About an hour ago, I started to notice an odd light pattern just to the side of my central vision.
At first, I thought it was maybe a touch of "burn in", I just headed towards bed, laptop in hand, and thought I might have glance across something bright and forgotten it, leaving that kinda ghost image you get if you look at the sun for example.

It didn't fade, but infact got worse, making a flashing rainbow type arc around the left side of whatever I was looking at.

Run to wiki for a self diagnosis, and it worked.
What I had was one of these-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scintillating_scotoma

Normally a sign for the onset of a migraine, but I've never had a migraine before, and it doesn't seem like I'm getting one now either.

It doesn't seem to be anything to be too concerned about.

Anyone else get these sort of things? I guess the coffee and cigarette I hadabout 10 mins before wouldn't have helped it . I'd hate it if that stops me from drinking coffee!

You can have a migraine without feeling any pain. If it happens again you should probably go see the doctor.

Yea, that's essentially what it is. I've found plenty of other similar descriptions, and even youtube vids trying to describe it.

It might be a one off, if not, I'll probably get myself check out, maybe get a brain scan and a few pics. It'd certainly be interesting!

Yep, sounds exactly like a Silent Migraine. I have them very rarely, none of the sickness/pain associated with normal migraine. Google it.

I am not a professional so ignore the above.

Although I often get headaches and have had violent migraine attacks in the past, i've never had visual disturbance until a few weeks ago.

I had no headache or other symptoms but started getting a wavy colour spectrum across my vision. It was surreal to experience but rather annoying as I wanted to watch the TV at the time and couldn't
It stayed there for about an hour and came and went as it moved around my vision.
Had it a second time a few weeks later too.

I took paracetamol to make sure the headache didn't follow both times.

Strangely, my partner also had exactly the same symptoms at about the same time.

The only thing I can possibly think of as a trigger was one the these plug in room fresheners. That was new at the time and since it ran out i've had no further issues.

Yea, it's a funny thing, almost when you stand up too quick, but no other pains or feelings.

What I was hoping for was that it didn't turn into a proper migraine, as I have a feeling they are pretty bad!

I've had this randomly for years now, and never knew what the heck it was.

I never used to get migranes, but the past year or so I've had three, not pleasant at all.

I've always put that visual pattern down to tiredness, as that's when it's usually happened; if I had the chance to, I would close my eyes for a short while, and try to put the palms of my hands over my eyes too to make it as dark as possible, and that would make them disappear.

Interesting to know its an actual condition though, and not just dodgy eyes on my behalf!
