are you sure it's better than the 996?

I'd be interested in a comparison too.

Maybe a 996 - depends on the area of concern.
The Evora reminds me more of my old Cerb with quirky interior, loud exhaust, head turning looks - which I like for a sports car (maybe not a daily) and also the little hand built niggles that I’ve quickly addressed but a much more solid feel. We all know how dated a 10 year older 996 interior can feel. Not being negative it was still a nice place to be but just from another decade. The Evora steering feel and directness is such a joy and it rolls over poor roads soo well with a sense of solidness and not one rattle! Jumping straight back into the 996 even the 996.2 steering wheel feels soo large and unwieldy. I’ve had the 996 for two years so there’s much more sense of occasion in the Evora however too early to know how long it will last. But the Evora does feel at least as quick and does give more confidence on the road partly helped by the excellent ride quality – Bilstein shocks could maybe help the 911 too. It doesn’t help that I wrote the 996 off last year by spinning on a perfectly straight road – something that would have always been in the back of my mind.
I have two small girls who had ample room in the back of the 996 and being a Targa they were surrounded by glass top and rear. The polar opposite to the Evora which feels much darker and claustrophobic – but should be fine through summer with the Evoras decent air con. When the 996 had broken air con even with the roof open the green house was virtually unusable.

Thanks for that comparison. I've been contemplating changing from my 996 to an Evora but ideally I'd like to get an S or maybe even a 400 (if I also sell my 205gti) now I'm seeing them for low 40s.

I loved the supercharger whine from my old r53 so would be good to get that back. And I'd like a bit more shove than the 996 gives. The hand built aspect concerns me a bit as I seem to have got lucky with an abnormally rattle free and solid 996.1.

I quite like the look of the blue S in the PH classifieds. Seems very early for an S.

I would say an Evora is better than a 996 and a 997. Evora is much better to drive in terms of handling, steering feel, ride, balance. The S1 seats are way more comfortable too. Overall it feels and looks more special.

Probably a perspective trick but looks a fair bit lower to get down into.

When I moved from having multiple Lotuses into a Porsche during lockdown the first thing my wife said when getting in was "oh yes, this is much better, much more like a normal car". She thought she was being complimentary, it was like sticking a knife in to me grumpy

No comparison there in the looks department is there, sort of makes the 911 look frumpy.

It is way more of a task getting in and out! - but next to the 996 it looks absolutely epic and once youre in the feel is soo much more special.
Soo pleased with it now theres no more issues to fix and it wants for nothing.
I had nothing costly to sort just - door window adjustment for wind noise, heat shield rattles, corroded bumber grills paint, radio RCA interference and wiring the valved exhaust controller to switched live to stop it draining the battery. Just in the process of building up an air intake.

What's interesting about that comparison is that while the Evora overlapped 997.2 production. The 991 was it's contemporary for the majority of its life.

I think it's a compliment to it that it's compared to older cars. We all know that older cars give a better, more involved driving experience.

I'm developing a big want for another Evora reading this thread.

I sold mine over 2 years ago and bought an Elise but now I really miss the Evora so in the spring I'm selling the Elise and going on the hunt for an Evora S.

Recently I had a passenger ride in a friends Emira and whilst it was brilliant I came away thinking that I actually preferred the interior of an Evora. I really don't like a digital dash.

..so if anyone is looking for an early lightweight S2 111S with low miles feel free to PM me.

I’m really surprised to read this. Whilst I decided to cancel my Emira order I must say the interior felt a massive step up against all variants of previous generation Loti, both in quality and in materials. Appreciate the digital displays aren’t for everyone although the AIM dash upgrades popularity on earlier cars suggests many favour it over analogue.

Probably badly conveyed by me - the Emira interior is a very polished place to be, almost up there with a Porsche. But I just prefer the interior of the Evora, feels more special somehow old school sports car / GT I guess but clearly not as well put together as an Emira. And I really don't like the binnacle on the Emira, not just because it's digital, it looks kind of 'lost' somehow and insignificant but they are probably managing the eventual transition to an EV in its design.

I also love the 'wrap around' theme in the early Evoras, again just feels special to me somehow. That said I do really like the later Evoar interior too - completely different but just looks a bit more 'hardcore' that the Emira. Ultimately I'm just a old fashioned sucker for an analogue dash! (which is why I also have an Elan Plus 2)

Love the Emira though, a great car but I must confess I didn't come away feeling a massive want.

Haha, yeah, although I'm quoting the wife there the reason I agreed about the old man comment was quite literally because of my old man. The plan for the change was to take him on a few holidays whilst I still could and there's no way he'd have got on with the Elise, bones degrade after 8 decades.

As it happens, I'm on my 2nd Pork and it impressed me more than I expected I'd have to say. I wouldn't have found out at all if the Evora had been available as a convertible as that was also a key requirement.

Interesting to note the comparative in terms of how the age difference felt above. The difference between my S1 Sport 160 and the newer Porsche was 13 years. So utterly different it felt more like 33. Not that I'm saying I prefer that btw, if the opportunity comes around I'm highly likely to get another Lotus again.

Looking back on this thread, it's crazy to see that the Evora is still (or back to) the prices they were in 2015. 9 years and no depreciation, although inflation should be taken into account.

I'm back looking for a 400 again after my interest was briefly elsewhere...and perusing the classifieds makes me realise that too many people ticked the red interior option and not enough ticked the tan interior option.

Yup, a car almost identical to the one I bought in 2018 has just sold for about £4k more than I paid back then!

‘Twas ever thus. After the initial new car depreciation, they’ve never really dropped in value. I bought a very low mileage 2009 LE at 4 years old for £30k and sold it 2 years later on more miles for £30k. At 15 years old that same car would still retail for £30k. Bonkers.
