Rob, if you like the Elise, I'm pretty sure you'd like the Evora.
I'm sure I would I more than like the Elise - I absolutely adore it. It's the controls that are the highlight for me; other cars use controls as a barrier to driving a car, something you need to adapt to, whereas the Elise has instinctive controls, and actually goes beyond that to make the controls a joy to use. The ride is the other stand-out feature. My 111S can make indecently rapid progress down a bumpy road, with its tyres semmingly glued to the road, and yet it seems to perform a jiggly glide over the road like a magic carpet. It really is an incredible car. Every single time I drive it I am stunned by its abilities, and I've driven a lot of very capable cars over the years.
The only things preventing my touring spec Elise from being the perfect everyday car (not that it's trying to be of course) are the noise on the motorway, bad ergonomics (pedals are too close to the driver, and a few other niggles) and perhaps the uninspiring four cylinder engine (although that's the last thing I'm thinking about whilst tackling a B road - acceleration is not really what the Lotus Elise is all about). The Evora of course solves each of these issues, so I have a feeling I would fall head over heels with one when I drive it. I'm never selling my Elise - it's that good - so I get the feeling when I can finally afford an Evora I'll probably keep that forever as well

Good to hear! I'll probably do a write up on my one so far at some point
The only thing is that I may never have £50k to spend on a car. That's a sizeable chunk off my mortgage (and on towards a buy to let or bigger primary home), or two full seasons of racing. No matter how much I love road cars, those two things mean more to me.RobM77 said:

if you're a teacher and you wants a sports car its got to be a lotus.
I've never met a teacher who can afford to buy and run a Lotus! Most Elise owners that I know are 25-35 year olds working in IT Your point remains true though - possibly some people don't want an image associated with geeks. The image of Porsches and BWMs is arguably worse though.Edited by RobM77 on Monday 12th July 10:15

When I left Uni in 1999 Secondary School teachers started on £15k-£17k, which slowly rose to £30k for a head teacher. Oh, and there's also the small matter of the amount of work involved. I currently wake up at 8:30am and start work at 10am, finishing about 6pm to 6:30pm, and then I have the whole evening free. I have such an easy life it's unreal My teacher friends get up at some shocking hour of the morning each day, get into school about 8am, and then spend the evenings on marking, paperwork and lesson planning - all for about £25 to £30k a year.
There was that head teacher in the paper last week on over £200k wasn't there.. maybe things have changed? I'll do my PGCE if they have!

Goodo - give me a call at work 01635 234050 ask for David and mention Lotus!
Great - I'll give you a call tomorrow. Maybe I could pop over once the rush hour's died down one evening? I've got a 2003 Elise S2 111S and a 2007 Z4 Coupé, so if you're interested in a passenger ride in either of those, just let me know which one to bring - rain or shine's fine for either.DJC said:
