I am lucky enough to have been able to buy a launch model. The Exige S1 218 bhp had to go but I still have a S1 111S. It is in a different world to any Lotus I have driven , I feel this is the car for me . An Executive express as against the raw Lotus , however it is horses for courses and I drove the 111S after a long stint in the Evora and was not disappointed in the Elise ! The Evora is so different and anyone who has a slight interest should test drive for a serious amount of miles. Performace is comparable with the Exige but a lazy delivery to acheive the same result, brakes are very sensitive please remember to caress the pedal as you would your girlfriend's ..... ! It's luxy ( the car not the girl ! ) " planted " as I drove to Holland in the most appalling wet conditions and has style and panache.
So far so good - delighted with my purchase
I could go on but it is a try for yourself and find out if it is for you. It is not a lot more than and Exige and for me easily worth the extra.

I own a launch spec car and wish I had never set eyes on it . Its been back and forth to the dealer with problem after problem , I have even asked my dealer to buy it back and was offered £5K less than I paid for it now I have a piece of plastic that is only a couple of months old and devaluing at a fare rate of knots. The car has only done 900 miles and most of that is to and fro to the dealer. I have called the customer care three times and got the security guy , Lotus as far as I am concerned are trash

what sort of problems are you having? ...not enough to reject it completely?

Wow that's a pretty harsh assessment of the car. Shame as I think they look great, doesn't bode well for a few years time when i can afford one.

yeah, its usually similar on lots of new models though...and miraculously they get better as they get older...Im waiting for a nice used one, with all the problems sorted too smile

I'll be honest, this isn't the only story I've heard either looks like this isn’t going that well

There are the Issue's with performance not quick enough, it's too expensive. I'm sure Lotus will sort out the niggles thou

well I guess a lot of potential owners cant get credit in the current climate ...just how many £60K 2 seaters are selling in big numbers?

maybe if Lotus Finance do a 15% deposit and interest free deal over 60 months, im sure more will be tempted smile

Its a shame isn't it, they seem to have slipped quickly under the radar, 'the nearly car' bit too slow, bit too expensive, styling nearly so right etc. I think the 911 is the biggest issue it faces, i just think it needs to be pitted at a slightly lower level, although they are not head on price wise they are too close. And yes there is the 'i want to be different' vote or the 'i don't want a fast beetle' clan but they don't really hold water if you are a petrol head.

It's not been the instant seller the Elise was, but the price point and current economic climate were always going to be against that. Even at the most optimistic sales target we weren't going to see many on the roads, nor a huge amount of noise from owners.

That said, there do seem to be a regular stream of sightings, regularly positive, and some very content owners. Lotus haven't embarrassed themselves and the platform is well regarded. The fact that you're comparing it to a 911 when it's priced like a Cayman says it all.

I suspect we'll see the Evora grow to be seen as a bit of a gem for those in the know.

Its got quite a decent following on the other forums, but like any car, 95% of owners won't be into posting on a car forum so its hard to judge.

It was never intended to be as high a seller as the 911/Cayman/Elise so its bound to be rarer. Tough market though, and I think it needs to be driven to be appreciated. Also, I think the buyer needs to appreciated the Lotus quirks, if you are after a 911 I doubt its the car for you IMO.

if they added no more than 10% to the price of the launch addition and added a supercharger i reckon they'll take more orders in a month than all the cars sold to date.

i think we'll see some interesting finance offers from lotus by the end of summer.

What is interesting is that price wise, the 2nd hand cars havent fallen off the edge of a cliff depreciation wise. £45k is the cheapest I could find.

There are a LOT of people who've said "I'll get one second hand" - plenty of demand there and the low depreciation will do Lotus some good.

Most of those people think they'll get a year old one for £30k though.

Which I have to say was my first thought.

That the market *isnt* doing that suggests to me that this is a good thing. The car is holding its value whether by rarity or by merited ability or a combination of both.
