Having owned 5 Elise variants I switched to a Porsche Cayman S :

1. Because I needed our sports car for longer journeys/more room comfortable etc

2. The release price of the Evora

I'm seriously thinking about selling on both our Cayman and my S1 Project that never really started, it won’t be until next year when there are more 2nd hand Evora's available but the power worry’s me slightly, want either a Yellow, Orange or Green don’t like most colour’s that people seem to have brought so far

Just got to get a 2nd test drive to make my mind up, I test drove an Evora that hadn't done enough miles

Boggy, what were your impressions of the drive - I assume good if you're considering one, but as you've had a raft of the Lotus product over the years it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts?

I love the look of the Evora and all the road tests are positive, but...........£50K! eek

I took a look at one nice looking car, but I think I will wait for the next upgrade ie more power and sweeter exhaust tone.

i'm a huge lotus fan having owned an s2 elise and exige.

i would go and seriously consider an evora s ahead of my current shortlist of a gt3 or r8.

the quicker they release the supercharged evora with a sports exhaust the more we'll see people buy this car.

even at 65k i'd save c30k and imo buy a better looking, better handling more exclusive driver's car than the porsche or audi.

come on lotus, after your first wave of diehards no one else is interested in buying this car as it is. do us all a favour and release the supercharged version in the spring. any later and i'll have spent my money for the next 3 years elsewhere.

I have driven the Evora twice and its a decent car but not worth the cash, it is simply too expensive. I agree with the comments above, get a decent engine in the thing and have a look at the pricing, remember it will go up by at least 2.5% in January and that is assuming that VAT goes back to 17.5 whch is by no means certain.

By comparison the Cayman, I'd stick with the Cayman. The Evora and Cayman are well matched and day to day there is not going to be much in it. But year old Cayman is simply much better value than a new Evora and who knows how much they will cost when they hit the used market.

I have driven the Evora every day for the last 3 weeks, I am so pleased I didn't get a Cayman smile I had a couple of drives in a Cayman as well, it just felt a bit dull (image wise, not performance, although the Lotus without doubt handles better).

Drove the Evora today.

What a great car.


Made the Cayman feel a lot more stodgy, especially in the brakes and body roll.
I want one really badly, I still have issues with the price, mostly in that I can't afford one right now and maybe a little with the storage space but in every other way this was a fantastic car to drive.

What's it like to own one?

Once you drive one for a bit, you start to realise what its all about.

The ones who don't get it, usually haven't driven it and bang on about how they will get one when the SC version comes out. When the SC version comes out they will wait for the striped out version an when that comes out they will wait for an Esprit ....etc etc..... you know you want one, go on.

Oh I do, there's the significant problem of about 16k to worry about though.

I couldn't help thinking on my way home in a more powerful car, what the Evora doesn't really need is more power. it would be missing the point of the whole car I thought.

Having driven one for the last 4 months in all sorts of enviroments, you very quickly understand how user friendly the car is in an every day situation and yet every bit of a Lotus at the same time.

We recently ran a driving event and gave our customers the chance to experience the Evora along side the Porsche Cayman S. Customers were very impressed in how the car compared not only to the Porsche, but cars of nearly 4 times its price. So when people talk about the price, it is hard to see why the value cant be seen, especially when you can be spending late 40's on an Exige.

You just need to have an lengthy drive in the car on some challenging roads and really get to appreciate why the car has had the fantastic press, beating some class leading cars.

It's still slow though

Resale will be crap when the Evora S comes out,

I would wait for the more powerful car, Coming from a Cayman you will miss the mid range torque.

My biggest problem is that the car looks overpriced. IMO a used vehicle will be under £40k early next year. The fact that the demo vehicles are not already pre sold and that a large dealer has not even sold one vehicle yet in my eyes it's an indication that the market thinks the car is overpriced.

With all the launch edition cars sold and a 5 month wait for customer spec cars, I think the market has decided the Evora represents good value when compared to the competition. When it is beating cars several times more expensive (911 GT3, Noble etc) in all the COTY assesments and pipping the GTR in Evo's eyes for value for money, despite a similar price for a lot more car (technology wise) I think Lotus have pitched it just right.

I'd like to thank all the Evora buyers personally - it needs to do well as I am waiting for the new Esprit. Lotus needs the money!

How, or where, is it slow? On Top Trumps cards? Traffic light GP's? Where is the car going to be slow?

I went to the Elise Garden party earlier in the year, a charity event which was using the test track for a track day. There were all manner of Loti there, including no end of modified Elise/Exiges running forced induction etc, plus a 340R or two and a 2-11.

I went for 3 laps with a factory test driver in a boggo 111R, and you know what? We were killing every single car stone dead. We were *howling* past everything, i couldn't believe it!

They had two 111Rs giving passenger rides like that all day long and they were stunning. I wonder how many of those Exige or Elise SC or Turbo owners considered the 111R too slow?

the market has repeatedly proven this point of view doesn't stop people wanting a car with more power.

i'm sure i could buy a mid level 3 series bmw and not drive it anywhere near its capabilities - but i won't because i know that i want to buy a car knowing what it can do when pushed to its limits regardless of the fact that 90% of the time i'll be driving it nowhere near its limit.

of course truth be told i doubt i have ever had the skill or talent to be able to drive any of the sports cars i've owned anywhere near their limit but even so 0-60 in 5 seconds and no idea what it gets to 100 in a standard evora just isn't enough for me.

i know it'll handle, i know the feel will be amazing and if i knew that lotus weren't going to release an s version then maybe i'd buy one. but we all know what lotus are like and its only a matter of time before the s is out never mind the numerous special editions that they're already dreamed up.

Fair enough, but i wish people would remember that if a car is slow, it probably ain't the machinery's fault.

111R came out just before I bought my 111S. Couldn't justify £4K for a power delivery I didn't like or the drop in fuel economy - even now I can't find a good enough reason for getting an Elise SC. Power isn't everything.

The S is meant to be out in about two years time. I'll lay good money that some people will wait, then complain that the S version costs too much.
