So after all of the emails asking what I'm using as a fat burner I decided to post it.

See here http://www.elite-n.co.uk/id31.html

They are pretty good and do take the edge off my appetite and do give me a little energy boost. I am I have noticed extremely resistant to stimulants though for some reason. Coffee and even EPH doesn't affect me very much at all so I suspect they would have a far profound effect on others than me.

I'm still in a decent calorie deficit anyway (-700 calories a day) so I'm losing weight whatever but I wanted a help with me insane appetite and they do a little for that.

So back/bicep night tonight although I felt tired before I started, probably a symptom of lots of hours in work this week and pushing harder because I've trained alone all week.

Lat pull down (close grip) 3 x 8 @ 80kg
Seated pulls (close grip) 2 x 10 @ 80kg
Shrugs 3 x 8 @ 42kg
Bicep curls 3 x 7 @ 40kg
Hammer curls - 2 x 8 @ 25kg

great thread :-)

your progress has been excellent and shows what can be done, i love the honesty about what it takes to get all the way down with the bodyfat %.

Although the ripped look is what most people want, do you prefer the size you have achieved in your last pics?

Ben

Thanks, I've done ok. I could do better by a long margin thats for sure!

The truth I've found over the past 3 months is low bodyfat is fine with me, as opposed to super low (sub 8%). I can see my abs all of the time without flexing and my arms are very vascular and veiny although not everyone likes that!

If I'm honest aesthetically I prefer to be a bit bigger than get super ripped at the cost of muscle. When I'm wearing clothes I get lots of comments from both sexes about my size and if I'm honest women seem very attracted to it. I get a lot of offers in my current condition so it's hard not to like it.

So my approach is to keep around 12% bodyfat which means when I go on holiday I've got about a month of dieting to do to get very ripped (if I like) and I get the balance of life that I eat well 6 days a week and one day I eat whatever suits me and I can have a few beers and/or whiskeys and not worry about condition.

I've been super ripped plenty in the past, in fact I spent 3 years solid at less than 8% bodyfat and quite honestly achieving super ripped and staying there just ain't healthy and causes damage to the body. People who do that also always look gaunt and tired from the lack of food and high exercise so I can go there whenever I please as long as keep around 12% but I don't plan to stay there for any period of time anymore.

Plus my main goal over the next 1 year is to gain another 2 stone of muscle (big ask I know!) and get bigger and stronger and it simply isn't possible to stay shredded and gain muscle (with the exception of steroids but not going there! And even with steroids you'll not get anywhere near the growth unless you're taking in excess calories).

I'm happy with where I am and have come to realise whilst I love training I also love living life and kicking back with a beer or eating out so I've found my balance and what works for me and I'm happy. I love the heavy weight training far more than I love the body although it's nice to make progress and see where the hardwork can get you especially with the knowledge to manipulate diet/training and the body at will and without generally too much pain!

You say in your first post that you train HIT style, are you still doing this ?

If you are doing 4sec up 4sec down with 90kg bench that is very strong!

I got my bench up to 100kg last year but not HIT style

Yeah I do HIT although I'm not a nazi about counting seconds, form has to be slow and controlled though otherwise I consider it to be cheating (only against my goal though).

I also do very short breaks of 30-45 seconds which I find makes the exercises 10 times harder than a couple of minute break between sets.

I believe in intensity over time when it comes to training, Dorian sums it up here;

http://mdtv.musculardevelopment.com/lifestyle/11-b...

Personally this makes it incredibly difficult for me and I know when I train with a partner its hard to keep up with this due to sharing equipment etc and I find sessions are radically easier.

Not really mate, just following that diet I posted up a few pages ago, and I'm drinking loads of water. I'm also now doing 1 to 1.5 hours of cardio after every weights session, plus I'm really pushing myself during my am fasted cardio sessions.

I'm allowing myself 1 cheat meal a week, cooked a huge roast today.

Tom jones was on radio 2 Thursday or Friday, he's doing the sane sort of diet as us and he's lost 35lbs in 2 months. Upon his recommendation I bought the book his dietician told him to read, it's called 'syndrome x'.
Brilliant read so far, I didn't realise how bad processed carbs such as pasta are for us!

Thats great and top marks for 1-1.5 hours exercise after each weights session! I've always wanted to do the leangains diet so many folk do but I know it wouldn't be good for me with my crazy appetite!

Thanks for the book recommendation, I'm going to check it out!

Thanks! I'm getting better but really don't consider myself strong. I think it's because my gym is full of animals! There is some epically strong folk I train with so given where they are at I consider myself average in the gym!

I'm epically strong against most ordinary folk but in the gym I'm just ok if that makes sense!

Well done mate. Looking good.

I've gone the other way myself and I think I have almost got what I wanted, I've lost two stone in 6 months now yet have maintained my main lifts and even increased a bit in some! I guess the weight would have come off quicker but I've been doing it the excersise way as opposed to drastic dieting!

I am joining a new gym just over the road, so am hoping to hopefully build a bit of muscle without having to bulk that much. Do you think that can be done?

Well done!

You don't really need to bulk to build muscle, it just can make the process drastically quicker as in my case. I wanted to try it once to gain muscle as quickly as possible and whilst it works, it's not pleasant being fat.

I may do it again just not in such an extreme way! I'm quite happy to do most things once though and experiment! I've still got a huge amount of learning to do, I'm just fortunate I've got a great coach!

So it looks like my challenge is over for the next few weeks. My neck and wrist are damaged on my right side from the crash.

I've been rather sore today and my wrist is suffering from the impact. The impact wasn't severe or anything but it appears when the car got pushed sideways the sharp movement was all it took to cause me some tissue damage.

I've been to see the doctor today and they've told me it's all the classic signs of whiplash, damage to my upper back area and damaged ligaments in my wrist.

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself last night but today is a new day and it's not so bad, just got to take a bit of time off for a few weeks (hopefully) and let my body recover. To be honest my body probably needed the time off after training with no break for over 6 months now so the recovery period can be done inside the window of my back/wrist recovering.

I'm just going to be itching to get back to it!

Please do keep updating this thread with your progress! I'm going to be back fairly soon anyway so its all good!

That's bad news to hear. I got bad whiplash due to a rear ender (bad enough for a £7K settlement!) and found physio and a decent chiropractor got me fit enough to train pretty quickly though I had to be careful with the neck - boxing was the worst thing as the impact hurt the disk/nerve around the injury site but weights and aerobics weren't much of a problem after a couple of weeks rest.

Hope it settles down quickly for you once the inflammation etc. dissipates and you can get back on it.

Thanks buddy.

It will all fix itself in the coming weeks/months I'm sure so it's just a temporary break which in all fairness I probably needed anyway.

Let me know how you get on with your training!
