I didn’t renew this year after about 15 years including relegation etc.

We seem to have had trouble getting the players even working hard for most of this last 15 years except for a brief spell under Smith. I guess when they don’t believe in the plan or the management that’s what happens.

It looks very likely that SG and Mings have fallen out, I think making SJM captain was just a roll of the dice in the hope it fired him up even if playing out of position, it hasn’t. That all just looked a bit desperate to me.

I had a season ticket during the period when O'Neill was manager, home or away I always thought that they could get a win against any team and indeed they often did, those were good times.

The way he left the club was a disgrace and to be fair he's never done as well as he did with The Villa with any club since, acensoredehole

I just can't see us winning a game again frankly. The players look like they have never met, Coutinho is a shadow of his former self, Mings seems to be being frozen out, and making McGinn captain was a bonkers decision.
Our creative players (Buendia, Bailey) seem to be getting very limited game time.

Things do not seem to be getting better - there is no cohesion to the play, no game plan and seemingly no idea how to perform in-game management. West Ham knew exactly how to deal with us.

His record is very comparable to Smith's before he was sacked but he has a much better squad.

SG's days are numbered. The sooner he goes the better - but we do need a proven experienced top manager this time.

Also something bizarre going on with all the sackings at the club yesterday.

If (although it's hard to not think when) we lose to Man City and Arsenal, Gerrard will have the highest loss percentage of any Villa manager in history. The club can't tolerate that after sacking Smith for not seeing the continous improvement they desire, sadly he might get longer than he deserves since he was the man Purslow wanted.

If rumours are to be believed he seems to have created a lot of discontent in the squad. McGinn being undroppable and made captain is a bizarre decision. Players like Luiz and Buendia are given limited game time despite outperforming the likes of McGinn, Ramsey and Coutinho.

Nakamaba liked a fan tweet titled "justice for Sanson" https://twitter.com/VillaWatch1/status/15646978214... not a good sign.

Hopefully the club don't sanction any exits before the transfer window closes based on Gerrard's judgement.

Yep, things have gone badly wrong and the board need to act. They got rid of Smith who was arguably doing a better job (with what he had available to him) and was stitched up in his last season with losing Grealish and the consequent joke of a pre-season plus having to play Tuanzebe (loan condition) and try to fit in Ings - completely ballsing up the system that we had. SG does not have those excuses.

On that basis they have to act - SG has shown nothing that convinces me he will grow as a manager with us and the divisions in the squad seem to be getting deeper.

The atmosphere has turned quite toxic at Villa and the only logical answer is for SG to move on, it just seems to have gone too far for him to turn it around. I'd love to see Potter in charge but I'm not sure he'd take it, if not him then Poch. Beyond them I haven't got a clue who would be suitable

I have never ever wanted us to lose (I am a fan of over 40 years) but if a defeat tonight forces a change, then bring it on. There is a good squad there, some very decent players but no unity, no plan (A,B,C or otherwise) no philosophy if you will, identity is probably a better word.

I still think selling Matt Targett as a swap for Digne was a mistake and as for killing Buendia’s confidence with playing Coutinhno, well…

At the time that Matt Targett left I had absolutely no respect for him as I thought he just didn't want to stay and fight for his place, but now it's obvious something was going on behind the scenes.

As for Coutinho, he is demonstrating why Barca were happy to let him go, there is still a decent player in there but I think Emi is better and he is being sidelined in favour of SGs mate.

I am not looking forward to this evening. Fingers crossed it is not too much of a humiliation.

Hopefully NSWE see sense soon.

Dougie's wonder corners have probably saved SG his job for a while!

Plenty of teams will get spanked by this Arsenal team this season, losing to them by the narrowest of margins despite being battered gives some positives.

Rather we lost like that than got spanked 6-0 by Citeh as Forest have done tonight. Oh great, look who we've got next!!

Next Monday then, I reckon, NSWE don’t like to mess about, shame it’s after the window closes.

Well, that was utterly shambolic. Bye Steve.

Looking for positives, there was a better work rate / effort.

But it looks utter chaos. Can’t retain the ball. Shambolic defense (full backs pushed on, lose the ball, very exposed). Really looks like there isn’t a plan, or not one that the players understand or are capable of performing.

Yeah I think either would be a good choice, but don't see them happening right now. The only other manager I've seen mentioned by a few other fans online is Brendan Rogers, but obviously he's not even available right now anyway.

There is a twitter account (I know...) claiming that Villa had an initial meeting with Poch a couple of days ago - wouldn't put too much stock into it of course but the guy did apparently get a couple of things right recently before they were announced elsewhere. So I'll cling on to a glimmer or hope that the board are already seeking a replacement.

Villa took a chance on SG because of the title
he won in Scotland, but the reality of that win was beating a team that imploded with players that had downed tools and playing in front of empty stadiums.
But the biggest problem was Beale was the tactical brains and SG was the front.
He thought Villa was a stepping stone to Liverpool but that dream is over now.

Away at Forest tonight, they are rooted to the bottom of the table, have lost six of their eight games this season and are on -15 goals.

They should in theory be there for the taking, no disrespect to Forest fans, it's a tough division for any newly promoted side, as we well know.

However I just have this feeling that we will get nothing from the game. If SG cannot pick and motivate a team to win this game then he will never be the right man for us, he has to go.

Trivia: the last time that Forest beat Villa in the Premier League was in 1994. Referee: Keith Cooper, Steve's dad. It's a sign I tell thee.....

Or win tonight and Stevie G will go above Klopp’s Liverpool in the League. At which point, SG can finally take over at Anfield. wink

Of course, then he will indeed be a tactical genius!

He needs to start putting Buendia in ahead of Coutinho.

The latter has 1 goal and 0 assists from his last 19 Premier League appearances. How he's an automatic pick is beyond ,me

(OK, he's SG's mate)

They're welcome to him and he can take his mate Christian Purslow with him.

A dire 1-1 draw against the worst team in the division, having to come from behind thanks to a goal from a 37yo defender at the end of his career.

There is just no invention in this Gerrard team. He does not know what to do to change a game. I'm now firmly #GerrardOut.

Our next game is against Chelsea. We won't get anything and I actually hope they thump us to bring about his sacking sooner.

David O'Dreary was sacked with us in 16th place, with an average of 1.1 points per game.

Slippy Steve has us in the same position but only 1 point per game. How is this an improvement on Dean Smith?

Deadly Doug (passed away 4yrs ago today, gawd bless him) would have sacked this chancer long ago.

As for 'set piece specialist' guy, every single one of our set pieces was abysmal. He's stealing a living!

SG is the latest is a long line of great players > useless managers. He did the "get lucky" trick at Ibrox, and Villa bought it. You're right to want shot of him. Hope you can ditch him and get a bounce.

Yes it was dreadful. Every match seems to follow the same depressing pattern. It’s clearly not working, but Gerard keeps persisting. Isn’t that the definition of madness, to keep repeating the same mistakes? Like Watkins always getting himself caught off-side. All of the outfield players are badly underperforming.

As for Neil off The Young Ones being our set-piece coach, is he also responsible for defending set pieces, or was it some other idiot who thought it would be good tactics to back away from the attacking players when the free-kick came in and give their short striker an uncontested header to score with?
