Cheers, I could probably stretch to £35k but not sure if the S is really worth that much compared to the NA.

I don't think so but that depends how much 5k means to you

Cheers, I haven't actually driven an evora yet so just basing my thoughts on the stats of both cars. There doesn't seem to be too much in it

Have you had a chance to test drive both?

I have. And whilst I felt a SC was vital on the Elise/Exige (it was light and day quicker than an NA car), I didn't feel the S added much to the Evora to be perfectly honest. Nice to have but certainly not vital.

I think it depends on what most of your driving is in terms of NA vs S.

Tight twisties, I never ever feel I need more power - the cornering speeds are scary enough without the speed the extra power would give you.

Faster, sweeping A roads when overtaking - yes, the extra power would be handy. The lower you sit, the poorer real world forward visibility you have, the more welcome the extra overtaking power (if you can put it down safely).

I used to ride a motorbike though, so the NA will always feel a bit lacking in the second scenario to me.

Ultimately does not bother me too much - the handling of the Evora is the USP from my perspective.

I would largely agree with that but the supercharged Evora felt equally slow! Neither car is quick enough straight line for that fast A road squirty acceleration!

Ha ha to the last comment. The cars are not punchy type quick because the gearing is relatively long legged (for some reason...probably economy/emissions), but they are far from slow in a straight line. However, come to some twisties and there is not much that will stay with them, especially on poorer surfaces, and little that is as much fun all of the time.

I do believe that for the N/A car it is relatively inexpensive to de-cat the headers and fit a better breathing intake which makes a significant difference and for sensible money is the way to go.

Agreed on all fronts. Also easy to overlook how quick in the bends they are as they carry their speed very well. Surprising amounts of bodyroll but the cars grip is wonderful. The ride of the car is immense but it can mask the speed you are carrying and give the impression its not as fast as it is. Kind of the opposite of an Elise/Exige!

INterestng comments on the relative performance. I have an S and it's definitely quicker than the n/a. I had an R8 v8 to play with last week. Generally, it wasn't noticeably quicker than the S and was slower in the corners (superb engine note though). I thought the R8 would feel quicker, on paper it's marginally faster.

My previous n/a was far from boring, but for fast roads and overtaking the S is in my opinion preferable.

I test drove the n/a & S version within a couple of hours. Wrote article on PH somewhere.

At slow speeds th n/a just felt like driving a modern hatchback but with more feedback, it's quiet & refined (perhaps too much) but lacking something compared to it's looks. I didnt really push it, but this is were the cars comes more 'alive'.

The 'S' sounds better from when you turn the key, & seems to have more urge to go faster at all speeds. It just seemed to have the power/engine to back up it's looks. It is approx 60kg heavier though due supercharger etc, & running costs quite a lot higher with servicing bills, tax & m.p.g.

0-60 times are very similar, you just have to work harder in the n/a, but some prefer that trait anyway.

Dont think anyone would be disappointed with either, provided you go in with eyes open.

P.S - If you buy through a Lotus Dealer, make sure you know what is covered by their Warranty (as for some, they may have a lot of exclusions, which they may not tell you about), get it in writing (as they may not tell you) & if you are getting a 6 month or 12 month Warranty. Despite the level of money you may spend, & other makes of car Dealers giving a 12 month Warranty for the same price, only a 6 month Lotus Warranty is Standard. Also check everything on the car is as described.

Hope you enjoy whatever car you chose.

Blueg33 - I see your old one is back up for sale on Autotrader. Looks good value - how much would it be to fix the airbag/dash I wonder?

I think I was quoted £500 by Silverstone. It’s a dash out job. It was on my to do list when my current car came up so I discounted the price accordingly.

Had mine repaired for £300 which I think was a bargain. They actually removed all of the interior for that price and while the dash was out I asked them to sort the airbag cover.

Interesting - that’s a lot cheaper than I thought and in that case it’s surprising how many still have them popped open. Hard to imagine spending £30k on a car and the first thing your friends see is the interior appearing to be in pieces.

Forgive then selective quote but I think the extra midrange stomp of the S does add something in those tight twisties.

It’s a nice delivery / torque curve but it depends on how you like to drive. If you’re wringing it’s neck and always up at 6k or more then it’s just a bit quicker. If youre using a broader rev range and doing less gear changes (which is how I like to drive twisties - maybe I’m just old) it’s quite a bit more exciting. Really is more the midrange grunt than the power that I notice.

Both cracking cars.

yep that's my old Evora,.

Seems like the current owner has looked after it well, I just found out from Matt at Lotus Silverstone he drove all the way from the north east to Silverstone for a service because they done all the maintenance for me.
