How long till the £20k Evora?

We're clearly all for the Evora on this thread but at what point do people start looking at 997s, M2 comps and even the R8 V8s? Surely all of those cars are going to hold more appeal for the vast majority.
They will, and do (and they're welcome to them!). They're also arguably quite boring in comparison to a Lotus which means it can help the prices stay as high as they have been. CharlieGee said:

I have all of these cars on my shortlist, Evora is at the top.Other cars include F-Type, 981 Cayman S, Z4M Coupe and Alfa Giuila Quadrifoglio.
My entire shortlist has gone up in price by 20% in the last 6 months.
I either hop on the wagon now or wait for prices to come down.

I've recently come out of a 997 GT3 (being the PO of this...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4jJhjdNTc4&t=286s) to try something different. I really want it to be a Lotus, but there is a lot of choice with those cars and the Alpine (although I ideally want a manual).I'm super indecisive and have blamed the lack of garage opening for not making car-buying progress. I don't have that excuse any more In my heart I want it to be an Exige, but have been going down the Evora route as I figure the room behind the seats will be needed for touring. Mrs Bert is not a light traveller. So hopefully off to B&C to drive and look at both again and finally make up my mind. If I let myself get distracted with R8s or Alpines, I'll never get there! I've also considered the F word as I really quite fancy a 308, which if you squint is not that different in price!

Excellent. Enjoy the test drives. Would the Evora still be at the top if they were all the same price?
I'd say so, through my passion of the Lotus brand, what it stands for and driving experience. However, from research I can see that Lotus vastly improves the Evora with the 400, I prefer the front, the interior and gearbox.
So I may very well go for a 981 Cayman or F-Type for around £32k while I save up for the Evora I really want rather than compromising.

The S1 does have its devotees. Styling is entirely personal, but the S1 suspension is more compliant and the Recaro CS seats are far more comfortable than the Sparcos in the 400.So I may very well go for a 981 Cayman or F-Type for around £32k while I save up for the Evora I really want rather than compromising.

I'd be looking to go for an Auto due to so much town driving and I was told that the 400 auto was vastly improved over the IPS in the S1.AlexNJ89 said:

I think it's the same gearbox so any difference is presumably in software calibration, which probably means it could be flashed onto the older car? kambites said:

From what I've read they managed to reduce the shift times from 1.4s to 0.4s and it's unable to be flashed on to the S1 gearbox.Would love it if I'm wrong though.

There is no way an normal IPS shift takes 1.4 secs particularly when pushing on. I sound like a broken record but try it if you can. It's really rather good. Would love it if I'm wrong though.
I understand there were a some minor hardware tweaks to the shifting mechanism but the gearbox is effectively the same. However its not just a case of flashing on the new software. By all accounts the 400+ IPS is better, but in my opinion that's just an improvement on an already good system. (Ignore the early reviews software updates have improved the box considerably)

The 400 auto box has different acuator setup so you cant use the TCU map from a 400 on an S1
Always liked this quote from Road and Track - 911 pdk vs Evora S IPS. Gearbox not perfect but the overall package is the winner
Alas, we're here to compare self-shifters. Even with a less-than-perfect automatic, the Lotus still wins. The 911 PDK is a great two-pedal car, but the Evora IPS is simply a great car, with or without a third pedal.

I’ve been in (pax, not driven) an S1 ips on track and was surprised at how quick and aggressively it shifted. It had had the software update and felt like a dual clutch system. It really was very good. Blips on downshift FTW.
Oh man I'm going to have to try one. Now we're allowed to go test drive cars I'll keep a look out for one.I see Silverstone have a white one in but it's been for sale for a while so I'm wondering if it has been sold and just left on the website.

That white one has been discussed previously on this thread! It's been for sale for a long time, General consensus is it's overpriced.I see Silverstone have a white one in but it's been for sale for a while so I'm wondering if it has been sold and just left on the website.
Blips the downshift in sport mode are so addictive. The V6 makes such an amazing noise...

Exactly what I found. S2 Evora was more hardcore and seats also seemed to be taller too (not sure if they are). Road more aggressively and I personally thought the s1 made for the better compromise. If I wanted hardcore I would have stuck with the Exige. Gassing Station | Evora | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
