6 respectively. My expectations to beat my 2k are too high and my brain says I cant do it...so I chicken out when the time comes. The shorter stuff is mentally much easier cos its over so fast. Thats why the 2k is a true test of rowing.
I absolutely went for it for the last 250m, and was gradually increasing the pace from 500m onwards. Think I was at 1:37/500 pace at the end - I know that I can go faster, but I timed it totally wrong. I did feel as though I was pacing it quite well for once, but I'm still learning.

This rowing challenge - both here on PH and amongst friends at the gym is incredibly motivating, and I do feel as though its going to do me wonders for kicking the smoking - replace one addiction with another.

Lucky you're not using the smoking as an excuse for not getting a better time though whistlebiggrin

Once an addict always an addict.... or is it obsessive?!

Counts for me anyway. Did weights circuit yesterday...called German circuit I found on a forum which gives good endurance and strength. Felt nausea at finish.

Here's the sets for those interested. It's geared for rowers.

Gym sets.

1. Bench Pull - 80 reps @ 40kgs
2. Sit ups - 30 reps
3. Bench Press - 40 reps @ 40kg
4. Power Cleans - 20 reps @ 45kg
5. Glute Bridge - Controlled 20 reps 10 weight in hand/stomach
6. Squat bjumps - 20 reps
7. Bench Pull - 50 reps - 50kgs
8. Dumbell squat - r40 reps @ 15kgs each hand
9.  3 in 1's - 30 reps (10 bent over row, 10 upright row, 10 military press) @ 12.5kgs each arm
10. Leg raises - 30 reps
11. Lat pull down - 30 reps@23.5kgs each sude
12. Leg press - 90 reps - @110kgs....I did 80kgs.

The blogger suggests doing it twice....No breathers!
This time I lowered the reps and some weights to allow continuous sets. I can't do 90x110kgs.... impossible for mortals.

Oh yeah and st, I wrongly read my pb 2000m, it's 7.23 not 7.13 so adjusted below with regret.

Did a pyramid of 1.00 up to 4.00 and back and then my first 500m sprint fwiw, fill in yours as the rest, guess I won't stay on top for long.

I had to break it down into sets of 30....the pain was shocking. it's a great overall piece which hits nearly all muscle groups. Plenty of compounds in there. So def advise to do it with reduced reps and kgs then build up. Do it twice a week with rowing on the other days. I'd say that if you want to attempt a good PB then omit this session for a few days before. You need fresh muscles for a good time!
