Evora - first 200 models

...order me a coffee.
Anyway, back on track, for those concerned about whether Lotus are having problems selling their cars:
"While most of the world’s automakers are recording significant losses, massively cutting staff, closing plants, and possibly facing bankruptcy, Lotus has defied the trend.
Announced in an official press release, Lotus plans to increase production by 50% for 2009-2010 after strong initial reception for the Evora, particularly from the United States as demand for the Evora from U.S. dealers is “significantly beyond initial expectations”. Lotus has also recruited a considerable amount of new production and engineering staff to assist with fulfilling this demand.
In addition to its position as a sports car manufacturer, Lotus is also recognized as a leading automotive engineering consultancy. Lotus Engineering is one of the key pioneers in electric and alternative fuel vehicle research and development, and as a result, Lotus Engineering plans a global expansion and expects to increase its staff by 10% this year."
From the Lotus press office on the 20th May.

I gave up reading this thread as everyone was being so negative about the Evora before they had even driven it. Lots of comments about how much better the Nissan and Cayman were. I guess the latest issue of Evo has quietened everyone down a little.
If you are into Lotus and have not read Evo then get a copy. I can't remember a better write up of a new Lotus compared with its opposition since the original Esprit Turbo v's the 308 and 911. I don't include the Elise as it has no opisition. Well done Lotus, seems like they have produced a great car in a very tough area of the market.

I drove Europa for the first time in 6 weeks and picked up Evo on the drive. The 5 min drive to the shops took 1 hour, had to make sure the battery was properly charged up...there are some very good roads around here. I even managed to get the brakes to fade, not bad going when you are running Mintex pads all around.
Unfortunately I wont be able to afford a new Evora so will have to wait for one second hand, trouble is I think a lot of people will be doing this. Residuals on that car are going to be very strong I think.

Good Effort exactly what a 5 min drive should be!, I have not even managed to fade my pagid pads on the track - I must be a wimp!
Agree with you on the Residuals, I am on the second hand wait too ....

Particularly as it looks as though they will be very rare in the UK: the origin of this thread was that they haven't even sold 200 here, and now it looks like production will be geared to export.Makes me want one even more.

I had a good look over one on Sunday at the factory - it is a very nice car, worlds part from an Elise
if its as per the reviews so far: the feel of an Elise, just bigger and grown up im sure it will do well, regardles of the price ...which is about spot on a Cayman in a mid spec according to the press too ....£60K Caymans are order of the day if you actually want ally wheels and a stereo LOL

I read the EVO review of the Evora at the weekend and what interested me was that all my criticisms of the Cayman S (which EVO have never mentioned), suddenly came out when they compared it with an Evora! I guess driving an Elise every day (as I do) makes one look at cars slightly differently
What's most impressive to me is that, if current reports are to be believed, the Evora drives better than a Cayman S despite having a much taller engine situated much higher and further back in the chassis. Lotus did the same thing with the Elise, and it really demonstrates their talent at ride and handling. The Cayman starts off with a huge advantage in ride and handling having a flat six located virtually on the floor much centre to the geometric centre of the car.

yeah, other than the Clarkson review, every other one Ive read has been hugely positive, saying the Evora is now the ride and handling benchmark for road going sportscars ...cant get much better than that I guess.
Sure it could do with another 100bhp ...no doubt it will eventually get it, but for now at least theres a Lotus alternative for a daily driver sportscar

I wonder if the Lotus team read this over a cup of tea and a biscuit during there breaks to have a chuckle.
The way that their efforts are endlessly and unrealistically criticised by forum members, I would guess they avoid reading what is said here if they can.Gassing Station | Evora | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
