Not wishing to come across (ooer) all gay, but considering your current definition you still to be carrying a pound or two in the midriff.
Once you've gained the mass you're after I assume you'll be upping the cardio and reducing kcals?

I've got about 5-10lbs to lose, I really just need to give it focus.

I've just been hiding behind worrying about losing muscle and I've been living it up lately so less of that!

I'm going to go for another bulk before too long, I can reasonably gain several more stone's of weight I think!

Lee, I said I'd keep you posted about the diet/weight loss when you asked a while back.

I've lost exactly 1/2 stone since last Thursday despite more calories than expected over the past few days including the unnecessary calories in 3 orange and lemonades on Friday when out for a very rare drink - though no junk except my one remaining vice, pure orange juice frozen lollies to keep me sane! Calories budgeted for.

Haven't been in ketosis since early last week though carbs pretty low - all from either porridge, Ryvitas or rice cakes with the odd apple. Averaging around 1500 calories a day through 3 small meals (<500c each) + supplements; porridge in morning if I'm not out early - if so protein shake instead - then protein based lunch, sometimes with veg. soup, a protein drink after training then salad and ryvitas with a protein source each evening I end with a protein shake before bed each night.

I can't believe how little you get for that when budgeting for 3 or 4 protein shakes a day! Water only now though and I'm amazed at how massively my milk consumption has dropped - a week now would have been 1 to 2 days before!

When/if it slows I can cut back more but the more regular and interval training is the key.

That's great! I'm happy to hear you're doing great!

I'm surprised you can survive on 1500 calories though, you're a big powerful dude! I wish I could manage that! At 2,500 calories I'm hungry all of the time! It's one of my issues, when I train very hard as I've been doing my hunger becomes a real issue!

I'd be keen to see how you get on over a month or 3 months in terms of weight loss!

All the best,
Lee

Yes, I'll let you know. I want another 2 stone within the next 3 months and am keeping it charted which helps.

To be honest, from past experience and the amount of food I'm eating I'm shocked it isn't less than 1500c a day. When I've cracked on in the past it's been c.1200 to 1000 with some days even less. I do feel hungry from time to time - pre-training today I was desperate, so treated myself to a small apple! - but not so bad most of the time.

One thing is, I don't think I respond as well to low carbs as you do. It is necessary but I can feel lethargic and get a fair few dull headaches I put down to it so may need to experiment with the fats you use.

Thanks although I need to find the motivation to take the final sprint and then I will be good.

I've been considering it and quite honestly I'm not sure if I wish too. I know if I do I will have an amazing end result but quite honestly I like a bit of the bad stuff.

Either way I've got a few years of training to do before I'm in a place where I feel happy with my body, I don't right now, thats for sure.

Quite honestly I don't really shirk any fats, in fact I think they help with the weight loss process and in general health.

I eat a lot of eggs, and zero carb cheese for instance although I don't drink much milk as it often contains a lot of carbs.

And I never feel lethargic or have an issues with headaches.

If you spend half the time you use trying to change yourself and put it into accepting yourself for who you are you'll be much happier.

Copyright me, about now biggrin

That's a fair point! Although I think it's still worth striving to achieve something other than the ordinary I am at the moment.

Maybe my username is more adept than I'd realised!

To me training is all about achieving a realistic improvement without letting it rule your life. Hour in the gym Thursday, 66 mile ride Saturday, hour in the gym Sunday followed by a mile in the pool all interspersed with curry, ice cream and protein shakes.

Sure, I could be more ripped, but for why biggrin

Heh maybe you're right.

Although I did say when I get low on bodyfat this time I'd get my first tattoo. I've always wanted one and never done it for some reason but now I'm seriously thinking about it!

Ah yes the story of my life!

I gain muscle very easily but weight loss is always a challenge for me! My hunger is always off the chart and I always find it hard losing the last bit of fat but I've done it before and I can do it again!

So here's the change, I'm 7lbs lighter back in the low carb mode. I will keep getting more and more tight around the midriff until the next carbfest!

It's funny how much I can modify my shape in a short period these days.

Which just goes to show that the gain was carb induced water. Lower carbs - water falls off . . sorted!

When you are on a real push to lose the weight faster/ get rid of the last bits how many calories a day and how many grams of carbs will you want to be hitting, on average? So far today I've had 18 grams of carbohydrate - excluding the bit in salad leaves (bugger all I'm assuming?) but might treat myself to an apple later!

The minimum calories I can do is 2,000 and quite frankly I'm miserable on that as I'm always hungry and get moody when I feel like that. I can lose weight on 2,500 calories or less each day and I simply aim for less than 50 carbs per day. I can get into ketosis on that or less, it just takes longer the higher the carb count.

I actually don't worry at all about achieving ketosis as long as I'm losing weight, don't get me wrong it massively increases in speed in ketosis but I've come to the conclusion I want to balance my life with my training and diet.

I'm still making progress and thats the important thing to me!

Cheers - wish I could lose on 2500c! I'm guessing the low carb count is the key, with or without ketosis. I'm not in 'it' lately but really would expect to be given the diet right now.

I find if I work hard in the gym as I have been my metabolism rockets after a couple of months, if I'm not so active then its far easier for me to reduce calorie count.

I've personally found low carbs, high protein/fat is the combo that works for me although I guess its different for everyone!

I reckon given the physiology + all he reports on Atkins type diets that low carbs would work for just about anyone, just hard for many to stick to.

Metabolism wise there's also the fact that the muscle mass helps burn the calories , on top o the actual exercise.
