I'm currently looking for an Evora S and have been informed that the the 4, 5, 6 gears in pre-mid 2012 cars are more prone to failure (various posts on Lotus Talk, SELOC and TLF confirm this) which requires a gear box rebuild or replacement.

Has anyone had the misfortune of having to repair or replace a gear box or have an estimate of the cost to sort the issue? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth paying an extra £3 - £4k for a mid 2012 on-wards car to mitigate the risk however small it may be.

Thanks!

If the difference between an early S and a MY12 is done to £3-4k then I'd take the MY12 regardless...

Yes I have. The thread on Seloc is mine. The cost of a new box is c.£7k plus fitting.

Although it has to be said that this failure is very rare.

Wow, that's steep! Was rebuilding the gearbox not an option?

Presumably rebuilding the box with the later spec gears would have been cheaper.

Cheaper than £7k yes.

I went for the new gearbox option as got a very good deal on a new gearbox and new clutch at the same time
