Bloody good going for that Silver, you must be rightly pretty proud of that.

What did the gold guy do it in?

He was a big muscles dude and was in the showers by the time I crossed the line...almost 5 secs quicker!

The younger age groups time was 1:19.9...fit blokes!

+1 on that silver!

Unsure about trying the 500m, was wanting to try the 5k again today after a weekend of relative rest. Maybe do the 5k, have a little wander around the gym for 20 minutes, then back on and see if I've got anything left for a 500m time.

Actually, thinking about it - not really unsure, just bloody nervous about trying it. Guess I'd be happy with anything sub 1:45.

Clonmult....only one time trial per day.....you'l be dissappointed with at least one of them. Any good race requires a cooling down prequel..called tapering down. Fresh body needed. Also watch the diet before.

Ta; hadn't read your message before trying today, but I decided to be sensible, and only went for the 5k. Felt very, very good! Paced myself quite well, but didn't quite have as much left for the final spring, but I'm now under 20 minutes smile The improvement must be equally down to both pacing and less smoking this morning. Competition is one heck of an incentive.

No doubt Driller will be back to take his 3rd place in due course. But getting below 19 minutes is currently pure fantasy.

well done...how many would you normally smoke in teh morning??...

I think the plan for tonight is either 30 mins at 20 SPM or 5X2k rest 4 at a pyramid of SPM 20-22-24-22-20. This makes you focus on a good hard stroke and will get me sweating...

Normally between waking (around 6-6:30am) and the gym (around 11:30-12), I'll burn about 6 of them. Today was down to 4.

How are you working the pyramid 20-22-24-22-20? Is it a minute at each, a specific number of strokes at each pace?

The 20 minute time was down more with longer/stronger/slower strokes (around 24 spm), todays felt more like a sprint, typically around the 28 spm rate.

Almost too evenly matched. I've been thinking too much about the sub-19 minute barrier. Will need to drop to a 1m54 pace. Ouch.

I'll do the first 2k at 20 strokes per minute(SPM). then rest for 4 mins. then next 2k at 22 SPM and so on...the speed drops as you proceed due to fatigue and each stroke sees a slower pace. but my aim is to prevent this . Good for erging muscles. I stopped ciggies 7 yr ago and best thing I ever did.
A good way to get used to prolonged 1:52-4 pace is to do sets/intervals. try 5X1000m with 2-3 mins rest. make each 1k slighter quicker. Mentally this is much easier to cope with. pieces like this will see your 5k times drop!

3000m today, last 500m in 1:45

The other splits were between 2:01 and 2:03, so finished under 12 minutes. Next step a sub 16 minutes 4000 and ultimately the 20 minute barrier for 5000m

My logcard is invaluable for keeping track.

I was hitting 182 peak (average of 155 over the 5k), that was bad.

But 10k at varying speeds with 4 mins rest between.... we've only got one working concept 2 down at the gym, whilst its the second least popular bit of kit (behind the stepper), I'd irritate a few people hogging the blighter.

However .. the thought of attempting a 10k, and trying to keep up my 20min 5k pace is a challenge.

Bookmarked, but it does seem to cover a lot of my workouts.

Looks like I'll have to change my grip on the single arm DB row - never really considered that I was holding it in a manner unsuited to rowing (holding at right angles to the images shown on the link), but was up to the 50kg weights (only a couple of reps mind). A change of grip will no doubt drop that weight down a little, but a change is always good in your routine.
