Does anyone know how drugs tests work?

I was just wondering, if you lived in amsterdamn (or in my case, a ski resort in canada) for a while, and smoking weed was as normal to everyone in town as having a beer. How long would it take before it didn't show up in any drug screening when you get home. For say, medical testing, or a job?
I'm a VERY occasional smoker/cookie eater, (to the point of i've never bought my own, only if its offered roumd, and then not always). But what if my friends were looking at cirtain jobs etc, when they went back to the uk?
What about other recreational drugs (which i dont do, just interested really)? how long do they show up on screenings.

Dope ie cannabis stays in your system for upto 3months if a heavy user , i think the body struggles to break down the THC
Your Class A type drugs tend to be around 48 hours , two body cycles
I do remember folk beating offshore medicals by taking the stuff women take for cystitis , suppose to flush you clean
Usually just a simple pee in a jar test
Best advice stay away from it for at least three weeks before the test { drinking lots of orange juice is alleged to mask the traces in your system but i wouldnt trust that }

depends how often you smoke it. if it's a 1 off you're talking 3 days ish. if you smoke it regularly it'll be more like 3 months maybe more.
you can buy test kits off the net if you're worried. i've seen a smoker pee on one and fail and a non-smoker pass so they do work.
also im not sure what the levels are but i dont think you have to be completely clean to pass it just under a certain level

It depends on the test but as said above, THC can take a lot longer to leave the system than other drugs.
The reason for this is that THC binds to the fat cells in the body rather than being processed by the liver and excreted in the urine quickly.
Women will take longer to be clean due to the higher body fat %.
Give yourself at least a month and maybe buy one online to check in advance if you're concerned.
