The Official 2011/12 Premier League Predictathon Thread
Discussion
Very early I know but some want it done soon(ish) so here it is.
Right, these are the...
Rules
1. As before, the scoring will be 1 point for correct prediction with an additional 3 for a correct scoreline.
2. If you forget to submit your predictions you will be judged to have actually forecast a 0-0 result for every game. This is how the BBC run their competition and will save on the compiler (me) having to hastily look ahead and then keep track of what European or FA Cup games are available for those who forget to forecast.
3. If you do not forecast for 4 weekends (or Matchdays) in a row without posting a prior notification of your intention not to forecast (ie you are going on holiday etc), you will be removed from the league with no re-admittance this season. Likewise, if you register to play and then don't play in the very first week without prior notice you'll be removed. Sorry, but you've got to show willing.
4. All predictions to be submitted by Friday at 12 midnight - Mid-week forecasts before the actual kick-off that night...after that 0-0 will be assumed. No exceptions this season as I have a life and don't want to be updating the forecasts on my spreadsheet on Saturday mornings. In return I will attempt to post each Saturdays 'points earned' that evening and a league table by either Sunday evening or (if there is a Monday night game) by late Monday evening. Everyone will be allowed 1 chance to post later than Friday at 12 midnight but they must still post before the 3pm kick-off on Saturday. Henceforth this is to be called 'the Gizmo pass'.
5. If you are going away please tell me either by personal e-mail or posting on this thread and I will send you the fixtures you will miss for you to forecast in advance. E-Mail your forecasts back to me and I will publish them on this thread on the appropriate day. If you don't do this you'll be awarded a 0-0 forecast for each game you miss.
6. Comedy forecasts (ie 10-0 and other obvious nonsense) isn't allowed and you'll be given 0-0's for all of that Matchdays forecasts if you do it. By all means post funny comments above the actual bit I'll be cut 'n' pasting but take the forecasts seriously - I put a lot of work into this so silly forecasts just make me wonder why I bother.
7. Once posted you cannot amend your forecast.
8. You are responsible for checking that I have got your points earned that week correct and letting me know if something is amiss.
9. I'm an Accountant - so the above scenario is impossible.
10. The Jiffle King, Mickk or Hornetrider will check mine...of that you can be damned sure
11. In the event of 2 or more players having the same points totals the league table positions will be determined/sorted first by the amount of correct results predicted and second by the amount of correct scorelines predicted. After that it's in alphabetical order (excluding the final day which will be decided upon at a later date)
12. The rules can be amended/added to by a simple consensus of more than half the people playing all agreeing to the change - this isn't MY thread it belongs to EVERYONE playing.
13. Unfortunately, entry is now closed as we have registered 34 players already and its only early July.
14. In order to be fair and unbiased these rules will have to be adhered to this season as once you allow one person to bend them others begin to think there's favouritism being shown to friends etc.
Just like the real EPL, the Predictathon Table has had the same 3 names in the top 4 for the past 2 years - so you know what your goal is, to break this up...is there another 'Man City' out there?
There will be a seperate FA Cup Predictathon taking place during the season within this thread on the appropriate weekends for participants of this thread. So if you don't win the league you could win the cup.
Please edit and then re-post my post below to add your name so that I can begin adjusting my Spreadsheet Formulas in preparation.
ETA:
Everybody Registering To Play
Keep an eye on this thread at least a week before the season kicks off - which is actually Saturday the 13th August 2011 as I'll be publishing the fixtures before then and you can get stuck in. Please use the published list I produce each week for your forecasts as it makes it easier for me to cut & paste your forecasts straight into my spreadsheet. To be honest nearly all do as it saves you re-typing it all out.
